LinuxMint on SBC x86/x86_64 for Media players.

As we all know Linux Mint supports x86/x86_64, and not ARM. That said. let's list some "affordable" SBC's that work with LinuxMint as an HTPC, mini-ITX sizes included: (x264/x265 8/10-bit, vp8/vp9, 1080p@60 great, 4K@30Hz ... ok). 1.) Any of the mini-ITX Intel Apollo/Gemini Lake series MB's works gr...

Re: SATA controller card insanity

If this were a Windows machine, I would not be having these issues. and yet, you yourself declared in earlier posts that those drives and/or sata-controller also failed in Windows as well. So, this is not a Windows or Linux issue afterall. Did you re-seat your (older) sata controller card, and/or t...

helped a friend setup up their HP 3630 Inkjet for usb/wireless printing, scanning, ..., and @xenopeek apt purge ippusbxd ...followed by a reboot, and that did the trick, thanks. Re: 5 Reasons Why Linux Mint is Better Than Ubuntu

Mint's creation of the Cinnamon Desktop, as well as for bringing Mate/(previously Gnome2) back into the limelight, instead of those dark days of that ugly GNOME/3 sHELL. I think Ubuntu fixed the ugly in Gnome Shell now, well the community did. :) Some years ago, when I nearly lost my sight, Gnome S...

Is there a flavor that Linux likes over all the others? I have a PCI1 slot open and a PCIEX4 slot open. ... So, if you had to pick a Sata Controller, which one would you pick? Cheers! Yes, the "LSI Internal SATA/SAS 9211-4i" is a dependable pick. https://www.newegg.com/lsi00190-sata-sas/p/N82E16816...

Fixed: Brother (older) all-in-one USB Laser Printer\Scanner in LM20

In (64-bit) LinuxMint 17, 18, and 19 I had no problems scanning. OS: LinuxMint 20 64-bit Mine is an older Brother (USB-only) Printer Model: DCP7020, but this should also work for the multitude of other older Brother (USB) DCP****, and MFC**** printers. Re: Nvidia and Linux Mint 20

In an uptodate LM 20, via Driver Manager, use the Nvidia (recommended) driver, (non-server) one.
reboot,
Failing that, try:
https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/nvidia.html
and always choose the latest driver with the ubuntu *-1 driver.
In all cases, reboot afterwards.

LinuxMint 20: efibootmgr missing from installation iso ?

I noticed that the "efibootmgr" cli utility is missing from LM20's distribution iso's.
Please re-add this back into future LinuxMint iso builds.

Thanks.

Re: Intermittent problem - can't rename files in Caja

Yes, i've randomly experienced the same file renaming bugs/issues in Caja as you have. The only quick solution for me was, once I renamed the file, (via F2, or right-clicking on it), I then just hit the " Reload the current location " button on Caja's "Main Toolbar" menu, or, from the "View" -> "Rel...

Minimized apps on taskbar won't maximize again ?

Every now and then, (on Mate 19.*), I'll minimize a GUI-app from my Desktop onto the taskbar, but then it will NOT even maximize again.? It just sits there highlighted in bold, locked on the taskbar, doing nothing. I end up having no choice but to right-click on it on the taskbar and close it, and s...

Re: Change default location for flatpaks

Flatpak is by default stored in the root filesystem and Flatpaks can often get BIG in filesize. This causes problem for all of us that have the root filesystem on a separate partition. From early days this partition is usually allocated limited diskspace. I would like an easy parameter switch in co...
