Re: I want more control over updates

How about a search function, so I don't have to read and try to decipher 150 entries to make sure some slippery wifi "upgrade" sneaks by? I think there could be more than one improvement made to the update manager...

yes, right click it in the list of updates in Mint Update Manager and choose the blacklist option. however, a partial update is not really recommended as it can cause problems long term.
And a complete update deletes my wifi, rendering all activity impossible

I want more control over updates

For example, is there a way to remove something permanently from the update list, so I don't have to go thru the list manually and uncheck it every time I update?

Re: download images from iphone

Occasionally, Windows is the answer. Easy peasy download. Perhaps this quoted post of mine wasn't clear, but I was able to download the photos easily on Windows 7. I left the thread unsolved because I thought maybe someone else would have the problem and not have access to the Windows solution. As ...

Re: download images from iphone

When you connect the iphone8 to your computer, if it doesn't work initially, unmount, disconnect and try again. It might take a few attempts before it works. I've used some automatic downloaders in the past, but I've also just used a simple 'select some', and then drag to a folder on my computer. E...

A problem is that this is my employer's phone, and I probably do not have the ability to add any software to it.

I need to download images off of my work iphone, I think its an iphone8. Computer is a T410 with 19.3 Cinnamon. I have rapid photo downloader 0.9.9 installed, which is what I use to painlessly download images from various cameras. But it doesn't work with this phone. When I connect and initiate the ...

Re: ran Timeshift restore, now can't login

Finally some good news. after several restores I was able to get connected to wifi, I had to reset the hotspot/smartphone. I updated ONLY my browsers and Thunderbird and everything seems peachy now. I was also able to connect with live Mint 20, so thats reassuring in case this flounders. But I'll gi...

Re: ran Timeshift restore, now can't login

Trying to fix the wifi is what caused the wifi to vanish in the first place. I need wifi to run updates. :D Although my switch is back, I can't connect. And even if I can connect, I don't know which update is the culprit. Things don't seem to be getting better. I also ran a live Mint 20 stick and co...

Re: ran Timeshift restore, now can't login

Voila! Now I can login again, and my wireless switch has been restored. I will have to poke around a bit to see if anything is awry, but so far so good. All I had to do was free up space. I'm thinking I probably should run the restore again with plenty of free space, just to be sure it restored ever...

Re: ran Timeshift restore, now can't login

Then the other issue is that the disk is still full, and I can't figure out how to delete anything via USB...it won't let me... Are you using Nemo or the terminal (or something else) in the live USB to access and delete files from your hard drive? What kind of error message are you getting when you...

Re: ran Timeshift restore, now can't login

I know where the snapshots are and need to go, although it took live Timeshift forever to recognize them. My only concern with Timeshift now is that the other default settings (there's one for boot, and one other thing) are correct. They probably are, because I wouldn't have changed those kinds of s...

Re: ran Timeshift restore, now can't login

i simply do not understand how restoring a timeshift snapshot breaks your login. i have had at least 500 timeshift restorations if not more cause i destroy my system quite regularly, but now i'm swamped at work so i don't disect my root as often. my last timeshift was 2 days ago trying to upgrade f...

Re: ran Timeshift restore, now can't login

I opened up 6 GB on my Linux drive

can someone explain how to do a Timeshift restore via live usb? Opening Timeshift via live usb, it doesn't immediately detect the previous snapshots and I want to make absolutely sure I don't eff it up again, especially with boot settings.

Re: ran Timeshift restore, now can't login

No go. Clean didn't clean anything, and fsck aborts at line 80 and won't run.

I can remove files from my Home folder to free up space, if it would help. I presume I'd have to run Timeshift to restore again, which I presume I can do from live usb. This is all new to me.
