Re: Dual boot - Uninstalling windows or mint?

Do yourself a big favor and turn off "Fast Startup" in the power options if you're using Win10. It's a check box that is populated by default and causes mounting issues that will ruin an otherwise fun evening of using Linux. You can run fsck until the cows come home and it will tell you everything'...

run the Live LM USB-stick or DVD and just do a
sudo grub-install /dev/sda to restore grub. You can also install and use the Boot Repair tool

Do you mean that LM as a live USB OS can edit the machine's grub without being installed on it? Wow! really?

Re: Dual boot - Uninstalling windows or mint?

@ Cicero86, ....... . . For a multi-boot system on an internal hard-drive, the last OS installed will take over control of the Boot Partition, either the MBR or EFI System(Boot) Partition. But because Windows does not read Linux files, Windows should be installed before Linux. For a Legacy BIOS mod...

Re: To start a mint local community, Do I have to be an expert?

You can take inspiration from other local communities: https://linuxmint.com/links.php. You'll find blogs, forums, mailinglists and IRC channels and more. Some have just a forum, others have gone all out. Just start with something you feel comfortable with and take it from there. If there is some a...

To start a mint local community, Do I have to be an expert?

Hi, I'm from Egypt and I've been using* (lightly) linux distros for 12 years now (intermittently). I like Mint and its spirit. Can I start an "official" Local Community for Egypt? I'm not an engineer or a programmer. But I know some of the basics of using/installing Mint and the concepts of open-sou...

Dual boot - Uninstalling windows or mint?

Hi, I have dual booted before but now I have a question; Here's the situation: I just got a new machine and I'm planning to have win 7 first (posting from it now) then linux mint and everything is ready for dual boot, I even freed up space on hard drive and made it "unallocated". But as you may know...

Re: Change login photo?

@Cicero86 Cosmo is correct of coarse--I should have indicated /home/username instead of saying your /home directory. Apologies for the confusion. Hey, not at all :) thanks for your answer :) I noticed that it differs from one theme to another. Some themes don't "read" the photo somehow.... But it's...

Re: Change login photo?

If you're using Cinnamon, go to Account Details and click on the picture to choose another one. Unfortunately, I'm not using Cinnamon. I'm starting to think about changing to the more common Cinnamon or MATE DE, Because xfce isn't that much different, except for it being uncommon/not so popular whi...

Re: Change login photo?

The login picture is a file in your /home directory named .face This file can be found by showing hidden files from the View tab in the toolbar or by Ctrl+h. If .face is not there yet you can rename an image to that and put it in your /home directory. I renamed a file and all is good but when I try...
