Re: Restart hangs

Could this be some firmware corruption and un-fixable ? ? ? ? Not so much "a corruption" in the sense I'd use the word but a BIOS ACPI-implementation bug or oddity could certainly be the issue. There's probably a way around it though. First try something not (directly) ACPI-related; what ...

The error I'm getting is: Unable to retrieve share list from server:Invalid argument.
I.e., Samba. So yes, try if Warpinator works for you if both/all systems run Mint; it's Mint's answer to easy file transfer between local systems.

Absolutely. In a manner quite similar to programming Javascript it is for example also very possible to saw one's own leg off with a rusty breadknife for fun.

Re: Home encryption

I believe xenopeek above answered a different question than asked. That is: a user's encrypted home directory lives under /home/.ecryptfs/<username> and is on login of said user decrypted and mounted on /home/<username>. This decryption happens (in a two-step process; not important here) under contr...

Re: NFS share wont mount on boot

Interesting; might then be some weird interplay with the x-systemd.mount-timeout=10s parameter? I.e., systemd in case of presence of that parameter not communicating up mount failures in the manner the in this case graphical filemanager expects to see. Or some such. Will at least try to remember tha...

Re: NFS share wont mount on boot

Mmm. I never experienced that with Nemo although admittedly that might be partly due to me not using graphical file managers (much) anyway. Did you perhaps set a NAS-location as a favourite/bookmark in its lefthand sidebar? I also just now remembered that in Thunar's case it was in fact also "s...

Re: NFS share wont mount on boot

IIRC that means I now know that you use the Xfce edition of Mint or more specifically the Thunar file manager. Yes; I noticed that before as well; Thunar seems to enumerate locations it should not at its startup and moreover fails ungracefully if an e.g. network location isn't available. This would ...

Re: Brainteaser for those who like to have their brains bent

I really quite literally hardly know where to start --- but let us then I guess. You explicitly adhere to excluded middle, so good. At 1 we have, for any statement s, 1 (<s> in P) <=> (s is provable) We can take this as mere definition of P (or of <s>) but fine, let us take it at face value. It is t...

rene, you know not who you are really in a "battle" of wits with... Mathematics, mathematical logic included, is not ever a battle but the literally one and only part of humanity's doings in which no matter how loud one or the other speaks or how soft or hard one or the other's sword is f...

Re: Brainteaser for those who like to have their brains bent

What is the phrase 'this statement' referring to? Either it refers to some statement we are not cognisant of whence it can not be decided by us whether or not the statement "This statement is false" is true or false or it refers to the statement "This statement is false" itself ...

Re: Samba is Trash

As a file system, I see EXT4 as an advantage that I don't want to abandon it for NFS; it's the networking I am having trouble with. You mistook NFS for NTFS there. Latter is a local filesystem type in the same sense as ext4; former is the UNIX-centric Network File System and the UNIX-canonical way ...
