Re: Oculus Rift support

Next to the fact that internal timings have been tightened, Oculus Rift now requires a fully operational DirectX11. Read as: no more DirectX9 or DirectX10 support or related dumbfiddlery formerly used to make it work under Linux.

Re: Steam not running on Mint 18 Cinnamon

Im sure ive probably missed something ... LM18 is offered as Beta and should not be seen (or used) as a fully functional 17.x replacement yet. It was merely released to allow further TESTING and get further FEEDBACK from users. Therefore you should report your problem after checking if it not alrea...

Re: Temes_LibreOffice

@Mikhail: There is nothing you can do. It appears to be a known bug of LibreOffice (from August 2015 at least). You can only check the Firefox Themes Website for valid Theme names and then enter those into the LibreOffice search box, click SEARCH, and hope the correct Theme is returned as one of th...

Re: Temes_LibreOffice

I think he is pointing out that the method shown in the videos (copy-pasting the complete URL) does NOT work, which I can confirm on LM17.3 KDE 64 with LibreOffice 5.0.3.2. One of the videos he links to looks as if it's from an older LO version as the GUI is different. At least for me, the group but...

Re: Back Up HD Questions

First of all Linux offers multiple choices when it comes to backup software, depending on which backup mode you prefer - we would have to know how and what you actually want the software to do. Coming to HDDs in general, there barely is a choice: WD, Samsung or Seagate. You stated that you had a fou...

Re: video playback in browser choppy and freezing

Fact is that the decade-old Flash tech is slowly being phased out and replaced by HTML5. While the HTML5 approach is far more secure and offers other features, it puts an even larger load on the local CPU/GPU combo. Which means: systems which were barely able to display 1080p Flash are often not abl...

Re: Please keep Picasa on Mint 18

Google discontinued Linux support of Picasa in 2012 and cut Win/Mac support in March 2016. Picasa Web Albums shuttered on May 1st 2016. Google made clear more than once that they will not release the Picasa source code; people should "use Google Photos" instead. End of story. Enjoy Picasa as long as...

Re: Video acceleration free driver

Hold in mind that the HD 3850 AGP - contrary to its marketing - had a long standing history of not being able to correctly display 1080p under Windows when the CPU was in the 2.3 to 2.6 GHz range; it jittered, lagged like hell or crashed the system (especially when the VGA was an OEM/third party bra...

Re: Installed Linux Mint but lagging

@InvictusLatinus: I'm a newbie myself and still trying to get a hold on things, but I would first of all simply assume that the 2GHz CPU (or included GPU) is struggling with Cinnamon/GTK3. Does the situation improve if you use a live DVD with either a MATE or XFCE desktop? I can understand that you...

Re: How do I install printer driver from tgz file.

@Flemur: No, there are no instructions in the file - it's a package containing the RPM files for Canon Pixma 3300/4300 and MP510/600. As far as I understand, he has to unpack the stuff, identify the correct RPM file for his printer, create a DEB from it, and use that to install the printer. Those i...
