Creating full system images for reproduction on new systems

Hi everyone! I have three computers that I want to be able to reproduce. I have been building and configuring Mint installations suited to a single specific purpose, on those little Dell Wyse 5070s. My intention is to just keep buying these little computers and deploying the same installations, cron...

Re: Question about instructions for moving from LMDE6 beta to release edition

I understand what they're for, I just noticed that it's minimal and specific to youtube-dl. I don't know why I thought the beta version would be very much different from an official release, but also I'm pleasantly surprised that it's not, because I have my set up looking pretty fresh and I'm happy ...

Question about instructions for moving from LMDE6 beta to release edition

Something I noticed in the LMDE6 beta test period that I thought was awesome is the inclusion of youtube-dl, or its modern iteration, yt-dlp, since youtube-dl was abandoned. What's also neat is the release notes say if we installed the beta we don't have to uninstall, and it looks like we're automat...

Help with computer freezing / black screen after long uptime?

Hey guys, I am working on a project I refer to as my TV project. The project is to create TV channels, which has gone well enough for a while, but with the computers I'm working with I invariably encounter the issue of frozen picture (with no audio), and also I have found that sometimes the picture ...

Any TempleOS-inspired distros out there?

Say what you will about its mentally unsound creator Terry Davis - he was disturbed in so many ways - but everyone can admit his unique distribution, TempleOS, was inspired. (I learned it is also not linux based) I have never gone through the installation myself, because I have seen enough footage t...

software update from the command line

Hello, I've been connecting via ssh to a Mint Xfce (latest edition). I'm able to get around well enough but I've never updated Mint through the command line. When I run the regular sudo apt-get update that works for the regular software, but sometimes I log in and I am met with a screen telling me t...

File sharing between Linux Mint and Windows 10

Someone on reddit recommended NitroShare for this purpose (I assume since it runs on both linux and windows).

I see that Mint 20 comes with Warpinator. Do I need to do any extra setup on the Windows machine to get Warpinator for Mint to share files to/from Windows?

Re: Minecraft wont open and I dont know what to do with a .tar.gz file

My rule of thumb is to stay with 19.3. Previously, i stayed with 18.3 until 19.3 came out. The x.3 releases tend to be more mature and stable, as most of the bugs introduced in the 20.x iteration of the OS will be smoothed out. Eventually, 20.3 could be the superior release to 19.3 assuming all othe...

Re: Gaming on Linux Mint 20

I keep Mint on a decent laptop, but I have to keep the gaming relatively light, because 3D starts pushing the PC hardware to its limits Games I play (all on linux mint): Steam games Stardew Valley Rimworld Retro City Rampage Super Nintendo games mainly Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, and a few ra...

Re: NordVPN doesn't always autoconnect

My friend used Mint 18.3 Xfce edition, and autoconnect worked perfectly for her. She noticed that after upgrading to 19.3 Cinnamon, her autoconnect no longer connected every time after startup.

I am interested to hear what NordVPN tells you.

Re: Running Very Slow after Upgrade to Linux Mint 19.

Flemur could be onto something. I use 18.3 on a weaker laptop that was still sorta new when 18.3 released. For some reason it just seems to work better, or it is better suited to that generation of hardware, or something along those lines. I use 19.3 on my main laptop, but 18.3 xfce seems to have be...

Some people consider themselves the forum police. Maybe they were also hall monitors in school. It's not like you are messing with us on purpose. You're just trying to get your issue fixed. I see posts like this as a drop in the ocean of information for future users. Like you said, maybe it could so...

Re: what are the Most Used keys on our keyboards?

it is difficult to write 40 wpm on a typewriter like that. much respect to you, sir. even on the ibm selectric ii, which struggled to keep up with me, i don't know if i averaged 40 wpm. it was always a question of watching the typewriter finish typing a sentence after i stopped typing. just watching...

My constant struggle with "file name too long" error when downloading torrents

Sometimes when downloading via deluge or transmission, I get the error 'filename too long.' I can resume the torrent, but it happens again a few minutes later. How do I prevent this error from occurring entirely? It makes for a terrible experience checking on the torrent every few minutes until it c...
