Mint or other distribution for laptop tablet mode, 2 in 1 convertables, touch screens

Hello, I am interested in collecting up-to-date information, user experiences, and opinions, on how well mint performs with an ultrabook style laptop which has both traditional laptop and tablet modes? For clarity, I am referring to laptops with touch screens, and the ability to switch or convert to...

Re: Driver Manager - Correct Settlings for Nvidia to Fix Crashing?

Thanks for your expertise in the matter. I will try out the "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau" [open-source] option. The memory test you suggested seems to show that the "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau" [open-source] option uses less memory [closer to perhaps 55% compared to 70-75%] when multiple webpages are...

Re: Driver Manager - Correct Settlings for Nvidia to Fix Crashing?

Thank-you! I ran "sudo apt purge *nvidia*; reboot" and have regained full access to the menu and other lower tool bar program icons. The "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau" [open-source] option is selected. At this point I wonder if I should try this option, or revert back to "nvidia-340" [recommended] whi...

Re: Driver Manager - Correct Settlings for Nvidia to Fix Crashing?

Thanks again.
And to clarify l would type "nvidia-304.135" or type specifically "*nvidia*".

I guess l would like to revert back to recommended driver default for nvidia (dispite the crashing) because apparently 304.135 causes more issues than it solves unfortunately.

Re: Driver Manager - Correct Settlings for Nvidia to Fix Crashing?

Yikes. After rebooting with the older NVIDIA driver l have lost access to the menu and programs on my tool bar at the bottom of the screen. I can't shut down the computer or access the driver manager to switch back to the newer recommended driver. I can acccess the terminal buy don't know what comma...

Re: Driver Manager - Correct Settlings for Nvidia to Fix Crashing?

Thank-you. I ran the System Monitor to observe memory usage as you suggested. It seems that my two CPU's spike above 95% as webpages are opened and information is downloaded + the memory usage exceeds 70%. I will try switching to the older nvidia-304.135 driver and see if there's any elimination or ...

Driver Manager - Correct Settlings for Nvidia to Fix Crashing?

Hello, I have experienced an annoying problem with complete screen freezes and this has occurred for years throughout Mint 17.3, 18.0, 18.1, 18.2, and now 18.3. The problem seems to occur when I have several [4-8] webpages open at once. However, I have experienced screen freezing / crashing when onl...

[Solved] Re: New Software Installation - Check Signature [ ProjectLibre ] ?

Thank-you Ben! I appreciate your guidance and was able to navigate to the correct directory and run the MD5 hash [which matches the published one]. It appears I benefited from some additional instructions on specific steps. I also looked into the difference between the MD5 and SHA1 hashes, and ran t...

Hello, I would like to install new software called "Projeclibre". This is an open source project management tool promoted as an alternative to Microsoft Project. It's simple enough to locate the files here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/projectlibre/files/ProjectLibre/1.8/ While I believe sourcef...

Re: How to Find Device URI? [printer scanner]

Thanks I could buy a USB cable for it [don't have one now] but that's what I wanted to avoid because it's across a room.
However, is this merely a method to set the printer up?
Thanks again.

Thank-you.
And I believe one can go into the Disks/CD/DVD Drive/Additional Partion Options/Edit Mount Options - to turn off the CD/DVD drive.

Re: How to Enable the universe / multiverse repositories?

Recommended InkJet Printer Scanner ?

Hello, Does anyone have any Linux friendly InkJet Printer Scanners to recommend? I am hoping to identify a brand and/or model(s) which are relatively hassle free to download the linux drivers and setup the print and scan functions. An InkJet printer/scanner is the best choice for me, and the #1 feat...

Re: Upgrade Mint 18.0 to 18.1 - from downloaded ISO

Thanks again for the clarification, MintBean and JerryF.
I have 18.1 successfully installed, it's working smoothly, and have a clearer idea of the how the update manager works from the repositories.

Upgrade Mint 18.0 to 18.1 - from downloaded ISO

Hello, I believe this is a fairly basic update question, yet somehow I am not understanding, some of the basics. Background: My objective is to simply update from Mint 18.0 to 18.1 (cinnamon, 64 bit), and I wanted to learn how to correctly/ safely do this, and verify the ISO. What I did first was go...
