Re: Can't transfer large files or large amounts of data, still.

I'm surprised that I can still log into here. I have to apologize. It has appeared, finally, that I have a memory chip issue. At least on the main computer. And the netbook is working fine with a different operating system. But it appears that my main computer had one set of chips go bad. I just rep...

Re: Can't transfer large files or large amounts of data, still.

Thanks Moem. The problem is that the time it takes to get suggestions here is longer than the time that I have available. For me, a computer is a tool, just like a hammer is to a carpenter. About 30 to 40 years ago, it was an experience. But now it is not. It's simply a tool to do other things. Micr...

Re: Can't transfer large files or large amounts of data, still.

The end result was that I was unable to get into the operating system. I don't know why. I just woke up that day and couldn't use my computer. The computer was giving me the message that I wasn't "root." This ended up with me wiping the drive. As for my frustration, it was apparent. I am sorry if I ...

Re: Can't transfer large files or large amounts of data, still.

One thing about it, I am losing patience with people who think that everyone should learn to be a Linux programer. A computer is a tool. Not the end-all for most people. I have not written programs in 30 years, and don't intend to start now. My goal is NOT to learn to program in Linux. I wrote a lot...

Can't transfer large files or large amounts of data, still. [SOLVED]

I thought that I had this cured. But it seems that I was mistaken. There is a bug here that limits the amount of data that I can transfer though any USB port. In my computer, I have four USB3 ports and four USB2 ports. I also have a docking port with an additional four USB3 ports and two USB2 ports....

Re: When copying files, Nemo freezes.. [SOLVED]

While everyone here claims that Linux is immune to malware bugs, I figure that I had one. The cure was to use a Live CD to delete my main drive partition, and any other partitions except for the "Swap" partition, format my new partition, run the "Check" function in the partitioning software, and ins...

Re: Locked out of internal drives SOLVED!

Finally! :D The issue was solved by formatting my hard drive and removing what I think was the boot partition, creating a new formatted partition, running the "Check" function on the drive, and then installing a new operating system. After 4 operating systems, an unknown number of times trying to r...

Re: Locked out of internal drives

Same problem on different computer, only without the system crashes. I probably should start a new thread here. On my Mint Xfce computer, I did an update yesterday. There was a long list of updates, including new Linux header. I updated using the standard Mint Update Manager. I 1st install all of th...

Re: Locked out of internal drives

1st. I got the same problems with a clean install. I have installed Mint several times. 2nd In the Auth logs, PAM shows me being signed out as the user just as it crashes. Actually, the Auth log shows PAM signing me out and signing me in several times. I remember seeing one where I had been signed o...

Re: Locked out of internal drives

I installed a new 4 TB main drive, and removed the other drives. I see that I had made the mistake of cloning the main drive with Clonezilla, and I ended up with limited space. Only 1 TB was being used on the new drive. I then attempted to used 'KDE Partition' to setup the other 3 TB (approx) partit...

Re: Locked out of internal drives

fungus I went to the man pages and figured out what you were saying. I got it to work, sort of. But am still having problems. I waited until the next day to try to re-install Mint. I got it installed without further problems. Then I executed the commands for changing permissions, after reading the m...

Re: Locked out of internal drives

Well I really messed things up now. I decided to re-install the system, again. However, it seems that the main drive is blocking the CD software from erasing it. Or else, the CD that I used last time isn't working anymore. So I am going downhill on this thing. (I think I will become a hermit in a ca...

Re: Locked out of internal drives

fungus Thanks for the attempt. But it didn't work. I put your instructions on a thumb drive, and carried them to my Mint computer. (It is in a different room, and I have not configured the Internet for it yet. The Mint computer has been my main computer for a couple of years, until this started a co...

Re: Locked out of internal drives

2 things JerryF.

1st. I've been using the encrypted hard drives for 6 months without problems. They came on suddenly.
2nd. Nothing is solved.

Re: Locked out of internal drives

Thanks. I'll try that. Interesting point is that when I reinstalled the Mint operating system the 1st time, using the encrypted drive option, I had access to the drive. I just could not copy files from any of my drives to an external drive with a NTFS file system. This time, when I installed Mint, I...

Locked out of internal drives [SOLVED]

I have another issue posted elsewhere here about being unable to copy files to external drives. I think these issues are related. Anyway, I decided to re-install Mint, AGAIN! New install. After that, I only added Lucky Backup software, after updating the system software. So my system is the basic Mi...

Re: Errors with burniing new Mint 18.2 DVDs. [SOLVED]

In going back and verifying the checksums on my downloaded ISO, they come up with the correct 256 codes, so the downloads were fine. They simply didn't burn properly. I used Raymond's ND5 and SHA utility program to check the downloads on my Windows 7-64 computer https://raylin.wordpress.com/download...
