Re: Mint with Windows Boot Mgr

along with what @Flemur said, https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/mint-install this may help explain what the "install mint 18.* alongside Windows" actually does, along with the few pre/initial steps that you must do. Let Linux handle, via grub, the dual-booting, imho. just to go out ...

Re: second CD reported epmty

I have found with all the distro's that I've tried, so far, all of my (external) usb CD/DVD/... drives must be ejected cleanly, via "software eject" when available. Just don't use manual eject, It's not Windows afterall, and any deeper explanations, would require getting into some rather unfamiliar ...

I really hope the Theme portion will be addressed in the 19.xx series. I'm a dark theme lover and the dark is ok but needs to be more polished. The icons in the task bar looks horrible, dont match with nothing and the green with the dark theme is just horrible. Thats my thoughts...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

No danger with the T's - Tara no problem, then Tereza...? maybe Tusnelda...??? I'm really scared about the U's! Just the names: Ulla! Umma! pretty sure Ursula... These are the real concerns of a heroic 32-bitter! " Uma " Thurman, (of the Kill Bill, and Pulp Fiction days), would also be a very nice ...

Re: Mint-y theme and icons

also, for Mate,
it would be nice to have a Mint-Y-Dark-Aqua/Blue/... themes, similar to the more popular Mint-X-(Color) Themes.
Although, customizing the existing mint-y-dark can get fairly close to what I want, but still, I'm not a fan of the mint-y-flat/squared icons.

Live Mint/(Ubuntu) CD/DVD iso customization tool:JLIVECD

https://neurobin.org/projects/softwares/unix/JLIVECD/ It worked great with 18.3 in (u)efi, or (mbr)legacy. (Take your time, and RTFM, it'll all make sense as you go along, be it gui, or cli.). You can pre-add any apps, and/or ppa's that you may need in your custom Mint iso. (BUT, initially during is...

Re: Older computers

generally, as @catweazel said, if it's a 32-bit CPU/system then ....? That said, and either way, Mate is also not as light as it used to be, no thanks to Gnome3-ishness, and same will be for XFCE soon. Whereas, KDE/Plazma could actually be better, but... oops, nevermind, since Mint is dropping KDE/P...

Re: Upgrade Mint 17.3 to Mint 18.3 possible?

Yes, 17.3 to 18.3 is possible, as mentioned instructionally in other links in this thread.
I did it for a friend, using only Teamviewer.
I ended up with an 18.0 first, and from there, it's a simple post-upgrade to 18.3
In other words, reboot first, and ask questions later.

Re: Installing LM 18.1 Alongside other OS's on same disk?

Understood. I believe what you're saying is, the "Install Alongside" option limits its destination to only the last-available physical device (e.g., sdc), rather than providing further options for choosing which physical device you'd like to install to (e.g., sda, or sdb, or sdc). Correct? Joe Bing...

Hi @gpshumway and others: I hate to necro bump this, but, how has your luck been with Minty and the J3544?. I sure hope Mint 18.3 (Mate) will boot/install OOTB with the J3544-ITX (Apollo Lake) series' systems, and although it should, I've also read horror-stories where Ubuntu +17.10 has actually cau...

[SOLVED] Are Linux Mint (Main Sonya) Pkg Mirrors down ?!

Hi, Can't connect to Main Linux Mint package Mirrors, nor any of the alternative ones in Update Manager, ... even ones in diffrerent coutries. That is, it connects, and I can see them, but craps out and hangs on retrieving anything "0%" fetched, same errors with apt-get update. ...and of course, it ...

Re: [Fix]:Stuck at "grub>" gpt/efi Win10/LM18 dual-boot

You would have had the same issue with a MBR/BIOS boot. As previously mentioned, the last OS installed takes over the initial boot process. In your case it was Ubuntu. What you should have done before removing Ubuntu was boot into Mint Linux then issue these commands. sudo grub-install /dev/sda5 (T...
