Re: FYI : YouTube blocking yt-dlp

Just a thought, I have no trouble with yt-dlp. It may be because I am logged into YouTube so I have a history of what I opened when I'm determining what I want to download. It works fine for me just copying the URL from the results, without actually playing the video. N.B. I trim off all the unnece...

That might be much further away if you disable "double-click"!

Re: FYI : YouTube blocking yt-dlp

I too hadn't used it in a while but did get a failed attempt a few days ago.

Found that the version I had was "broken" probably during the Plasma6 upgrade. Reinstalled from the repos and it worked fine again.

Guess the latest version should work on Mint too.

I'd love to find a modifier-key sequence for that. The nearest I can find is √ (in my case AltGr + v + /).

Welcome! :D

I agree with this:

I'm sure I've mentioned this on here before, but I switched (overnight) in February 2016, shortly before joining this Forum.

The main reason I switched right then is this happened to me

… and I couldn't be bothered to fix Windows 7 again this time.

Re: Why could we need Wayland more than Xorg (vsync & VFIO)

I'm guessing I'm about a year in now with Wayland. I'd tried it early last year but it seemed it was not ready, but next time I tried it I stuck with it. There are still a few things to be ironed-out, it seems, but for me it works better, in most regards, than X11 did. N.B. At the time of posting, I...

Re: "Why doesn't everyone do this?" features

Just a quick comment about systemctl reboot --firmware. Works on my 2012 UEFI HP Pavilion g6 old and heavy laptop. Does not work on my 2012 BIOS Dell Inspiron 620 desktop, That had occurred to me as well. I guess it also won't work on a (U)EFI capable machine which is booted in BIOS/Legacy mode. I'...

Re: "Why doesn't everyone do this?" features

In general, One of the things I hate is white/black listing of wireless modules inside the laptop. The laptop will not accept other wireless modules. This forces you to use a usb wifi stick instead. Indeed. Guess how I found out about that little gem. (Lenovo T440) Lenovo also DRMs their ...

Re: how do i stop asking password after i open chrome

Do you have auto-login set? As far as I recall, this will result in the browser asking for what I assume is the "master password" for Chrome (same with Firefox).

Hardware: More USB ports, upgradeable RAM, upgradeable storage, full-sized SD card slot instead of MicroSD, NUM pad keyboard, replaceable battery. Laptops have enough space for this! This! My T440 has only 2 USB ports. Meaning a hub is required in many cases e.g. if you want to use a mouse, plus mo...

Re: When did you start to realize Linux will never become the future of desktop computing?

Come to think of it, before Firefox I was using Avant Browser (basically an overlay for IE but added tab functionality, etc.). This would have been in Win98 I think. Before that, I'd used Netscape Navigator alongside the M$ offering. That was probably in Win3.1 and Win95 on my old 486DX2-66 machine.

I'd forgotten about that; mind you, I started with Firefox at version 2 point something or 3, I think, when I was still running xp.

I believe with endeavour u could use the aur and not break your system like you can with Manjaro since Manjaro is not really Arch. The main issue with using the AUR in Manjaro is with people using the Stable branch, really we (myself included) should be using Testing or Unstable as that is much clo...

Forgot to make a startup script executable. This required logging in via TTY to fix it.           … … … Also, got bitten by the old APT bug … installing VirtualBox stuff, saw the list of stuff it was about to remove and thought "Don't worry, it'll reinstall these". It didn't. No ability to...

Re: When did you start to realize Linux will never become the future of desktop computing?

There's at least one program I use which does have a fairly sensible name .. SongRec .. a front-end for Shazam but with much better features. I wonder who thought of Thunderbird (email)? Maybe a take on the concept of a fast carrier pigeon, but still. Gwenview (image viewer) at least has "view&...
