Re: Grub won't reinstall on dual-boot drive

Can you access your PC's BIOS boot menu? [Usually F12 or ESC]
If so, if you select the Win7 or Linux partition will the system boot?

Re: Upgraded Win 7 to Win 10, GRUB shows 2 boot options for 7, none for 10

I had this same issue when I upgraded a Win7 computer to Win10, 2 Win7 entries in grub boot menu and no Win10 entry. One way to fix this cosmetic issue is to use grub-customizer. Be aware that some people on the forum do not recommend using this app. The only issue I have had with it is what I think...

Re: cannot cp file to directory with spaces in name

You have your quotes in the wrong place. Should be:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

file="/home/bobi/tmp/file.txt"
dir="/home/bobi/tmp/dir with spaces"

echo $file $dir
  cp $file "$dir"

Re: Email Client

It would help us to help you if we knew what version on Linux you are using (LinuxMint 19.2, Ubuntu 18.04, etc) and which Desktop Environment (Cinnamon, Mate, KDE, etc) ?
Don't forget to setup your email account is Preferences --> Online Accounts if using Cinnamon DE.

Re: Partition manager and other small suggestions

The thing I like about the Windows Mini Partition Tool vs Linux Gparted is the Windows tool shows ALL disks in its main view. In Gparted you have to select each disk to view its layout. Most "new to Linux" users don't know that and are not familiar with the device layouts, /dev/sdX, and partition sc...

Re: Find currently used partition

You might also try the command:

Code: Select all

lsblk -p -o Model,Name,Size,fstype,Label,UUID,Mountpoint -x name
Which shows you almost everything, with one command.

Re: Has anyone tried out the Distro Feren

I am running Feren OS 04_2019 on a Dell Laptop and dual boot with Mint 19.1 on a Dell desktop. There are things I like and things I don't, compared to LinuxMint. I do not have Feren completely configured to my liking, yet. So Mint will remain my "Production" OS for now. Faren does feel a little quic...

This is how I have done the same thing: #!/bin/bash # printf "\n\tRemoving spaces from --->ALL<--- file names in current path $(pwd)\n\n" printf "\t" read -p "Press Enter to continue (Ctrl-C to quit) " junk find . -type f | while read i do mv -v "$i" "${i// /_}" 2>/dev/null done

Re: Canon PIXMA 922 and Mint 19

I use the drivers and ScanGear app from Canon's web site. Get them at https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/inkjet-multifunction/mx-series-inkjet/mx922#Z7_MQH8HIC0L88RB0AMD0F1Q42K25 if you have not already done so. Re: Canon PIXMA 922 and Mint 19

My first question would be is it connected via USB or LAN?

I have this very printer connected to my LAN and 3 Mint 19 Cinnamon PCs work with it just fine, both printing and scanning.

Re: Not so Luckybackup in mint 19

I am using "luckyBackup 0.4.9 (using Qt)" on Mint 19 Cinnamon with no issues backing up "/".

Actually, I am still using the profiles I was using with Mint 18.3, one for my home directory run as me and one for "/" run as root.

Re: Some handy command line aliases

A few of my favorites:

alias drives='lsblk -p -o Model,Name,Size,fstype,Label,UUID,Mountpoint -x name'
alias lsroot='find ~ -user root -exec ls -lad {} \;'
alias partitions='sudo parted -l && sudo blkid -o list'
alias specs='inxi -Fxz'

lsroot finds files owned by root in your home directory

Re: IF THEN to check expressvpn status

I am an expressvpn user. For @Sugarcrisp there is a panel app called "VPN Look-Out" if your are using the Cinnamon desktop. It does what you are trying to do and much more. NOTE: The "expressvpn status" command always returns zero ( 0 ) for an exit code. Here is the output of "disconnected" status: ...
