Re: Unwanted notifications (ads)

I still have these notification ads, despite the previous taken measures. And they also open when Firefox is closed.
I clicked a couple of them to see where they would send me and it was Reddit.

I highly recommend you install the following add-ons to your browser. uBlock Origin, HTTPSeverywhere, Google Container, Ads Blocker for Facebook.
Hi. I already used some of them. Didn't know about Google Container, though. I am giving it a try. Thanks.

Re: Unwanted notifications (ads)

Seems like it's coming from your browser. Which one are you using? That seems the most likely hypothesis. I haven't thought about it. I use Firefox and most certainly the add-ons are to be incriminated. I use several of them. I just disabled a couple of them (video downloaders - most likely to be t...

Unwanted notifications (ads)

Hello. I used LM 19.1 Cinnamon and I have unwanted notifications showing up from time to time (they look like commercial ads, or results from sports) - basically things I don't want and never asked for. I cannot see any installed program that would be responsible for this. How can I know from which ...

Re: [Solved] Dropbox not working any more on Cinnamon ext4

There is a new workaround : https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/11/h ... -ext4.html
It worked for me with LM 18 XFCE and LMDE 3.

Encrypting home folder with eCryptfs

I found out what I needed and it has nothing to do with Calamares. I simply need to run the ecryptfs-migrate-home tool to encrypt my home folder. Documentation & tutorials :https://www.lifewire.com/should-you-encrypt-home-folder-2202069 The last step that was difficult to work out was obtaining the ...

Re: using Calamares for encryption : where is it ?

I believe I had to install it first. From the terminal: sudo apt install calamares calamares Yes, indeed. Actually, I found out that the version of the iso image of LMDE that was using worked this way (you must install first Calamares in the live session) but that the latest version of LMDE does in...

[Solved] Encrypting home folder with eCryptfs

Hello to all. I am trying to install LMDE 3 Cinnamon (this part works fine and out-of-the-box) but with home encryption, or if not available, full-disk encryption. The LMDE 3 release notes state that "An alternative installer, called Calamares, is available in the application menu. This installer pr...

Re: Dropbox not working any more on Cinnamon ext4

I found the (new) workaround :

it seems that Dropbox considers all user folders inside /home to be encrypted.

So I created a /home-unecrypted/my_username folder and moved the Dropbox folder there and it works now.

Re: Dropbox not working any more on Cinnamon ext4

The symlink is on an encrypted filesystem. Yes, but the symlink is only used by the human user (me) to access the folder, not by Dropbox itself: the folder has been moved or so it should be. I am trying to check out if this is indeed the case. But I cannot find in which config file the Dropbox fold...

Re: Dropbox not working any more on Cinnamon ext4

Hello Redlined and thanks for answering. Dropbox also stopped working on computer A this morning with the same symptoms, , so 24h after computer B. I guess it had nothing to do with a difference between systems after all. On both systems, the Dropbox folder was originally in /home/(username)/Dropbox...

I just tried installing the latest .deb version from Dropbox's web site (2018.11.28) : not a change.

[Solved] Dropbox not working any more on Cinnamon ext4

Hello to all. Like many other users I have been notified for a long time that Dropbox was not going to work any more except on ext4 file systems. I use several computers: - Computer A runs LM 18.2 XFCE with an encrypted home on an ext4 filesystem. The relevant installed packages are dropbox and thun...

Re: Add keyboard shortcut for Enter

Thanks for your help. This sounds like a good option .. except I cannot see any Scoll lock key on my keyboard. The laptop is a MSI GS65 8RE-052FR Stealth Thin . Ideally, I would liek to map it to the right Shift key that is right below the Enter key. Otherwise, the $ key. Is there a list of the vari...

Add keyboard shortcut for Enter

Hello. I have a problem with the keyboard of my MSI laptop running LM 19: the Enter key does not work any more. It will go to customer service and repair and in the meantime I am using an USB keyboard. But before it is fixed, I have a couple of trips to do with this laptop. Hence, I would like to ma...

Re: LM19: software manager asks password several times

Hi. No, the computer was brand new, there has been NO previous Linux install on it.
I did a standard install, not something custom.

Edit : I had forgotten to type the 'NO' in the line above.

Define "just installed".
Yesterday evening. Only changes made to the OS were updates using the Update Manager and installing new programs using the Software Manager.
