Re: Linux Mint 19.3 Won't Boot After Restoring to New SSD
Might need to edit the fstab and/or reinstall grub to reflect the ID of the new drive.

Re: PC powers off randomly
Well, I just swapped out the psu. With the old one out, I plugged in a tester and powered it on, all rails were good, but fan was barely turning. So it was probably the psu over heating and shutting off. Will see what happens after a few weeks and see if it fixed it.

Re: PC powers off randomly
Ram has been tested in memtest, one stick at a time and both passed, cpu temps are an average 70*F idle, nvidia card is running about 102*F. Everything seems to be normal, so it most likely is the power supply going out.

PC powers off randomly
Here lately my pc has been turning off randomly, it's most likely a power supply issue, but is there a log that I can look at to see if there is any other issue? System Info System: Kernel: 5.15.0-52-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 11.2.0 Desktop: Xfce 4.16.0 tk: Gtk 3.24.23 info: xfce4-pan...

Re: Same Firefox profile on multiple machines?
When you copy a profile and you get the warning about using an older version of Firefox, you can run a command to force firefox to downgrade. When you copy the old profile over and get the warning, hit cancel and do not create a new profile. Firefox will exit, next open a terminal session and run th...

using sudo should always ask for a password, unless you are still in a term window where you have already entered the su password.

Re: C++ Error with Photoshop using WINE
I could never get Photoshop to run under wine, so I just created a VM and ran it from there. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but IMO, that is the best way to go.

Re: Linux Mint 20.2 Samsung Android Device MTP
I have a Galaxy S9 with Android 10, my DE is Mint 20.2 XFCE. I plug phone to pc, open file manager and click on "Samsung Android". After that, I get a pop up on the phone to allow access, click "Allow" and phone gets mounted. Don't know what the difference would be between Androi...

Re: Off to a bad start with Mint Cinnamon
Could be a hardware issue or a bad download of the iso. Re-download the iso and verify the checksums. I know this has been mentioned, but try another usb creator. I have recently started using Ventoy and it has worked perfectly on linux and windows 10. Depending on how old your hardware is, might ha...

Re: how to join a Windows network?
I still haven't been able to access any Win machine from LM. Like has been said, you need to find the name of the pc you want to connect to. Ex. On my network, I have a pc named "brandon-pc" and on that pc I have a shared folder called "shared". On my linux pc, I type in smb://b...

Re: Going to have to Remove linux mint
If you can boot and run Mint from a USB without issue, then it could be a hardware issue. You could also have a corrupt iso on the usb, did you check the hash of the iso you downloaded?

Re: Hey, thanks for nothing
Seems OP is not giving the full details and could be user error. I always plan on something going wrong and take required actions before doing anything, I learned that lesson the hard way after loosing everything. I have my "Home" on a separate drive, plus I rsync that to a separate drive....

Re: Tooltip on notification area shows at bottom [SOLVED]
Here's another solution. Go to panel preferences, click the Items tab, select Notification Area and choose edit. From there, adjust the icon up a few pixels until the tooltip starts showing above. I have my row size at 42 and initially the icons were at 32, so I increased them to 35 and tooltips sta...

Re: 19.3 Tricia Failed Suddenly! XFCE Now Looks Like Faulty GNOME / Pantheon
Boot from a Live USB, start gparted and run a full check on your partitions. Make sure it's not a failing disk. Agreed. I had exactly the same issues not long ago, of course a fresh install would fix it temporarily, the issues came back. So I did a RAM test and HHD test, the HDD had many errors. Re...

Re: Warning, Mint 20 upgrade
Yeah, the Delete Foreign packages option should be removed from the guide. I, as well, have updated Mint several times without a hitch, but this guide rendered my system useless. I have my "/home" on a separate drive and keep Apache and SAMBA backed up, so a clean install wasn't much of a ...

Re: Shutdown problems - Failed to wait for process: Protocol error
Just started getting this error message after a clean install of LM 20 XFCE. So looking over these posts, it does seem to be an issue with finalrd. final runtime directory for shutdown Generates a systemd compatible shutdown runtime directory. This enables to execute scripts and binaries to clean up...

Ubuntu was ported over to some devices, with full phone capabilities. I tried it out on my Oneplus One and it worked pretty good. Kinda a PITA to get all set up though, but cool non the less.Peter Linu wrote: ⤴Wed Feb 05, 2020 1:02 am Apparently Android is built on Linux. Re: Is it time for me to upgrade my old PC?
Don't recall when I built this tower, but it's been some time back, maybe 15 yrs or more. This pc ran LM Cinnamon fine when I tried it out, just don't like how Cinnamon looks, so didn't keep it. I run XFCE and have for years now. MB- ASRock N68C-GS FX Video- Nvidia 9600 GT CPU- AMD Athlon II X2 Ram-...
