I can tell that there's great interest in this topic, as it's existence has certainly generated a plethora of responses! So to feed someone's curiosity, though I have no idea whose (yet) I'm posting a picture of my current settings of Quasmixer image.png I really do hope that *someone* can help me w...

Re: Microphone seems to work, no applications "hear" it
While this has a lot of information in it, it offers me NO help at figuring out what I did to 'break' my microphone that it can't be heard by any applications. I DO have sound, All applications but one works, and the one that doesn't work is my microphone, despite the fact that I can hear my microph...

Microphone seems to work, no applications "hear" it [Found it and fixed it myself.]
Dear Friends, I have this habit of going around to second hand and used stuff stores, and picked up a usb turntable to try using it on my Linux Mint Mate computer to convert some long playing records to .mp3. However, I could never make my computer recognise the turntable and make it's sound audible...

So, in your opinion, I should disable/uninstall that PPA? I don't remember the reason I installed it in the first place.

Re: Why install transitional package for nvidia-kernel-common-470
I haven't installed it yet! I'd like to avoid potential problems with graphics card drivers. "This is a transitional package for nvidia-kernel-common-470, and can be safely removed after the installation is complete." So I'm wondering what is the point to installing it? Isn't installing it...

Re: Seattle Space Needle!
The highest places I've ever been to was 1) a hospital windowed elevator that went up eight floors that had a marvelous view of the parking lot, and 2) a telephone pole about thirty eight feet in the air that I had my television antenna attached to, that I had to climb up and adjust sometimes.I did ...

Actually, I was wondering why the option "why?" wasn't included. Oh, I also used ClamAV before I gave up on winxp.

Re: Systems with Linux pre-installed
If money were no object, any of these would do fine for me. Unfortunately, it is an object, so I'm using a secondhand Chromebook. I'm so sad that I couldn't get the sound working without installing another OS.

Re: Converted Chromebook has Alsa, no sound
Actually...I gave up and installed Manjaro XFCE which worked automagically right off the bat. Sorry if I disappointed. I will keep this in mind though. I'm thinking about buying more chromebooks and installing Linux on them.
Thanks for your interest, and your help.

Re: Converted Chromebook has Alsa, no sound
I tried this 'fix' and while Pauvucontrol now 'sees' the card and the software, it stubbornly refuses to make a peep. It now 'sees' all the HDMI outputs, but no actual sound output. I changed the settings on Alsa so the computer now sees that it has a sound card. It just refuses to use it. Despite i...

Re: Converted Chromebook has Alsa, no sound
I think you guys are missing the fact that the sound DOES work, and this laptop HAS a working sound card. I had it hooked up to a television that has a HDMI output and it worked fine there. I even posted my ALSA software UI for you that has the sound card listed. So how do I make the computer use th...

Re: Converted Chromebook has no onboard sound.
Nope! This computer no longer has the original operating system. It went with a struggle, but I finally got rid of it
