Re: Tweaks to MintMenu in Mate

gm, Thanks for your reply. It's not that I dislike the scroll bar; it's that if the search box wasn't there, there would be enough room to display all the categories without needing a scroll bar. I mean, it's trivial, I could just consolidate two categories, or just learn to live with it. I've learn...

Re: Tweaks to MintMenu in Mate

gm, Thanks for your reply. I wasn't very clear, it's space within the menu (not the entire desktop) I wish to get back. The search box is wasted space for me. If it weren't there, I wouldn't have a scroll bar in the menu. OK, it's minor crap, I know. But if there was some parameter I could toggle to...

Tweaks to MintMenu in Mate

Hi, I'm running Linux Mint / Mate, ver 19.2. As noted in the title above, I'm using the MintMenu, not the Mate Menu. I'd like to make two tweaks to the menu; any suggestions appreciated. --1-- Remove the search box from the menu (I know what's in there and I want the space in the menu back). --2-- I...

Re: Remove hibernate option from shutdown

gm10, The response to "sudo grep hibernate /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/ -Rl" was as you expected. I did re-install the package you noted; I think I responded, "no change." The response to "busctl call org.freedesktop.login1 /org/freedesktop/login1 org.freedesktop.login1.Manager CanHibernate" wa...

Re: Remove hibernate option from shutdown

gm10, I think I just spotted the issue. There is nothing in /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/ as I said. But in your last note, where you mention checking the iso, you specify: /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla There are files in my /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-...

Re: Remove hibernate option from shutdown

gm10, Thanks for your help! The only thing which was in the localauthority sub directory was the file I tried at Schultz's suggestion. I deleted that, and confirmed there was nothing in the subdirectory. Then I used the synaptic package manager to re-install the policy package, and afterwards there ...

Re: Remove hibernate option from shutdown

Hi all, Thanks for the replies so far. The problem remains, see notes below. Schultz: I do have upower installed, and running. I tried your suggestion (including only the three "hibernate" stanzas only, not the three "suspend" stanzas) , but there was no change in behavior. The hibernate option rema...

Remove hibernate option from shutdown

Hi,
I'm running Mint 19.2 w/ Mate. I'd like to completely remove the hibernate option (ie., the hibernate button) from the "Quit" menu in the Main Menu. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Re: Fouled up my log-in

Hi, Ctrl-Alt-F[1-6] all give me tty access. F7 is the graphical log-in I described (blank screen with what appears to be an input location), and F8 I don't recall (think was another tty). I'm considering a fresh install, but I had success with alot of my tweaks. Hate to give them up. I'm 99% sure it...

Fouled up my log-in

Hi, I need some advice from a log-in expert -- I think. I installed LM 19.1 Cinnamon a month or so ago. I've been tweaking it and personalizing it. I got tired of struggling with the Cinnamon themes and decided to try Mate. So I added Mate in and started tweaking it abit. I decided I like Mate bette...

Re: Samba sharing problem

Hi, I am having a similar problem -- and maybe a workaround. I have 3 PCs on a network, all running Mint 17.3 (Cinnamon). All software is the current version. I have a home grown back-up routine which employs nfs/autofs. Around 11/17 it stopped working correctly; I tracked the problem down to one PC...

Problem with Cinnamon 2.8.8 and xwinwrap

I can get xwinwrap to use mplayer to display a streaming video as my background. While doing that I can see and use desktop icons, the panel, etc. If I close the last open window (or even minimize it), so that the only thing left on my screen is the background, I can no longer access the panel, any ...

Two panes in nemo

Hi,

I prefer using nemo with two panes. I can use the command line to open nemo with the left panel open to a specific directory, eg. nemo /etc, but I can't find a way to specify the second panel. Anyone know how to "specify left panel directory" and "right panel directory"? Thanks!
