Re: My Mint crashes severely

Hi all, Thank you for the suggestions. I upgraded to 18.3 and so far so good. Like 24 hours with no problems. The upgrade was really fast, easy, really smooth. I was thinking before it would be somewhat painful, like Windows 10 upgrades :D :D but I was wrong. I have never performed in-place Mint upg...

My Mint crashes severely

Hi, My LM 18.1 XFCE started crashing severely since last week (Friday) - PC freezes to unresponsive or lots of things display errors to unusable and the only way out is to press and hold the power-on button to hard restart it. Sometimes several times. It has done it at least 20 times since Friday. S...

Re: SSD issue bad disk ?

Thanks for your replies. 1 additional restart and 15 minutes after my post above ... and the SSD drive failed completely. But it is so strange that it was working perfectly fine yesterday It froze completely, Linux Mint could barely load to password prompt. Bootable drives with LM or Windows could n...

[SOLVED] SSD issue bad disk ?

Hi, Running LM 18.1 - updated - kernel 4.4 I replaced an old and slow HDD (but working HDD) with a new faster SSD less than an year ago on my refurbished HP. The SSD was placed in a caddy and the HDD removed completely. All was fine until today when I wanted to make an image using Clonezilla. Less t...

MTU 1200 - Outlook.Office3365.com

Hi, I came across a very strange issue. I started working for a company who uses Office 365 and occasionally I need to check my email when at home from my Linux Mint PC. I tried before and it worked (sometimes) to open : 1. http://portal.office365.com 2. Sign in 3. Click on Mail (web app) icon which...

Re: USB flash drive 120 GB ext4

Ok,
something else,

I deleted the .json file and pasted it again (directly from Firefox as bookmarks export) and it worked now. The .json file appears with owner me (Aleks) and is no longer with an x.

So, does this mean I need to delete all the files inside and copy/paste them again ?

Re: USB flash drive 120 GB ext4

Hi catweazel , Thank you. I did this but nothing changed on the USB drive. The owner still says root I typed sudo chown aleks "/media/aleks/ADATA 120GB/" and hit ENTER Confirmed root password and after 2-3 seconds, it went on another row, I think this means successful because it didn't display an er...

Re: browser: alternatives to Firefox 57

If you ask me it's high time Linux Mint (and Ubuntu) moved to Firefox ESR for their repositories - Firefox ESR as a main primary browser for their LTS releases.

That automatically fixes (almost) everything.

Update Manager thinks I have Chromium installed

Hi, Just a few minutes ago the Update Manager turned blue i for an update and I opened it. Noticed it offers me to update Chromoum. I don't have Chromium installed at all, never had on this PC. Cannot install GRUB

Hi, One of my computers is laptop HP Elitebook 2570p. Purchased it refurbished. It is an old model but very stable and works fine. The only cons I know is the HDD (120 GB, 1.8 inch Samsung 3600 RPM) which makes it a bit slow. I brought the PC to a service center and they removed the DVD device, inst...

Cannot disable bluetooth permanently

Hi, On LM 17.2 which I used to use before, I could initially disable bluetooth and it remembered the settings permanently despite numerous reboots. There seems to be some bug in LM 18 (18.1) because I cannot make it remember my preference. I start the PC, bluetooth icon appears in blue as enabled. I...
