Re: OpenVPN with NordVPN has DNS leak

Sometimes I wonder: If NordVPN donated money to Linux Mint like PIA did, maybe there would also be a NordVPN application...

nginx server: best OS?

Hello, I'm installing nginx but I've never used it before. I'll be running Wordpress on it. Have you guys ever used nginx? I'm wondering what's the best operating system for nginx? I'm looking at CentOS 6 or 7, but I don't know what the differences are in terms of using nginx. There's actually not t...

Re: WHITE RABBIT: And when it comes to that fantastic bit where the rabbit bites its own head off

Dude that's hilarious. Maybe they saw it coming, and played Louie Louie just for you. I played around Nashville in 2010 and met a few bands who did White Rabbit. I've seen a lot of people attempt that song, but nobody hits it like grace! Everybody knows it, you weren't alone. Hey, also lusting after...

Mint is a great operating system. Do you know whether you're using Cinnamon desktop? What kind of system do you have?

Re: I think I'm done with Gmail. Maybe I'm even ready to pay for email?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. After reading various ToS I've decided to host a custom domain with Protonmail.

See you in Hell, Google!

I think I'm done with Gmail. Maybe I'm even ready to pay for email?

Hi folks, I was thinking about email today and that maybe it's time to let go of Gmail. What if there was a Google agent who stood by your mailbox on the sidewalk, and offered to read your mail for you, and send copies of it back to Google? I'd most certainly tell that guy where to go. Just because ...

Re: Dual boot without GRUB by selecting drive from the boot menu

So I just installed LMDE 2 and it offered me the option not to install grub; however, the installation videos and tutorials recommended I leave the option checked to install grub, and in the installation window it advised me grub loads the linux kernel. So I left it checked. And now I see the ugly o...

Re: Dual boot without GRUB by selecting drive from the boot menu

Another thing, you will have to disable os-prober, otherwise next time grub gets updated it will find your windows and propose a menu entry for it (and show the grub menu instead of directly booting linux). Simplest thing is to make the script not executable : sudo chmod -x /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober...

Can you foresee any possible negative consequences from using this method for dualboot?

Thanks Mattybaby

I thought it would be something that easy. That means there's a MBR on both drives, right?

Re: Without a Driver Manager, does LMDE "use" my Nvidia graphics card?

I do not need the latest driver, but the instructions in Debian's Nvidia section seem to give me an even newer driver than what's available to Mint... not that it matters to me, since I only want a driver, with no requirement other than the fact I'll be using Nvidia drivers after the process. I'm on...

Dual boot without GRUB by selecting drive from the boot menu

Hello, I have two hard drives in a PC that requires a dualboot setup for Mint and Windows 10. I like the idea of selecting my OS based on which drive I boot to, rather than using Grub to manage my OS choice. It just makes better sense to me, especially since I use Windows so little anyway. The other...

Cool! I'm really glad to hear that. And yeah, I've played the game on every platform I have, and it seems to run on everything.

Tau Station: a text-based, science-fiction MMORPG that runs in Firefox

This is a bit of a departure from the normal tech-support type of threads found in this section, but I'd like to share the only game I currently play on Linux, a game I feel that is really quite good and could be enjoyed by many non-gamers who use Linux Mint, happen to enjoy science fiction, or just...

Re: Without a Driver Manager, does LMDE "use" my Nvidia graphics card?

Hey dudes. Thanks for the answers. Very helpful! To answer your question, Kevin, I got screen-tearing on this PC even with the appropriate driver, but I think switching a Compton setting fixed that. Without using any proprietary drivers on my laptop, however, I live with permanent screen-tearing (ne...

Without a Driver Manager, does LMDE "use" my Nvidia graphics card?

Hello, I have a GTX 770 on my desktop PC, and - although I don't play games on this PC - I've been using Mint Xfce 18.3 as the main OS, simply because it has a driver manager that lets me upgrade to the latest graphics driver provided by Nvidia, and LMDE does not. I know my graphics card works, beca...
