Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Gotta say, Cinnamon is really nice. Shell is workable with extensions, and mate has come a long way. A great fallback setup. I'd vote Cinnamon first, shell second (only because it's the future, like it or not) and mate third.

Re: IBM Touchpad T41p - Cannot shutdown/Suspend

Use synaptic to see if you have kexec-tools installed. If so, remove it. It won't help with suspend, but might help with shutdown.

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

Davarish, While you perhaps have some valid points, your presentation of those points seems a bit strong. For example, what constitutes these "Official" users you mentioned earlier? Are they limited to the folks that agree with you? And are all that do not Cartmans? When LMDE started out, the testin...

wyrdoak, This worked for me in gnome, might work in xfce. Worth a shot, in any case. Remove or comment out these lines in /etc/bash.bashrc: if [ "$PS1" ] ; then mkdir -p -m 0700 /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/$$ > /dev/null 2>&1 echo $$ > /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/$$/tasks echo "1" > /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/$$/notify...

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or other non-standard) BREAKAGES!

I got frisky the other day and decided to try sid on my other PC. Looks like it was just in time for gnome shell. Actually, it's not bad... but it is a bit different. I'd never have figured that this old ATI card [Radeon 9600] would even run gnome shell, but it works so far. Both shell and fallback ...

Re: Setting Up Partitions In GParted Mint/Debian?

On my machine, I had to first create the partitions, restart, then do the install. This was on the older release. I haven't tried with the respin, but it could be the same. Of course, it may well be different for others. Always worth a try, though. I could not begin to imagine having to go back to w...

Re: What version of LMDE do I have?

From what I've seen so far, it is version 1, and will remain so. Or at least that's my take from the forum posts I've read. It will be updated on a fairly constant basis, both from updates and respins. But it will be based more or less on the current version of debian testing.

You should have a look here. There's an easy answer near the beginning, 4th reply, if all you want to do is change the picture. If you read the whole thread, a more complete solution is given near the end of the second page. I ended up using the .preserve solution provided by RHTopics.

You might try changing the size of the desktop font... maybe make it a bit smaller. Could be worth a try.

Re: UPDATE PACK 3 FEEDBACK THREAD

Not much to report here. Mint Update updated itself, then showed the other updates. Completed the remainder with smxi, around 400 updates, no issues. As I use the open source driver on my "Incoming" PC (LMDE 32), no gfx issues.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 2 july 2011

I've noticed workarounds for Nvidia, and was wondering if anyone has come up with one for fglrx/Catalyst drivers yet.

One other quick question - does the breakage occur with all kernels, or does it only affect the 2.6.39 variety?

Running compiz, by any chance? I am also running an ATI card, and every great once in a while that happens on this PC. I just run fusion-icon, click on reload window manager, and it's all good.

Might be worth a shot...
