Re: Why, actually, was Thunderbird 60 released without Calendar when there is a compatible version of the extension?

This is how you can get a functional lightning in your Thunderbird 60.2.1. on Mint 19 as well: install xul-ext-lightning from the Ubuntu repos and uninstall any lightning 5.4 extension from inside Thunderbird. Fantastic! So easy. I was very surprised to see that all my calendar data and caldav-conf...

Re: Why, actually, was Thunderbird 60 released without Calendar when there is a compatible version of the extension?

All I can say is LM19 released with Thunderbird 52 and there was no calendar extension included. I'm not using Thunderbird though so I'm not claiming detailed knowledge about its history. ;) Sorry, my mistake. It is included/activated by default only in Thunderbird's Windows version, which is what ...

Re: Why, actually, was Thunderbird 60 released without Calendar when there is a compatible version of the extension?

When are extensions ever pre-packaged? Extensions are optional features, that's why they are extensions and not parts of the core client. Thunderbird allows you to search and install calendar extensions via the Addons menu entry. Well, yes normally, but Calendar is in fact pre-packaged since a few ...

[SOLVED] Why, actually, was Thunderbird60 released without Calendar when there is a compatible version of the extension?

I too regret that the Calendar add-on disappeared with the recent update, but I don't understand why? According to https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/60.2.1/releasenotes/ the Calendar has not been removed from being a default extension in TB. According to https://developer.mozilla.org/en-...

Re: Cannot make Image Scan work in Linuxmint 19

pastic you are a genius! I copied the three files like comment 98 says, then rebooted, and now both SimpleScan and ImageScan work. Thanks everyone! This thread is solved. Actually, I am not a genius, I'm just passing on info from real geniuses in that bug report. :D But I am glad I could help. I kn...

Re: (Solved) Epson Scanner not usable since update to Mint 19 - Pipe error

Update: I just realized VueScan also "comes with" Mint. I will install it and update you on the outcome. Wow, I did not know that! Nice surprise, courtesy of Flatpak integration, it seems. It is a slightly older version though. Actually, when you download from the developer's site it does not need ...

Re: Epson Scanner not usable since update to Mint 19 - Pipe error

You will need to sudo touch /etc/udev/rules.d/79-udev-epson.rules and then sudo xed /etc/udev/rules.d/79-udev-epson.rules and enter the content into the file Thank you for the simple, easy-to-understand explanation, pastic. Unfortunately, the process did not work for me. Below are steps I took. Fol...

Re: Epson Scanner not usable since update to Mint 19 - Pipe error

I had similar issues with my Epson GT-S85 scanner under Linux Mint 19. The link above solved the problem for me, too. I'm quoting the solution here in case the link goes dead one day. a) 'sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib/sane/libsane-epkowa* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane' b) generate '/etc/udev/rules.d/79-ud...

Re: Cannot make Image Scan work in Linuxmint 19

If you have not solved your issue, have a look at this bug report: solutions can be found in e.g. comment 98 in that bug thread. https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1707352 My Epson v370 started working after this fix, and VueScan now works again (although iScan does not). Re: My USB device shows a red stop icon...

How quaint...
I just went back to Mint 18.1 (dual-boot) and the icon is okay there. But not in 19.

My USB device shows a red stop icon...

For a long time I have had an SSD drive in an external USB-case. No problems. Today, I switched drives in the case and suddenly the icon in Nemo shows a red stop/error icon (see image). When I switch back to the old drive the red icon remains. Is this a sign of some error or is it just Nemo saying "...

Re: NTFS drive not readable on Windows (Partition type: Linux)

fdisk should be able to fix this... You need to change the System ID to 7 (HPFS/NTFS/exFAT) There is no data on the drive so that will not be a problem. But I am trying to understand how this situation came about (what I might have done wrong). Are there different types of NTFS and I selected a "Li...

NTFS drive not readable on Windows (Partition type: Linux)

I seem to have formatted an external USB drive as NTFS in Linux Mint and it not in Windows. As a result it is not recognized in Windows, which surprises me. I thought NTFS was NTFS no matter what OS did the formatting. See below: Partition type for the external NTFS drive is "Linux"; on my other NTF...

ufw allow - what is the "most generous notation" ?

Hi, Short question: if I do ufw allow from 1.2.3.4 and ufw allow to 1.2.3.4 , is that not the most generous way of allowing all possible kinds of communications on all possible ports between 1.2.3.4. and the device running the firewall? Long question: This is not really a Mint question but it is a u...

Hopping up the kernel family ladder - things to consider before leaping?

Hello! TLDR: Is there anything risk but stability when switching kernel families? Say I upgrade from 4.4 to 4.13 and reboot. Might I find that e.g. Thunderbird or Sublime Text needs a new package, which when I install will get in the way of me moving back to 4.4 if 4.13 proves unstable? The long ver...
