Re: Hidden dualboot

why not install Linux onto a external drive and just plug it when you use it and keep drive with you. that way your data is safe and no sign of Linux on his system. This. Much as I want to object based on past experience, those reasons are likely rendered obsolete by modern technology (in other wor...

Re: C:\Program Files in Mint 17.3

guess a better question would be

are these safe?

dpkg --get-selections | grep -v deinstall

dpkg --get-selections | grep postgres

dpkg --get-selections | grep -v deinstall > ~/Desktop/packages

dpkg -l

iv read many times never to do a command what you don't know what it does.

Re: C:\Program Files in Mint 17.3

that means you need to know each of their names? what about programs not listed in the menus?
- is there a command to list every installed program?
like for example tor isn't listed in menus and installed.

Re: how bad is this hdd ?

benchmark it to see its speeds?
The internal hdd in my desktop with my windows install and data partitions is slower than my usb with my Linux distros on.
that said a 120gb ssd is cheaper faster and bigger.

Re: USB 2.0 on KDE 17.3 only doing 1 MiB/s max

we talking torrent or intact file here?
4k write/read speeds are awful on usb 2.0 sequential speeds larger files cap out at 30mb(max) read/write.

I use USB 3.0 and torrent speeds are fine I have noticed system lag though used to happen in utorrent years ago cant remember what the windows fix was.

Re: Problem mounting USB

stab in the dark but is it a sandisk extreme? if so it might be a 2013 model and be a local disk i got a couple of them

if not assign it a drive letter see if that helps, unsure on Linux way but in windows its in disk management then just right click drive and select assign.
