Re: Wine 6.0 update availability

My preference is to install the new version and do my own testing. What works for one may not work for all has been my experience with Wine in the past.

Re: Wine 6.0 update availability

Thank you for the how to information. Unfortunately, I have had very poor success with installing anything not from the Mint repository, and I am sure I am not alone in this experience. Too complicated for mere mortals to attempt. Too bad the repository is allowed to lapse and not include this impor...

Wine 6.0 update availability

There is a new version of Wine out (6.0) and I am wondering when it will be vetted and available in the Software Manager? I still have a few Windows only programs I must run and there is always the chance that a new Wine might run them. Nothing I would like better than to toss my Windows system and ...

Re: How to recover a corrupt USB stick [SOLVED - sort of: it's beyond rescue]

Take a look at the stick and see if it has any strange partitions on it. If so, remove them and then reformat the stick.

SOLVED Google infestation

I did a clean install of Mint 20, then did a search of the file system. Well, there is all that Google stuff. It appears to come with the install. I have no idea of the reasoning behind the inclusion - but, I'd bet it is solid. I have faith in Mint.

Re: Google infestation

Mint 20 (updated every couple of weeks) and Firefox (latest available). I am going to do a clean install of Mint 20 on a spare drive and tinker with that and see if I can ascertain where the stuff (technical term for files of unknown origin) is coming from. I do use various blockers etc., all proper...

Google infestation

This afternoon I ran a search for "google" in my HOME directory. It listed a mob of stuff appearing to be Google related. Is this normal? If not, how do I get rid of it?

Why only outdated versions of Thunderbird?

I dual boot and there are days when I must remain on Windows all day. Hence, I check my email on TBird while in Windows. This is fine, until I switch back to Mint - where I used to be able to copy/paste the TBird profile from the Windows version to the Mint version. I can no longer do this, as the M...

Why would I want to run Linux inside Windows?

I run Mint for the security and simplicity of the OS. Why would I want to muddy the waters by running it inside of Windows 10? Seems to me, you are defeating the purpose of using Linux in the first place by having it anywhere near a Windows OS. Is there something I am missing? Currently I dual boot ...

Re: How can I lock audio selections

That appears to have fixed the problem. I rebooted and it stayed where it was supposed to.
Thank you very much. I would have been totally unable to solve this problem on my own. I just do not have the background.

How can I lock audio selections

Every time I reboot, I must reselect my audio input and output choices. Because I dual boot several times a day, this is a real detractor from using Mint 20. How can I make my selections permanent - so they will survive a reboot? Thank you.

Re: Is this the best way to fresh install windows 10 + mint?

Sadly, there are still a few Windows only programs out there that I need.
