Re: Note syncing between Linux and Android, anybody ???

Of the seven PC's and laptops here, I have only one that is not running Linux Mint... my personal PC and the issue of syncing devices is one of the last three issues. On my Windows PC I run a program called AkrutoSync . It creates a mini-Exchange/MAPI server that my Android Phone can see and connect...

Re: Mint 19 sees my BT Mouse but does not work with it

The link provided by Beerislife is somewhat dissimilar to my problem. The Laptop 'sees' my mouse, says it is connected to it, but the mouse doesn't 'work.' (A test on a separate system provided that the mouse can still work... and it is Mint 19 that is having the problem. The mouse worked under 18.0...

Re: [SOLVED] MInt 19 bluetooth problems

Just a note, as my BT mouse problem with Mint 19 is a little different. I have Bluz and Blueman installed. My mouse will alternately shows connected or not... but even when it shows connected, it doesn't work. It worked just find as of 18.3... but not now. There is more of a BT problem than a simple...

Text edit off-the-wall question

Is there a command I can issue to test for a value/condition in a text file and if the condition is met to alter the text. Here's an example. Scattered in 500+ files there are places where the phrase: So, is not followed by a [space] but some other character. However there are also places in those f...

Re: Bluetooth mouse not reconnecting after reboot

Just upgraded to 19 from 18.3 were everything was working. I have a Logictec M336/M337/M535 Bluetooth mouse. I tried using Blueman. I removed the device and reinstalled it and paired it. Blueman reports it is paired and connected but I get nothing from it. There is clearly an issue with BT in this r...

Mint 19 sees my BT Mouse but does not work with it

I just upgraded my Dell Vostro laptop from 18.3 to 19. The upgrade went without any problems. When I click on the BT icon on the taskbar (using the touchpad) it tells me it is connected to my Logictech BT mouse, but the BT mouse cannot move the cursor. (It worked fine in 18.3.) Rebooting doesn't hel...

Re: gnome-keyring-daemon hangs on shutdown

gnome-keyring manages SSH keys and I do use Secure Shell, so disabling it is a bad idea.

gnome-keyring-daemon hangs on shutdown

Five Mint 18.3 installs had a problem with the gmone-keyring hanging at shutdown. I fixed four of them after installing byobu and running purge-old-kernels . But on one unit the problem persisted. It was suggested I run: sudo gnome-keyring-daemon -r but that failed saying: ** Message: Could not find...

Re: "gnome-keyring-daemon not responding"

I am not using autostart. But I am for the first time, on two machines upgraded to 18.2, getting this message. In on machines A desktop and a laptop, there are multiple accounts and login is manual. What's the deal? How do I fix this?

Getting an Debian OS install of a drive I want to add to my LM 18.2 PC

My Linux Mint 18.2 PC is a happy camper, but I have a second HDD that I want to add to it.

Unfortunately it has a bootable Debian 9 install on it.

What's the best way to get the OS off that disk, format and mount it on my current system?

Re: "86_64" or "AMD64"?

Are you sure?

There was an Intel 64 bit chip that was used in some HP and IBM devices that were NOT compatible... Microsoft for a while supported that other fork but later abandoned it.

"86_64" or "AMD64"?

I am needing to install code from a UPS maker on my Linux Mint 64 bit 18.2 PC with an i7-Core Processor. There are two flavors for "Ubuntu" (deb file) installations. One is described as "for Linux Ubuntu x86_64" The other is described as "for Linux Ubuntu AMD64" When I used Debian in the past, the a...

Re: are there any native browsers that offer a 'compatibility mode'?

I have nothing laying around. Oh, I do rue the day I threw out my MS Windows 1.0 floppy disc installation way back when, but all I have has expired keys attacted to them. Old MSDN CDs and DVD that will no longer load, along with a long expired MSDN account. :-) And for the apparently rich individual...

are there any native browsers that offer a 'compatibility mode'?

I really don't want to run Wine and a virtual box to run a version of IE if I can find a browser with compatibility mode. I have a Linksys/Cisco managed 16 port gigabit switch which is controlled via GUI via a web interface. There are no cab files or scripts that get downloaded, but it wants Windows...

apt-get when I am away for a month

I know not to try an distro upgrade from the CLI, but how about just keeping the PC current? I am going to be on another continent for close to a month. Updates occur just about daily. I would love to jump in via the GUI, but will not have the ability remotely. I can get in with SSH2. Is there any p...

Solved Re: Two Acer computers totally fail to get past the install screen

It looks like it needed BOTH the DVD and compatibility mode.

It would not work with the USB in any mode. The DVD would not load in normal mode.

Tried the DVD in Compatibility mode and it got past the issue though it is in rendering mode and reports a video display problem.

Two Acer computers totally fail to get past the install screen

After shutting down an office I brought four computers home. Two are OEM's I built and two are Acer's. An Acer AM3470-UW10P and an AM3470G-UW10P. Both have older OS's on them. One has Debian 6.1 (with 8GB RAM) and the other a nine year old version of Windows 2008 Web Server (with 16GB RAM). Both the...
