Re: Will April update of Windows 10 destroy my dual booting Linux Mint 19.1?

YMMV, but I've been installing and running Windows 10 Insider Preview releases since Oct 2014, dual booting Linux, usually Kubuntu and I've never lost the grub bootloader because of a Windows update. That said, I have already installed the Insider Preview of the the April 2019 update. My 10 year old...

Re: Access to Font Directory

If these computers are going to be setup for training purposes, would it not be reasonable to copy the whole system font folder to ~/.local/share/fonts, providing space is not limited? (246.7 MB in my Cinnamon install)

Just curious. :)

Re: Playing with KDE distros....Neon

KDE Neon was never meant to exist as a true Linus distribution, but as a test bed for the KDE developers. Updates for applications can be troublesome at times. I usually dual boot Kubuntu along with Windows, but I also have Mint Cinnamon on my 2nd PC.

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

Kubuntu 18.04 (and maybe earlier versions, too) include Muon package manager, a rebuild on Synaptic, which I prefer and always install. I don't care for Discover except for its update manager.

[tovian wrote]I'm planning to download Debian-KDE tonight - then begin testing it tomorrow.[/quote] Please take a little extra time after you complete this install to try to install printer drivers (HP is the best choice for any Linux OS). I've almost always had best results with printer drivers usi...

Re: Poll: What's Mint KDE 18 like? Please click!

I've found Mint's approach to Plasma 5 better for me than Kubuntu 16.04. Mint 18 KDE is faster and more stable. I don't know what is different, but it works and that's enough for me.

Re: chrome default browser

I unticked the box on the popup. The next time I opened Chrome it asked again near the top under the address bar. I clicked on Don't Ask Again. That's the last time I was nagged.

Re: Number of Linux users is growing!

Linux as a desktop or laptop OS would become better known and more popular if Linux were used as an alternate choice in schools. If Linux was introduced at the lowest grade computers are made available to students, then the operating system wouldn't seem to frightening to them as it is to most peopl...

Re: A tip for newbies

Depending upon whether I am in Windows or in Linux, I open Word or LibreOffice Writer to copy a page I have found interesting and a possible resource later. Saving pages this way allows me to save everything on a page including all graphics which if not included may make the page less instructional....
