Re: My wireless is gone and I dont know how to get it back
The f12 button is for wireless off/on however pressing this does nothing, the light on the button stays orange Then something deeper is wrong. That light should not be orange all the time. You might be able to get a new internal wireless to match what you have. And I agree with richyrich . Check th...

Download Mint 17.3 Xfce 32-bit and build a LiveUSB drive. If you don't have any data to save, do the complete rebuild. Otherwise, backup your data and then do a complete rebuild. Allow me to make a recommendation on partitioning the hard drive. 80GB Hard Drive /boot - 1GB swap - 2.5GB (you said you ...

This is the standard question asked to get some system info. Run the following command at a terminal. That's a capital F if you type.
Copy and paste the output back here between Code tags.
Code: Select all

Re: How to link "My Computer" folders to another partition?
I know that if you create a /home partition, all user folders will be placed there. That's what I've done. You can try this tutorial and see if it provides some help. I have not tried it so I cannot speak to how well it will work.

Re: Linux mint 18.1 won't install correctly
I have a WD Passport 1TB USB drive. I have Mac Snow Leopard installed and have that dual-booted with Mint 18. (I also use the drive as a data backup.) I had to install OSX first and I did that because that creates the UEFI partition. When I installed Mint 18, GRUB did it's work and now I can boot in...

Re: Slick Billy Inc is at it again.
As for the thread topic, it sounds like Microsoft is just pulling an Apple. All Mac operating systems have a hardware life span; you can only run them on specific computers. The reverse is also true; newer Macs can't run older versions of OSX. Microsoft is just jumping on the "We know what's be...

Re: Slick Billy Inc is at it again.
We have more important things going on right now, like the government spying on every person. It's been happening since the 16th amendment was passed. FDR used to have Hoover's FBI dig up dirt on famous people and he would read them greedily like people watch soap operas today. The only difference ...

Re: Questions on scanning to PDFs, and Acrobat Pro/DC on Win/Mac
1) Not in my experience with Acrobat. Just make sure you extract the pages. 2) If you scan at 600 dpi, you should be able to reduce it to 300 without too much bad happening. Do some testing first. 3) I don't know. 4) You should be able to import a TIFF into a PDF at a later date but I don't know how...

Re: Old Computer Resurrection
Well, you may be able to run 64-bit but that depends on the system. Do a web search for your specific laptop model and see if it is 64-bit capable. If so, download whichever 64-bit version of Mint you like. Xfce is a bit less resource intensive and would run fine with 4GiB of RAM. Mate would probabl...

Re: Slow wifi on Linux Mint 18.1 Serena 64bit
My router only has 2.4 ghz. However, when I bring my laptop to work, I generally have to connect to the 2.4 network because it has better signal strength and is faster than the 5 ghz. Weird. I have a router with both and while the 2.4Ghz has better signal strength (which is normal depending on how ...

Re: What IS [CENSORED] ?
I got spanked because one poster wanted to find a photo of an Alfa Romeo. So, as a joke , I posted a photo of a 20th century Italian head of state (I cannot say the name for fear of being hammered again) standing in an Alfa Romeo. That joke was obviously too much for delicate eyes. There was another...

Does your router have both 2.4 and 5 Ghz wireless networks? If so, make sure you're connected to the 5 Ghz. It's worth checking.
