Re: ASUS mini ... is Mint installation possible ???

This Asus is similar. I installed LM 18.3 Cinnamon 64 in it with the 320 GB HDD. I found it to ban e a little sluggish when typing The space bar took twice as long as the rest of the keys to register. I had to fight with the bios for about 5 trys before the bios would boot from the HDD. It recognize...

Re: How to enable UEFI?

LinuxMintForum5. Don't bother with UEFI. It does nothing to help users. I replaced IE Kaspersky, McAffee and Norton with Mozilla. Once the customer was able to block Microsoft, Kaspersky, McAffee and Norton on the internet and phone demanding $100 each per year for their buggy software, I installed ...

Re: Linux on a Mac computer? (solved)

I have done about a dozen installs on MacBook 2.0 and 2.1. The owner wished to keep the old drive so I did an initial install from a live disk to a SATA drive 160GB $15 mounted in a standard Toshiba laptop with a similar CPU. On the install I entered Mac 2.X under computer name instead of the Toshib...

Re: Missed Linux :(

Good Luck on putting together a group. I volunteer at a non profit recycling laptops and desktops. over 99% go out the door with LM 18.3 Cinnamon, On my own I have recycled and loaded over 300 PC's, laptops and Macbooks to LM Cinnamon with them all working. I have yet to see any of them on the forum...

Re: Running LM From a Flash Drive

The typical Flash drives do not last long running LM. The best way is to get a Scraptop (trashed laptop ) or well used desktop and install it. You need at least a dual core CPU or bigger, a 80-500GB HDD or SSD, and at least 2 GB of RAM. I have several that I have thrown together for between $25 and ...

Re: Cinnamon lagging

Things look OK but the SSD is on the small side. Did you install all of the drivers? Also any more updates via the Update manager? Only other thing might be to try reseating your RAM sticks. BTW I am running Cinnamon on a dozen laptops and desktops, and have done installs on over 200 systems in the ...

Re: Apps fail after Linux Mint 18.3, 64bit updates

ineuw. I did notice your temperature on the CPU is a bit warm. Time for a quick fan/heatsink cleanup/ It will also need some thermal compound ( a little dab will do ) if you need to remove the heatsink from the MB. Be careful to put the same screws in the same holes they came out of. Just my thing! 8)

Re: Miracast with MS Dongle

The dongle id hardware. It plugs into an HDMI port. It does not care if the port is connected to a Windex , or an android, or a Mac, or ? It only processes audio/video information.

Re: Hi, new to Mint but not new to Linux

Welcome Jeff.
You listed the secondary reasons that I made the switch to LM Cinnamon 2 years ago. The other was the continuous piracy and meddling in private commercial files that I had in mjy old computers with Windex :? in them.

Re: Is It Possible To Copy My Desktop System To My Netbook?

Personally I just do an identical install on all of my systems including this system, an MSi U100 32 bit system with 1 GB of RAM and a fairly small HDD with a single core Atom. It is a bit slow on LM 18.3 Cinnamon but it is acceptable for writing, Browsing, even Librecalc. I carry it in my bike bag ...

Re: where is Hard drive in Linux Mint?

Hi TexasJim. I think someone got off to the wrong starting line. The DE is the distribution of Linux Mint (cinnamon) in this case. The hard drive in this case is the mechanical program storage device. This is a Toshiba laptop. I am not certain of the particular configuration of this one but I have r...

Re: Suggestion for installer: Do not preselect "Erase disk and install Linux Mint".

I have only trashed 1 windows in a dual install. In that case the windows was already unusable with an MS update from Win7 to 10. Windows insisted on using 500GB on a 500GB HDD.

Re: Install woes

Try plugging in a "Live" install disk or flash drive and downloading a fresh OS and burning it as usual with the OS in your "Live drive". You will need a second flash drive or DVD to do it.
Then shut the system down and reinstall the OS from the new "Live " media.

Re: [SOLVED] Is it possible to install Linux onto the hard disk without deleting Windows Vista?

This past few months I have updated several office systems to dual boot LM 64 Cinnamon and either Vista or Win7. I installed from a live flash drive. The total machine count has been 38. The owners wanted to keep the Windows files beside being backed up. I went through the bios and had no difficulty...

I just gave away 2 more live DVD's of LM 64 Cinnamon today with a distro install lable instructions. People that expressed they were having issues with their Windex machines. They were referred by other local converts. I figure I will probably hear from them again if they succeed with either a dual ...
