Re: how to enter on "graphical compatibility mode"

The video really doesn't tell much. What video card? What driver did you install? From recovery, you can boot to command line and hopefully just go back to the drivers that work.

Re: Have decided on Mint, version question

I'm at 4.4.0-31 and still unresponsive. I checked another usb keyboard and it works fine. So definitely the keyboard. So it worked in 17.3 but not now. Maybe a cinnamon 3 issue? Edit: I guess that is not the best diagnoses because that was on a different computer. This could be motherboard drivers a...

Re: Have decided on Mint, version question

Maybe it's a USB 3.0 issue. Are there any dangers with updating the kernel?

Re: Have decided on Mint, version question

How do I use suspend to ram? I've been just using power management to enable suspend. I found last night that switching to a ps/2 keyboard allowed me to enter suspend and come out with a working keyboard. This is the error that I believe is associated with the problem: usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed: -...

Re: Keyboard unresponisive after wake from Suspend/Hibernate LM18

Just wanted to do an update for this I found out what was causing the keyboard problems on wake from suspend. It was the keyboard I think. Right now I'm typing this on an IBM Model M and I can type after resuming. This is the error I think that causes the problem. usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed: -1 I'l...

Re: Have decided on Mint, version question

Thanks for all the great advice. I basically took everyone's advice. I am keeping 17.3 on my daughter's computer(my old one) and the transition for her was seamless. I found some inexpensive but great games on Steam so she is happy. It works perfectly so why change it? For the new one I installed LM...

Keyboard unresponisive after wake from Suspend/Hibernate LM18

Hello, new user here. Everything is so perfect with Mint 18 except my keyboard doesn't work after wake from suspend or hibernate. Mouse works, I can switch users but cannot log back in. My keyboard worked perfectly in LM 17.3. I found and tried a Ubuntu fix that involved editing default/grub and it ...

AMD R9 380 vs my old nVidia 650 ti

Going to set up my old computer with linux for my daughter. After doing some reading I see that the open AMD drivers seem hopeful however I'm wondering would I get less headaches using the 650 ti? Seems dumb but I don't know.

Have decided on Mint, version question

Hey everyone, First my history. After many years of using Windows(since 1997), I have decided to drop it and go purely Linux. The reasons for this are many but the greatest is purely, I want owner-ship over my PC and feel that with Windows 8 and now 10 this is impossible. I choose freedom and honest...
