Re: Can someone please guide me in installing Windows version of Calibre on my Linux Mint?

If you go with virtualbox you will need to install the whole windows system. I would go with wine if you can.

Re: Can someone please guide me in installing Windows version of Calibre on my Linux Mint?

You can download a copy of Windows 10 in iso form at this link. I believe you will have some time to try it before you need a license. Long enough to see if it will work for your purposes. You can create an installable version of Windows 10 in a USB drive with the iso file. https://www.microsoft.com...

Re: Can someone please guide me in installing Windows version of Calibre on my Linux Mint?

Another option is to install windows in a virtual machine. I use VirtualBox with good results. Install the windows version of Calibre directly with windows.

Re: Can someone please guide me in installing Windows version of Calibre on my Linux Mint?

Why not use the Linux version?

Code: Select all

sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kovidgoyal/calibre/master/setup/linux-installer.py | sudo python -c "import sys; main=lambda:sys.stderr.write('Download failed\n'); exec(sys.stdin.read()); main()"

Re: Login in Problems

It looks like you only have one disk so install grub in /dev/sda. Open a terminal and enter

Code: Select all

sudo grub-install /dev/sda
follow that with

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
Ignore any errors it returns and reboot.

Re: Login in Problems

In almost any version of Linux you can open a terminal several different ways. Ctrl-Alt-t will do it. Ctrl-Alt- f1 will also. When you get a terminal try running sudo update-grub if that doesn't work try sudo grub-install /dev/sda . That should bring back the Windows option. Install grub to the boot...

Re: Ejecting USB 3.0 thumb drive

When I have been transferring files or using a USB (flash) drive, I open a terminal and run the sync command to flush the write cache before unplugging anything. Don't know if that relates to anything, just a comment.

Re: Update manager problem

This is one of the reasons Linux is generally safe from malware. You can rely on most of the repositories as safe to download from because they are maintained with current certificates and checked often. That said, I have a VPN from Keepsolid that is good, safe, and generally a good piece of softwar...

Re: Linux mint 19 not booting

If you have installed Windows after Linux you can fix it with this. Kudos to whoever wrote this years ago, I have used it well. * First, grab a copy of the latest Mint/Ubuntu LiveCD and boot it. * Open a terminal and type $ sudo fdisk -l * Now, you need to remember which device listed is your linux ...

Re: How to make extended desktop on mint 19.2

I use Mate and have Nvidia graphics so this is way out of my comfort zone, but try Displays in Control Center. Terminology may vary for XFCE.

Re: Scanning

I used a program called Iscan. I don't remember where I got it but google is your friend. I have not used it for several years so my information may be out of date. My scanner was from Epson so your mileage may vary.

Lots of disclaimers there, sorry. It may still help.

Re: How to make a good password

I don't waste a lot of time worrying about someone spending a trillion years breaking my password, but I do worry about some jack*ss hacker stealing my data from some site that isn't watertight. With a pw manager he only gets one of my accounts instead of all of them.

Re: SOLVED Grub doesn't find Windows Boot Manager

I am marking this one solved. Over the last couple days I have reinstalled Windows 10 three times, and Linux Mint twice with a boatload of updates on both. Windows 10 on new computers requires a gpt partition and Linux Mint will present a EUFI option, at least with a flash drive source. I could not ...

Re: Grub doesn't find Windows Boot Manager

Most motherboards have a keystroke for boot devices. Look it up using Google. For example Dell is F12, Asrock is F11M Intel is F10. Once you access the device menu, you can arrow down to the desired device and hit Enter.
Cool, I will try that. Thanks

I will try the UEFI install and let you know.

Re: Grub doesn't find Windows Boot Manager

How do I specify UEFI when I am installing Mint? Or is it automatic if I have secure boot set?

Thanks for your help on this.

Re: Grub doesn't find Windows Boot Manager

The only way I could get Windows 10 to install was to delete a partition, and let Windows install to it as unused space. Windows set it as a gpt partition and set up Windows Boot Manager. Now Grub cant' find it.

[SOLVED] Grub doesn't find Windows Boot Manager

I loaded Windows 10 in legacy mode. I restored grub so I could boot into Linux. Update grub does not find Windows boot manager. I can boot to Windows by going into BIOS setup and selecting the windows drive. How can I set up Grub to find Windows?
