Re: Cinnamon in software rendering mode.

Hey MrMajik,

Thanx,...
That thought did cross my mind,
but that still leaves the rest of the question: Is this GPU that I am buying a good choice?

Anyone?

Thanx,

Re: Cinnamon in software rendering mode.

if only... To be sure that I will not run into problems, I have installed a VirtualBox with Linux Mint Cinnamon 19. I get the same message in my top right corner and when I perform this: sudo apt install libegl-mesa0 I get the response it is already installed. After reboot the same message is shown....

Re: NFS mount in /etc/fstab of my QNap shares

Hey Catweazel,
Thanx for your efforts. I was hoping there might be someone on this forum who is familiar with both QNap NASs and Linux Mint.
Anyone?

Thanx.

Re: NFS mount in /etc/fstab of my QNap shares

Hi Catweazel, altair, Thanx for your replies. As you can see in the initial message, I had put this line in my fstab: [ipadresofmyQNapNAS]/Backup /home/[myusername]/NAS/Backup nfs _netdev,auto 0 0 I hadn't put it between code but it was all there. Perhaps you could elaborate on the options that I sh...

NFS mount in /etc/fstab of my QNap shares

Is there anyone who has successfully mounted a number of QNap shares via /etc/fstab? I have done this: * turn on NFS access in QNap, * configure NFS access for all shares from all computers in the network * add lines in the computer's firewall config for connecting between the computer and the NAS *...

Re: Looking for a NAS with awesome Linux Mint support.

Hi there, Thanx for your input so far. Perhaps I didn't express clearly what I meant. Most brands of NAS's come with support software to connect to your pc through the network: e.g. in Windows: get access to the shares on the NAS with a drive letter (For those who don't know Windows: it works with d...

Looking for a NAS with awesome Linux Mint support.

Hi all, My Qnap NAS gave up the ghost after less than 6 months despite its hefty price. Of course, the shop will get me a replacement, but I was underwhelmed by Qnap's support for Linux: i.e. it was non-existent. I am now looking for a NAS that has better integration and support for Linux Mint...

AMD Radeon HD 4650 freezes; buying a new Graphics Card?

Hi there, At times, usually when I am playing a video on my desktop pc, the pc freezes: the screen turns black, comes back to life, but I cannot move mouse or use keyboard to do anything. So I need to do a hard reboot. It's my impression that it is the video card that is at fault: it is an (old) AMD...

empty ReadyNAS trash can from Linux Mint 18.1 machine

Hi there, I am running a Linux Mint 18.1 system and have mounted a ReadyNAS 102 to that system using the file /etc/fstab: 192.168.178.20:/data/docs /home/[username]/NAS/docs nfs _netdev,auto 0 0 I've done the same for the other subfolders in the /data folder of the ReadyNAS device. So they show up i...

Re: manual mounting works ok, via fstab doesn't

Hey all, Thanx so much for all your advice. I looked into all of them, tried the different options (Grumpy Geek) the workaround (altair4) --- and failed and came to the conclusion that using SSH is a good alternative that will serve my needs of connecting two Linux Mint computers. The AutoFS (hinto)...

manual mounting works ok, via fstab doesn't

:!: edited question :?: (after reading FT's remarks) Hi there, To connect two Linux Mint pc's, I followed this tutorial: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-configure-nfs-on-linux . So I installed and configured NFS, both server and client as instructed. In my server's /etc/exports file I added: /home/t...

connect 2 computers with NFS

Hi there, I have been looking for instructions for connecting two linux mint computers and have a simple question: when using NFS do I always use a server and a client? or is it possible to make peer to peer connections with NFS? Is it a problem if one is LM 17.3 Cinnamon and the other LM 18? (I don...

which Node.JS?

Hi there, I have just reinstalled my Linux Mint 17.3 from scratch. I want to install Node.JS on my machine and then run Gulp, but on many sites I read "do not use apt-get to install Node.JS" They never mention a reason. Apparently, it is better to use NVM (??) So, can anyone explain it to me? Which ...

errors while installing Gulp.js locally

Hi there I installed Node.JS without problems. Installing Gulp.JS 'globally' was not a problem either. The next step was to install Gulp.JS locally in my project folder, as you are supposed to do. So I changed directory to ~/Documenten/gulp/ and ran the install command: npm install --save-dev gulp ....

Hey guys, You're quick and goood  :D @Xenopeek: You're right about the group command. I did grup and got the groups that I am in.   so then I did sudo -i and ls -la /root and here's the screen content: totaal 48 drwx------ 11 root mdm 4096 apr 15 16:25 . drwxr-xr-x 24 root ro...
