[Solved]Re: Possible to automount external drive(s) outside of /media?

I know this post is old, but I found a solution for Mint 20. Edit /etc/systemd/system/systemd-udevd.service.d/override.conf add: [Service] MountFlags=shared reboot. After that, usb drives will automount when powered on (after booted) to the mount point you specify in /etc/fstab. My /etc/fstab UUID=d...

Re: Dual boot systems clock 6 hours off for windows

I rarely use Windows in my dual boot PC so I fix it on the Windows side with this registry entry. Save the content below as Win10TimeFixUTC.reg and move it to your windows partition. In Windows right click on the file and select "Merge". Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MAC...

Re: Possible to automount external drive(s) outside of /media?

The only thing I have that is similar is in Nemo preferences.
See Media Handling section
These are the settings I have been using.

Re: Possible to automount external drive(s) outside of /media?

OK guys, so I loaded up a Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3 partition and I remembered correctly. Phd21, note that "nofail" in the fstab should stop the system from stalling during boot if the drives are powered off . I had to do nothing special with my fstab entries for the external hard drives an...

Re: Possible to automount external drive(s) outside of /media?

Kadaitcha Man, so far from what I see you are right. The easiest thing is to just issue mount -a. The thing that "bugs me" (showing my age here) is I am almost positive this worked the way I want it to work on Mint 19.3 I may have to install 19.3 on a new partition to prove this to myself,...

Re: Possible to automount external drive(s) outside of /media?

JerryF, Thank you for the feedback. But, let me be clear. My current entry in /etc/fstab works fine. (As does the one you suggested above). UUID=18664CC2664CA27C /3TB-NTFS2 ntfs-3g auto,nofail,windows_names,users 0 0 What I am trying to accomplish is having the drive (UUID=18664CC2664CA27C) automoun...

[Solved] Possible to automount external drive(s) outside of /media?

Is there a way to have an external USB drive mount automatically, via entries in fstab, when powered on after the system has booted up? I am almost positive this worked on LM 19.3 with the the following entries in fsab. UUID=18664CC2664CA27C /3TB-NTFS2 ntfs-3g auto,nofail,windows_names,users 0 0 UUI...

You can also let systemd enable wol on each boot. interface=$(nmcli dev status | grep -m 1 ethernet | awk '{print $1}') echo "[Unit] Description=Enable WOL After=syslog.target local-fs.target network.target [Service] Type=oneshot ExecStart=/sbin/ethtool -s $interface wol g [Install] WantedBy=mu...

Re: inspiron-3646 linux mint 20 no boot please help

How did you create your your "Live" install media?
What ISO did you use and where did you get it from?

I have an Inspiron 3793. It was very problematic to get LinuxMint 20 installed in it.

Re: I want the default panel to be shown om both my monitors

I have to ask, do you really want both monitors taskbar to display everything or just the apps being displayed on that monitor? In any case, you first have to add a "Window List" applet to the new taksbar. I don't know if there is a way to duplicate the settings from one taskbar to the oth...

Re: I want the default panel to be shown om both my monitors

Right click on a blank area of the taskbar.
Select "Panel Settings"
Select "Add New Panel"
On the Second monitor click the location where you want the new panel to appear.
Add your preferred "Windows list" Applet to the new taskbar.

Firewall maybe? If you have the firewall enabled on Mint, disable it for troubleshooting purposes and try again.

It is best to leave it. If there was ever any file corruption this is where files are recovered to, lost+found.

Re: New installation - Data partition

You should be safe.
What the command "chown" is going to do is change the owner of everything in /data ( -R operate on files and directories recursively) to your_login_id instead of root, who currently own everything in /data. That is why you cannot write to /data as yourself.

Re: New installation - Data partition

From the ls -l listing I assume that the data directory is where you have the mounted the disk you are trying to access. If so, execute this command and you should be able to write to the /data directory/mountpoint. sudo chown -R your_login_name /data It might also be helpful if you show us the cont...

Re: New installation - Data partition

To add /Data to the Nemo sidebar, in Nemo open the /Data folder then select Bookmarks from the menu bar, then select "Add Bookmark".

You probably can't add files to /Data because you do not own that /Data mount point. To confirm show us the output of this command:

Code: Select all

ls -al /
