Re: LM19: software manager asks password several times

Hi. No, the computer was brand new, there has been NO previous Linux install on it.
I did a standard install, not something custom.

Edit : I had forgotten to type the 'NO' in the line above.

Define "just installed".
Yesterday evening. Only changes made to the OS were updates using the Update Manager and installing new programs using the Software Manager.

LM19: software manager asks password several times

hello. I just installed LM 19 Cinnamon. When I install software using the software manager, for each software, it asks several times my password, not because I mistype it, but for some other reason. For as single software, it asked me to type my password up to 8 times ! For a couple of these softwar...

Re: Dual-boot Windows 10: cannot boot latest LM but only older versions

Ok. I found the answer with the help of the French LM Forum : - so disable Fast Boot and Secure Boot. - resize partition in Windows to make space for LM. - boot from Live USB after editing the GRUB. I tried the following : - with *acpi=off* : boots with low-resolution display (800x600) - with *nomod...

Re: Dual-boot Windows 10: cannot boot latest LM but only older versions

Hi. Thanks for the explanation. Rather than installing another distro, I'd rather try installing a version of LM with a newer kernel. Questions : - How (where) did you check support for processor by the kernel, so I can make sure which kernel versions would support it ? - Is there a way to install a...

Re: Dual-boot Windows 10: cannot boot latest LM but only older versions

FYI, after a quick test : LMDE 3 Cinnamon works fine from Live USB without having to tinker anything like ACPI (except the display is in 800 x 600 like Xubuntu 16.04) .

Re: Dual-boot Windows 10: cannot boot latest LM but only older versions

I got something ! Somebody pointed at these two threads : 18.04LTS - MSI GE63 - Boot issues How to install ubuntu on MSI GE63 without 'acpi=off' So I did what was advised in the first thread : I updated the BIOS to the latest version .. and it changed nothing. :( Then I tried the tip of the second t...

Re: Dual-boot Windows 10: cannot boot latest LM but only older versions

Fast Startup in Win 10 is disabled by going to >Control Panel >Power options. In BIOS Setup, the Boot Menu will display a list of boot devices. To boot the Live Linux USB in UEFI install mode, select and set the UEFI USB as the 1st boot device, and not just select USB. Selecting just USB will boot ...

Re: Dual-boot Windows 10: cannot boot latest LM but only older versions

Have you disable Fast Startup in Win 10.? I believe that is the Fast Boot setting that I have disabled, yes. Did you boot the latest Live Linux USB in UEFI mode via the Boot Menu of BIOS Setup.? It was the latest LM Live USB, yes (downloaded the day before), with the Boot mode in UEFI, yes. Still, ...

[Solved] Dual-boot Windows 10: cannot boot latest LM but only older versions

Hello. I have received a MSI GS65 8RE-052FR Stealth Thin laptop that comes with Windows 10 enterprise pre-installed (I was previously working with Windows 7). I am trying to install a dual-boot with LM 19 Cinnamon. I have already partitioned the hard drive to make some space for LM. Next step is try...

Actually, rather than a service, it's a script that I need to run.

Order between fstab/crypttab and systemd

Hello.

I would like to know in which order are processed the mounting of drives in fstab/crypttab and the services in systemd at system booot ?

I have a "one-shot" service that I would to run before the drives in fstab/crypttab are mounted.

If you have enough space now you deleted old kernels, try to install also the latest kernel properly.

Re: crypted hard-disk : /boot partition full so cannot update kernel

Hi.

This seems to be a quite well-known problem with installs of Ubuntu with LVM or encrypted hard disks.
I eventually found the solution at the bottom of this page.

Re: [Solved] Boot partition is full

Hello.

I tried the script because I have a similar problem (boot partition 100% full), but it seems it does not work .. because the partition is so full that it cannot event purge the old kernels.
