Re: "Image For Linux"

If OP is talking about the TeraByte Unlimited's software, I'll give my 2 cents. I've been using their Image software for years (preferred their own bootable OS, kind of DOS) for my work, back when it was v.2.xx Very reliable, never let me down, restore always worked. So, from my point of view, well ...

Re: Which scripts do you use often?

So which scripts made your life better? Interesting question. It seems we all make our own (different) scripts because we all have our own (different) needs. But isn't that the point of scripting? :) ...mostly to cut down on typing Well, on my side, it's mostly to cut down on remembering . :D I'm u...

Re: How to refresh Thunar's view - from script?

Thank you, MrEeen, for offering help. Thunar's "Reload" shortcut is Crtl+R. Have you tried that? I believe Ctrl-R works the same as F5. I just tried both of them in both situations (in Thunar and on the desktop) and both shortcuts does the same job. If these files are on the desktop only, and you're...

How to refresh Thunar's view - from script?

I have made a script to use it as a custom action in Thunar. It's purpose is to hide/unhide files/directories from plain view, without changing filename (w/o adding dot in front of the filename) by adding filename(s) to a .hidden file. And that script works just fine. Problem is – Thunar doesn't ful...

Re: Spectrum Analyzer not getting input from sound card

Also, if you use PulseAudio you can get PulseEffects. It has a nice old-fashioned bar-like analyzer. :D peffects.jpg It's not in official repos, but you can use this PPA . You can even generate pink noise with it, if you are really interested to setup your EQ "properly". (I admit I never used PulseE...

Re: Spectrum Analyzer not getting input from sound card

Why mess with Wine and Windows software? There are some native Linux players that have spectrum analyzers. Here's the analyzer that comes with Audacious:

Dependecy is Not satisfiable: libpng 12-0
Aftershot is old program, which uses old libraries, which are not available in repositories anymore. But it should be possible to install Xenial version:

Re: youtube-dl

We were typing at the same time. :) They could but doing that would break applications that expect /usr/bin/python to point to the python2 executable, and with LM13/12.04 I would expect that to be quite a few. Even on LM19.x it would still break a number of applications. So not the recommended cours...

Re: youtube-dl

OK, I just realized that OP shouldn't do exactly "the same", because on his system there are probably too many system tools written specifically for python2. So, changing symlink to point to python3 probably isn't good idea... But, he can do something like this: python3 /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl -F ...

Re: youtube-dl

So, I would say: it's not the problem with youtube-dl, But it is, see my post above. Sooo... what you are saying is that everybody's youtube-dl is broken (if used with python 2.x)? OK, I tested it – changed python symlink in /usr/bin (which was pointing to python 2.7) to point to python 3.6... and ...

Re: youtube-dl

Well, with the link you gave us, even my youtube-dl (which is refreshed today, running on LM 19.3, also freshly updated) doesn't work either. It throws on me a handful of errors, not exactly the same as your's but similar. I have checked and I don't see problems with youtube-dl on any other site. So...

Re: Dark theme with light borders

Have you tried flat remix theme https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1214931/ No. I didn't even know it has a white-bordered variant. I do check gnome-look.org regularly (actually xfce-look.org, but they are the same). But I never realized it has white border, because screenshot is displayed over white bac...

Dark theme with light borders

Xfce ONLY. Are you using dark theme on your Linux? Ever had a problem to "find that window's corner"? I had. That's why I made this. I gave it name 'Mint-B' (1). It's not a complete theme, but rather a supplement to Mint-Y-Dark theme, which is very well done and very complete one, except one small i...

Re: need to install OpenGL 3.3

Are you possibly trying to use some software that requires OpenGL 3.3? That was my reason to look for "higher OpenGL version". So, how to upgrade OpenGL support? By upgrading graphics card driver OR (if that's not possible) graphics card. Basically, your graphics chip AND corresponding driver will p...

I cannibalized a script I had done for other purposes that makes a nice striped timezone list. Here is my variant:

Re: Virtual Box shared folders

Question for OP: Did you add yourself to vboxusers group? If not, that's probably the reason why shares doesn't work. To do so (instructions applicable to Xfce DE, not sure about others): open Users Settings > Manage Groups > select 'vboxusers' group > Properties > tick yourself as a member > OK > r...
