Firewall maybe? If you have the firewall enabled on Mint, disable it for troubleshooting purposes and try again.

Re: New installation - Data partition

It is best to leave it. If there was ever any file corruption this is where files are recovered to, lost+found.

Re: New installation - Data partition

You should be safe.
What the command "chown" is going to do is change the owner of everything in /data ( -R operate on files and directories recursively) to your_login_id instead of root, who currently own everything in /data. That is why you cannot write to /data as yourself.

Re: New installation - Data partition

From the ls -l listing I assume that the data directory is where you have the mounted the disk you are trying to access. If so, execute this command and you should be able to write to the /data directory/mountpoint. sudo chown -R your_login_name /data It might also be helpful if you show us the cont...

Re: New installation - Data partition

To add /Data to the Nemo sidebar, in Nemo open the /Data folder then select Bookmarks from the menu bar, then select "Add Bookmark".

You probably can't add files to /Data because you do not own that /Data mount point. To confirm show us the output of this command:

Code: Select all

ls -al /

Mint 20 fails to mount drives with nofail option. Mint 19.3 is OK.

Since upgrading to Mint 20 Cinnamon I notice that my external drives, when system is powered on or after a reboot, do not auto-mount per my /etc/fstab entries. This works fine on my Mint 19.3 Cinnamon system. I read elsewhere in this forum there may be an issue in Mint 20 with fuse filesystems and t...

Deleting the 'qt5ct.conf' file in ~/.config/qt5ct resolved my issue with xnview core dumps on startup.

If you have a firewall enabled, disable it temporarily and see if your scanner is then detected.

I would suggest you try puddletag. You can install it using Software Manager. I will allow you to edit your mp3tags and will also allow renaming based on those tags. Re: After formating new external HDD to NTFS it can't be found

So it looks like your drive is showing up as "Exter /dev/sdb". I would suggest you inspect the drive with the program "gparted". From that program you should be able to format the drive and create any partitions you need. If you need to share the drive with Windows then format it NTFS. You did not m...

Can you access your PC's BIOS boot menu? [Usually F12 or ESC]
If so, if you select the Win7 or Linux partition will the system boot?

Re: Upgraded Win 7 to Win 10, GRUB shows 2 boot options for 7, none for 10

I had this same issue when I upgraded a Win7 computer to Win10, 2 Win7 entries in grub boot menu and no Win10 entry. One way to fix this cosmetic issue is to use grub-customizer. Be aware that some people on the forum do not recommend using this app. The only issue I have had with it is what I think...

Re: cannot cp file to directory with spaces in name

You have your quotes in the wrong place. Should be:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

file="/home/bobi/tmp/file.txt"
dir="/home/bobi/tmp/dir with spaces"

echo $file $dir
  cp $file "$dir"
