Re: When for FF 66.0.4?

Mint is dropping the ball a bit with this one . I've had 66.04 since sunday on my Manjaro install , think I'll go manual on my Mint install .

Re: Want Mint 19 but still want KDE? Have 18.3 KDE installed? Read on!

It's a pity that Mint devs decided to drop Plasma 5. :( Currently, it is the best DE in the Linux world. Now that I've had some time to settle into Cinnamon I have to agree. I already miss KDE's flow and features. Plasma is just gorgeous. After reading a lot of threads about going to KDE I've decid...

Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!

I was a happy camper for many years running Mint KDE on my laptop (main workhorse). Since Mint dropped KDE, I made the switch to Kubuntu about a month ago. Well, I am NOT happy with it as: a) It takes about 2-3 times longer to startup than Mint KDE b) It uses quite a bit more resources to run Digik...

Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!

Another vote for Manjaro KDE. Though I wouldn't recommend it for complete novices, it's a well polished operating system, has a nice installer & the AUR is quite a treasure trove, even if there is undoubtedly some cruft in there. I'm going to try it on one of my other netbooks once I've f...

Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!

So what is the verdict in here? What is most of you have replaced Mint's KDE with? I have replaced it with Kubuntu in my case. Manjaro KDE for me , going in to my 3rd year with various flavors of Manjaro on my hdd , 1st year as my main OS though . Couldn't be happier with it , I'll play but won't g...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I have a question, but I'll start with some thoughts. A number of the better KDE distros have been suggested as alternatives. Some observations I didn't see mentioned: Debian Stable : The best distro I ever used was an experiment by a maintainer called Kwheezy. It was KDE on Debian Stable, fully lo...

I have installed X- and K- ubuntu 18.04 on which LM 19 is based without a bootloader by runningubiquity -b in a terminal.
Thank you , I installed the LM19 Mate beta using this . Worked perfectly , used the Manjaro grub to boot in , no issues at all .

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

as far as Virtualbox no problem . You need to install the host and guest modules for the Kernel you're running seperately . Go in to Octopi and search for virtualbox and scroll through the results and you'll see them listed , install them , reboot and Manjaro will add the modules to the kernel and ...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I think they are referring to the "common belief" that ubuntu users are "the windows users who came to linux" or "the ones who can't handle a real distro" etc. Ubuntu also is the most popular and most widely supported via 3rd parties (ie almost everyone provides a .deb package if they provide a lin...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I've been giving Manjaro a spin on my Acer D255E since I installed it late Friday night. Set up with a separate /DATA partition, containing a (fairly) recent backup of the LM17.3 KDE /home partition, brought it up to date last night. Quite impressed with it so far although there's a few teething pr...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I read that thread I did, too, out of curiosity. Thank you for posting the link. I offer my thanks not because it provided information that I desperately needed or suchlike but, instead, because the next time I post a question (anywhere) and receive an answer that is somewhat less than comparable t...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I read that thread , you were told which package to install which was everything you needed I did install the package, I did read the documentation, I did solve the problem... but my feeling for how helpful they were - whether you and they like it or not - is that they were not even close to the he...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

Plasma 5.13... ...Neon user edition As a general rule I stay as far away from "bleeding edge" as I can, but I think this is where I'm headed next (or maybe stay with Kubuntu). I have seriously backed away from Manjaro. One of the reasons is the issue with Grub; another is the differences in Arch-Li...

Plasma 5.13 what can I say? Both beautiful and fast!!! So sad Mint decided to drop KDE but Neon user edition has made a fine replacement!
I won't see 5.13 as quick as you did on Neon , but I'll see it soon enough on Manjaro , and yup it's a shame Mint dropped the ball on KDE .

Re: DE or Distro with REAL scrollbars

Change the gtk theme. On my phone right now so cant tell you where but think it's under the "themes" icon in settings. Adwaita is the gnome theme with disappearing scroll bars. Not sure the theme dialog says "gtk theme" might be something like "application " theme. Fyi, this is not an attribute of ...

Re: DE or Distro with REAL scrollbars

I've been using Mint Cinnamon for several years, and mostly have no reason to change, except that I have grown to really despise the stupid gnome disappearing scrollbars. They disrupt my workflow and just plain drive me mad. QUESTION: Just what problem were these things supposed to solve? Can someo...
