Re: bootable USB stick

Hi FreeBSD, It is possible - there are two ways: one is to create a live usb with persistence (the persistence provides an area for changes you make to be saved). The other is to actually install Mint on a usb stick. The latter is probably the better method particularly if you can use a larger capac...

Re: Occasional 'no internet connection' error but the connection is fine.[Resolved]

Hi jko, Good suggestion - something easily missed. Doesn't appear to be a problem there though. @sleeper12: I switched the two systems off as usual at the end of my sessions last night and then disconnected the router/modem from the mains. I left it for a minute two before before reconnecting. Presu...

Re: Occasional 'no internet connection' error but the connection is fine.

Hi sleeper12 and lsemmens, Thanks for your replies. I've not shut down the router/modem but restarting the computer gives the normal situation with the connection in operation as normal but, as I have said, when the error appears, it closes quite quickly. The error mainly appears after the computer ...

Occasional 'no internet connection' error but the connection is fine.[Resolved]

Hi, This is no big issue but a minor irritation and a mystery - Occasionally I get an error message to say that I have no internet connection although, when I check, the connection is fine. This happens on both my desktop computers (both run LM20.1 although the issue also occurred before I upgraded ...

Re: Resizing partitions on a dual boot machine

Hi Ken, As far as I am aware, if you clone your current system drive to another drive then the partitions on the new drive will replicate those on the original both in terms of contents and space used. That means you would have surplus space on the new drive which would be unallocated but could be u...

Re: SOLVED:Epson Perfection V370 scanner does not work in LM20.1

Hi Oldfielder,

Good news, your persistence has paid off. I suspect ipp-usb and sane-airscan did improve things after you install the correct scanner driver.

Re: Resizing partitions on a dual boot machine

Hi Ken, Obtaining and fitting a larger capacity drive is probably your best option. You'll need to consider getting getting either a usb adapter lead or external drive case to simplify the cloning procedure. The latter is probably the best bet as you would be able to insert the old drive after compl...

Re: Resizing partitions on a dual boot machine

Gparted should be able to do what you want but you should run it from bootable live media rather than the program in your Linux Mint installation. You have to be careful to make sure you are adjusting the correct partitions/drives. As always when carrying out major changes, backup important data fil...

Re: Epson Perfection V370 scanner does not work in LM20.1

If your printer/scanner is connected via a usb cable then the following may be useful: Problems with scanning using usb connected scanners or multi-function devices after ugrading to a Mint version 20 or higher, may be caused by inadequacies in the usb driver ippusbxd. If this is the case, ippusbxd ...

Re: Document scanner

Hi Steven, What is the make and model of your printer? You say that your connection is usb so the problem may be related to the usb driver. Similar problems have been solved by replacing ippusbxd with ipp-usb and also installing sane-airscan. Both ipp-usb and sane-airscan are available for download ...

Re: Tool bar has disappeared

Hi Peter, You seem to be a little confused by the instructions from Moem, rickNS and MrEen. Just paste either Moem's 'cinnamon-settings panel' into a terminal followed by 'dconf reset -f /org/cinnamon/' or follow rickNS's suggestion and paste 'gsettings reset-recursively org.cinnamon' into a termina...

Re: Printer-localhost Print jobs list

UPDATE This seems to have resolved itself but I don't understand how. Some half an hour after my attempts to clear the completed jobs list, I accessed Printers-localhost again to see if I had missed any options - I had a good look around the facility and found nothing specific for the task other tha...

Printer-localhost Print jobs list

Hi, I'm running Linux Mint 20 with a usb connected Canon TS5050 MFP. I had a minor hiccup when printing a page recently but managed to sort it. The original print stalled part way through - I waited a while in case the job restarted but after a longish wait it was still stalled so I pressed the appr...

Re: Why am I getting blue windows recovery screen on boot

Hi Singhathia,

Does the error occur if you disconnect the HDD?

Was the HDD used with your previous Windows installation?

What boot options are listed when you press 'Escape' after getting the blue screen?

Re: LibreOffice Base Limitation

Hi, I've given LibreOffice a good test. The key area for me was Base as operations undertaken by the other components in the office suite are adequately covered by software I have already installed. I was beginning to get somewhere with the principle of queries but this did not entirely satisfy my r...

Re: LibreOffice Base Limitation

Hi AZgl1500, Sad story - I wish you all well. LibreOffice is good but its Base component does not compare with Access in user friendliness and certainly lacks important capabilities in in form calculation. It's all very well saying Query can do the job but simple calculation across fields in a form ...
