No, but the term "Blighty" as far as I'm aware refers to Britain in general or at least England*. I have worked "down in the smoke" though & have relatives there. :)

*I could well be wrong, though. Local conventions certainly differ ...

Re: Understanding Linux Mint

if you keep using Windows7 while it is no longer supported you expose yourself to security risks... Very true, but this is where Virtualbox comes to the rescue .. easy to disable internet connectivity. That way it should be safe to keep using after EOS. As for installation media, these are availabl...

Re: Goodbye Windows 7! Hello Mint Cinnamon!

A warm albeit belated welcome from me too. I agree that this is amongst the best Forums and that Linux Mint is an excellent Distro as well as being the one I cut my Linux teeth on. I was so happy that I found something good which led me to giving Windows the heave-ho.

Cheers! :)

Dogpile I'd just about forgotten about that! I used it for years until I changed to DuckDuckGo. For some reason, I thought Dogpile closed down The .co.uk site (and probably other regional variants) did indeed close down some years ago. However, the reason I switched was that search results were get...

Re: My elderly Acer Aspire One

Sadly the trackpad decided to go missing Perhaps the little ribbon isn't seated properly - this and the bigger one for the keyboard are a bit of a PITA to fit .. I should know .. It could be that support was dropped with the later kernels. That was the case with the Toshiba NB305; had to sti...

Re: Help is on the way maybe!

For useful commands, I simply redirect the manpage to a text file. Same for help pages. That way, they can be read with whatever application you choose e.g. Kate in my case, which has an excellent navigation sidebar. No need for an internet connection either. :) man program > /path/to/desired/direct...

Re: Seeking more capable system dialogs.

Kubuntu doesn't receive the latest Plasma5 updates as Neon User Edition but is more like Neon User Edition LTS as they depend on the LTS version of Plasma5 I've read in several places that installing Kubuntu & then adding the Neon repos is the way round this. Might still have a Kubuntu VM around, w...

Re: VirtualBox 6 isn't starting

What happens if you create a new virtual machine? If that starts up, e.g. with the Win10 ISO attached, you could try attaching the Win10 virtual hard disk to this & see what happens ... assuming you haven't already tried this of course. The RAM allocation shouldn't be an issue; 4GB is plenty for a W...

Re: Computer monitor for Linux

Unless I'm mistaken, hot keys won't work on an external monitor. You'll need to use the settings on the monitor itself to do that, unless you wish to use something like Redshift to do that, which I believe is pre-installed on later versions of Linux Mint. This program won't affect the backlight sett...

As far as I'm concerned, anything I post here may be freely read, linked to, copied/quoted in part or in full etc. (or deleted, for that matter ) otherwise it sort of defeats the object of participating on this (or any) Forum. I wouldn't consider it as giving up any rights; in fact, I regard i...

Re: Seeking more capable system dialogs.

I think that's not a distro I would class it as one, but this is what they have to say about it: Is it a distro? 🔗 Not quite, it's a package archive with the latest KDE software on top of a stable base. While we have installable images, unlike full Linux distributions we're only interested in KDE s...

Welcome to the Forum! :D When I first started the transition, I kept a VM around in order to boot into Windows if necessary for those programs, especially the embroidery programs as that's far more niche then even Adobe. Thankfully, for my use case, I was able to switch over full time to Linux. That...

+1, but note it does take a little setting-up a.k.a. allowing "trusted" scripts for the various sites you use, especially at first. It should work, though.
