Re: You can't watch this without a smile--

I grew up watching her antics Me too! They do not make comedy like this any more. Nope, they do not. Sorry, just doesn't appeal to my sense of humour. Prefer this type https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAG39jKi0lI LOL that was pretty good! Sorry, just doesn't appeal to my sense of humour. Prefer this...

Re: Firefox: Disturbing News

Well FF started pissing me off a long time ago anyway- I hadn't used it for years, and I'm not fixin' to go back to it as long as something else works reasonably well out there. I keep it installed in Mint on the family machine for my wife; and it's on her phone, but first thing I do with a distro o...

Re: How many distro's have you tried before and after coming to mint?

You can't beat Mint for reliability and consistency. Agreed! I cut my Linux teeth on Mint Cinnamon; but I have to admit that since my previous post in this thread I've been doing some more distro-hopping. Still think Mint Cinnamon is the gold standard for someone coming from Windows, and it's still...

Re: Internet breaks when run Update Manager (20.1) [SOLVED (sort of)]

Well it's a DSL gateway, so the router is the modem. And yes it was odd. All I can think of is that somehow I messed up the wifi connection package- but why it kicked itself the internet- while still maintaining a connection to the router- when trying to download updates, I have no idea. Moral of th...

Re: Internet breaks when run Update Manager (20.1)

What does this show: iwconfig && mokutil --sb-state I did that, and will post before & after outputs of that; and also an updated output from inxi -Fxxxrz I'm marking this as [SOLVED], although if you or someone else wants to try and take it apart to see what caused it, go for it. I see...

Internet breaks when run Update Manager (20.1) [SOLVED (sort of)]

From the 20.2 upgrade thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=2062051#p2062051 Well I tried to upgrade my ASRock homebrew system, and I borked it good. What forum should I post in, and what system info should I include? I got an APT error then things hung up- it was saying my info was o...

Re: Tea or Coffee?

Grandpa crumbled cornbread into buttermilk which I always considered vile…. Oh that's goooooood. Much better than 'sweet milk' & cornbread. I used to think buttermilk was vile but as I've gotten older, I'm starting to appreciate it. I like me some buttermilk and cornbread. I just cannot bring m...

Re: How to upgrade to Linux Mint 20.2

What forum should I post in, and what system info should I include? Given the ambiguity of cause, I would post in the Beginner Questions category, and include the output of inxi -Fxxxrz between [code]output-goes-here[/code] tags. Sounds like a plan- next time I'm on that machine I'll do that.

Well I tried to upgrade my ASRock homebrew system, and I borked it good. What forum should I post in, and what system info should I include? I got an APT error then things hung up- it was saying my info was out of date or something but since it was running synaptic it wouldn't update the repos when ...

Re: Tea or Coffee?

Sugar in GRITS?! Yeck. Cheese goes in grits, with a good dash of Tabasco. Maybe I meant cornbread, lol. Sugar should go in that only very, very, very sparingly. Cornbread ain't no dessert. But come to think of it, I think I do know someone who adds sugar to grits- I remember it being mildly controv...

Re: Linux mint is better than Windows 10

It was in with my Windows 7 OS. Thanks for replying, and ah well I was hoping it was some sort of firmware thing- every OS I have used on it since upping the RAM- Win 10, Mint, antiX, MX-Linux- the BIOS itself, for that matter- report all in the same ballpark of available RAM if I recall. I don't k...

I'm glad they are- I'd hate to have to boot to Windows just to scan something, it's irritating. I prefer to do my stuff in Linux as much as possible.

Re: Linux mint is better than Windows 10

I had a problem upgrading 3gb to 4gb ram on my motherboard. It was only stating about 3.2gb max. It turned out to be an out of date Intel integrated graphics driver. When I installed a newer version (the most up to date I could find) it reported the full 4gb of ram. Interesting! You have me curious...

Re: Which distro do you use as a daily driver?

Did you try MX Linux (Mephis AntiX Linux)? Maybe you will enjoy it, but imo mint is better. In fact I just recently tried it out on this Acer. Looks nice, and the Xfce DE is definitely more user friendly to me than antiX's default WM, but on the machine that antiX is the daily driver, it probably w...

Re: Hi! I'm Caprimont

Hello and welcome! I moved to Mint as my daily driver some years back and found it pretty easy to transition- I think it's just a matter of getting folks to dare to leave the Microsoft plantation. About my only issue that breaks the plug-and-play aspect would be getting a scanner going. My Brother a...

Re: i want a big display like 1360x768 without problem(?)

I find myself installing Mint to what it decides is the default resolution, then adjust the system fonts as needed, as described: System Settings -> Fonts and adjust sizes in there. Otherwise it seems as if it's more trouble than it's worth. I have poor eyesight, so on anything smaller than a 32&quo...

Re: Which distro do you use as a daily driver?

Mint Cinammon. I used another distros like Zorin or Ubuntu, but definitely i prefer Mint. I'm kinda hooked on Cinnamon- I take a perceptible performance hit on all my machines, that I use Mint Cinnamon on, compared to something more lightweight, but it's worth it to me. Tried Mint Xfce, meh. Tried ...
