Re: install to usb on Linux but use on Windows?
Not sure what you are asking, but any USB that is bootable should work on any computer, Windows or otherwise as long as the computer will boot from a USB. If the computer boots from the USB then it is running whatever system is on the USB. Windows will not read a Linux USB without a third party inst...

Re: New to Linux
Be careful using GPARTED it can be deadly. It can also be terribly useful.

Re: i need help with ram upgrade
It is my understanding that unmatched memory will not run in the double data rate mode but will still work in the single data rate mode. DDR = Double Data Rate. I have never tried with mismatched memory. A single stick of ram will only work in single data mode.

Re: USB File transfer slow down, 2,1TB LM 20.1, LM 20, LM19.3
@seadreamer: i suspected something like that. Can be solution to clear and refresh the temporary storage some, often times? And where, or how? The only thing I can tell you is to not remove your USB device too early. Data continues to transfer from the buffer until it is empty. One way to insure it...

Re: Run sudo command on boot?
You can add a command in Startup Files located in the control center of the Mate menu. If you use a different desktop it will be somewhere, just look for it. You can add a program or a simple command.

Re: USB File transfer slow down, 2,1TB LM 20.1, LM 20, LM19.3
There is a buffer that fills quickly then slows down when transferring data to the USB. I don't know what size the buffer is but not very big. Once it is full data transfers at USB speed.

Re: How can I transfer notes from iPhone (or iCloud) to Linux?
I'm sorry I don't know anything about an Iphone but when I plug my android phone into a USB port, I have access to all the files on it from the desktop on my Mint 20 computer. Score one for android. Try just plugging it in to a USB port,

Also the whole operation needs to be done from an install system, either USB or DVD. Sorry that wasn't in the procedure I posted.

Re: GRUB disappeared - Can I get i back ???
When you installed Linux did you specify a different partition for the boot directory? Most people my self included just specify root (/) and Home (/home) partitions. In fact I would go out on a limb here and say most people in the beginning of their Linux career just use the root install. If this i...

Re: GRUB disappeared - Can I get i back ???
This procedure has worked for me multiple times. I found it here more that 5 years ago. Kudos to the author. $ sudo fdisk -l remember which device listed is your linux distribution, for reference, /dev/sda1 will be used. Now we need to mount the filesystem to /mnt $ sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt * If yo...

Re: Cloning to a new M.2 drive
Although being different brands, both drives are the same size. I will probably replace the old with the new, reboot and reformat the old one.

Cloning to a new M.2 drive
I have a system with two M.2 slots. I have one now kind of old and kind of slow. I am buying a new whizz bang fast M.2 and would like to clone the old one to the new one. I dual boot with Mint and Windows. The old one has the master boot record and grub on it. It also has my copy of Windows, most of...

Re: Home on separate partition
I know that there is some controversy about a separate home partition, I come down in favour of it. I have used a separate partition since Mint 16, not the same partition all that time but I do reuse the same partition until I change disks or feel the need to houseclean. The advantage is that most o...

I think O is original but it is immaterial, the O file is not deleted. You can have more than one O file.

Hibernating is not recommended for SSD drives as it uses a lot of write cycles.
This is old and outdated information.

If you initiated the backup timeshift will not delete it. Scheduled backups are deleted according to the number you set when you setup timeshift.
