Re: How do you remember bits of sudo code?
Interesting discussion, I have used various forms of keeping notes about useful commands over the years. These included a spiral bound notebook for quick and dirty "Oh I better remember that" moments. Plus I keep a spreadsheet for Lessons Learned. This contains a variety of things from use...

Re: [Solved] - Impressions - All Linux household after 3 weeks.
As stated previously, one of the items that was not working on Linux Mint was my scanner. I have finally got the scanner working, Apparently it is where sane files went to, where they are loaded to. I have the same problem and reverted to Mint 18 at the Shed and 18 is the version that handles sane ...

Re: [Solved] - Impressions - All Linux household after 3 weeks.
Don’t know where people get the idea that they have to pay money to follow the upgrade path from w7 to w10??? Maybe if their copy of w7 was pirated. Mine were legit. Did you mean to imply that my w7 installation was pirated? I hope not. My copy of W7 Pro is legit. I used the following command to cr...

Re: [Solved] - Impressions - All Linux household after 3 weeks.
As stated previously, one of the items that was not working on Linux Mint was my scanner. I have finally got the scanner working, but it is not a clean Linux environment any more. I tried everything I could think of and followed the excellent examples from above plus various sources on the internet....

Re: Impressions - All Linux household after 3 weeks.
I have an Epson Perfection V33 scanner that was supposedly not supported, but I was able to get it working. It took me a while to find the answers I needed. My thread documenting my what I tried and what eventually worked is here -- https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=304475 -- Si...

Hello LoneGamer, Welcome to the forums. I too made the switch from W7 to Linux Mint and I am really pleased I did. There are a lot of helpful people here, and I am sure the moderators will provide links to useful information if they haven't already. Best of luck with your Linux experience. Cheers fr...

Re: Impressions - All Linux household after 3 weeks.
Oh, sorry, another point! Printing just highlighted and selected text and images from Firefox and Chrome. Is there any way of doing this? Ctrl+shift+P in Firefox opens a private tab, and within Chrome, although the link to this is at the bottom of the printing set up column, under more settings, it...

Re: Impressions - All Linux household after 3 weeks.
Mick-Cork, Many thanks for the links about Darktable. I will definitely be watching the YouTube video tutorials. It will be interesting to learn what features are similar to Lightroom. One feature I hope exists is how to quickly browse my photos, tagging the best for further processing, and then del...

Re: Impressions - All Linux household after 3 weeks.
As for your scanner - and bearing in mind that I have no knowledge of such things - have you tried this http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/searchModule ? Type in V550 and select Linux, hit search - Perfection V550 Scanner Driver 2.30.4 All-in-one package 08-22-2019. Download the .de...

Re: Impressions - All Linux household after 3 weeks.
Interested to see the report of the scanner problem, because I've just hit it too. I have a Canon MG 3650 printer/scanner/copier. It worked fine immediately as a printer, but I've just wanted to scan something and when I go into Simple Scan it says No Scanners Detected. Any guidance would be welcom...

[Solved] - Impressions - All Linux household after 3 weeks.
This is my review and impressions of an all Linux household after 3 weeks of use. Due to the EOL of Windows 7 the decision was made to move the remaining workstation to Linux Mint. An old laptop had been changed to Mint back in 2016, so there had plenty of time to test drive the OS. See my signature...

Re: Just migrated from Windows 7 to Linux Mint
Hello Arius, I am another W7 EOL escapee to Linux Mint. I had a 40+ year career in software development primarily on the Microsoft stack. Your thought process for changing to Linux was very similar to my own. I transitioned fully to Linux about two weeks ago and I am happy I did. Welcome to the foru...

Re: Amazon music download (SOLVED)
@cliffcoggin Thanks, this one piece of info from your post saved me some time. "whereas the "My Orders" section offers a single download of them all and did in fact work." I am in my second week of an all Linux system and Amazon didn't behave the same way as on Windows 7. Surpris...

All in for Linux!
Hey everybody, I introduced myself back in 2016 when I switched my laptop over to Linux Mint 17.3 - Cinnamon. This is an update to that. Today was the final switch-over to an all Linux household. I had kept my old Windows 7 machine as long as possible because it was so familiar. With the expiration ...

Re: So long M$ Windows 10, hello Linux Mint
A warm welcome and have fun with Linux Mint :-) (btw. reading through some of the latest post in this section it looks like the release of W10 and general Microsoft approach to updating their OS is the best advertising campaign for linux...) I couldn't agree more. There are a lot of unhappy people ...

Re: So long M$ Windows 10, hello Linux Mint
Welcome to Linux Mint! I'm kinda new, too, I've been using Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64-bit for about 1.5 weeks now, and I've never booted into Windows ever since the day I installed it! Have fun in this liberated world. Thanks, looking forward to it. I am going to practice an get used to Mint on this old...

Re: So long M$ Windows 10, hello Linux Mint
Welcome to Mint! Which version did you install? I installed Linux Mint 17.3 (64 bit) with the Cinnamon desktop. I had done a bunch of reading on Google and the consensus was that it was the most similar to the Windows experience. I have been using Windows in one form or another for 25 years so I wa...

So long M$ Windows 10, hello Linux Mint
Hello Folks, As someone else so aptly put it I am another refugee from the Windows 10 shenanigans. I dabbled with Linux many years ago, remember Mepis, but it wasn't serious. This time around I have had it with Microsoft and their damnable update tactics and spyware. I know there is a learning curve...
