Re: Do you donate to the Linux Mint Project? If so, why?
I marked #3. I am retired and after retirement I wanted an operating system that worked well is stable and did not keep nickle and diming me to death. I found Linux mint and switched. I then began volunteering at a local non profit in restoring/rebuilding computers and laptops.the non profit recycle...

A gent up the street had a 9 year old iMAC that he really did not care for 20 ". I broke out a pair of hand suction cups and pulled the RAM and the screen off. I dropped in a 500GB SSD I picked up for $35 and added another 4 GB Ram stick for 8GB max. I gave the guy that had the iMAC a Dell Lati...

I started with an ASR 33 TTY. Dial up to a realtime network that was only a couple of years be before the beginning of the internet. It barely had passwords let alone drives although there were punchcard oversized adding machines with hundreds of vacuum tubes

Along with slightly over 200 other recovered scraptops ( scrapped ex windows laptops) I recovered an old Sony VAIO PCG-3E2L. Maxed out the RAM and dropped in a 125 GB SSD for the Grandaughter who is working on her masters in Chemical Engineering. All of her Windex computers were stolen. Fortunately ...

Re: LM 20.0 an utter disaster on less than latest hardware.
I tried the online updates on 2 of my machines. both failed miserably. Downloading and a fresh install is a piece of cake. One was a circa 2007 Toshiba and one a 2008 acer, and this one an old HP. hubert@hubert-HP-Pavilion-dv5-Notebook-PC:~$ inxi -Fxzd System: Kernel: 5.4.0-40-generic x86_64 bits: 6...

Re: LM 20 Worst Upgrade Experience EVER!
I did not do the LM 20 Cinnamon upgrade on this old Samsung as I like the 19.3 the way it is. I am running 12 LM laptops and a desktop in a home office. I generally do fresh installs but this laptop came up with a group of accessories that I have not been able to duplicate on any of the other machin...

I learned a little about LM in 2016 just after the Belaruse hack. Since then I have installed well over 200 LM OS in resurrected desktops and laptops, Most for a non Profit "FreeGeek". I have also installed more than 50 in scraptops (broken Laptops) of both the MS variety and Apple. The va...

I have been thoroughly enjoying "Grimm Reaper". Only about 2500+ pages but well worth reading. It is also a work in progress.

Many older laptops are very good like this one I purchased that had only a 1 GB RAM that I added to. The laptop had XP on it and was nearly unusable. I have not found much difference between LM 19.3 cinnamon 64 and LMDE4 cinnamon 64. Most all of the terminal commands I get into every once in a while are the same copy and paste from my library I have been keeping.

I have converted many friends and associates to LM in the last 3 years. I only had one real failure. a relatively new HP laptop ownced by a friend for use by her mother who is in her 90's to play solitaire. Her suite died and she did not want to renew the MS fee of $140 for the anti virus and -offic...
