Re: msbuild package conflicts with mono-roslyn package?

Thanks! It looks like the suggestion in that post is to overwrite one of the conflicting packages. Is there a way to decide which package is more important though? Edit: Well, it looks like the problem has solved itself. My Update Manager appears to have installed msbuild without issue today. If I'm...

[Solved] msbuild package conflicts with mono-roslyn package?

Recently, I got an error when trying to update packages using Update Manager. The error is as follows: E: /var/cache/apt/archives/msbuild_1%3a16.0+xamarinxplat.2019.05.07.15.32-0xamarin2+ubuntu1804b1_all.deb: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/mono/msbuild/15.0', which is also in package mono-roslyn 5.20...

Re: What is the <br> at the end of a package's name?

Oh of course. It's a line break in html. I hadn't considered the possibility that there might be a typo in the line. Thanks for the fast clarification!

[Solved] What is the <br> at the end of a package's name?

I was just looking at the official instructions to upgrade from Mint 19 to Mint 19.1: https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3715. One of the steps involves running this line: apt install p7zip-full xul-ext-lightning<br> What exactly does the <br> at the end of xul-ext-lightning mean? Is it part of the packa...

Re: Is this LVM on LUKS installation method still relevant?

I used this guide not so long ago with xubuntu 18.04 (in dual-boot with macOS). So it should work for Mint 19 (any flavour) which is based on Ubuntu 18.04. But as pbear mentioned, do not dual-boot with windows, their evil will probably destroy your data one day. (if you insist, the minimum is that ...

Printer function of all-in-one works but scanner function doesn't

I have a Canon Maxify MB2720. It has both printer and scanner functions built in. I have it connected to my router. The official printer and scanner drivers are available here: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/small-office-home-office-printers/mb2720 After d...

[Solved] Erasing Search Tool's history

There is an application in Mate 18.3 and Mate 19 called Search Tool. Clicking Help on it indicates that an alternate name is Search For Files. This tool saved my recent search history. I don't know how far back the history goes, but I could not find a way to clear the history manually. Is there a wa...

Is this LVM on LUKS installation method still relevant?

Years ago, I used this guide to do a fully-encrypted installation of Mint: https://askubuntu.com/questions/293028/how-can-i-install-ubuntu-encrypted-with-luks-with-dual-boot I even tested doing a clean installation using Mate 19, and it appeared to work. Recently, however, I ran into some problems w...

Re: Upgrading from Mate 18.3 to Mate 19

It "worked" meaning it booted up, but with quite a few caveats. Here are some of the bigger problems I ran into: 1. Blank screen on startup. If I press the left or right arrows, then I see this: At the disk decryption startup screen: "Please unlock disk (my disk name). WARNING: Failed to connect to ...

Re: [Solved] Upgrading from Mate 18.3 to Mate 19

Thanks! I followed the official instructions and they worked. By the way, why would I be better off doing a clean install of 19.1? I've put a lot of work into the previous versions. I think I initially installed 18, then upgraded to 18.3. This is an old installation. I've tweaked the os considerably...

Upgrading from Mate 18.3 to Mate 19

I am having some issues with Mate 18.3 and I would like to upgrade to Mate 19. I looked for a way to do this, but I couldn't find any official guides from linuxmint.com or any subdomains such as the blog. I did find this: https://itsfoss.com/upgrade-linux-mint-version/ However, I'm unfamiliar with t...

Re: How to bring terminal colors back to the way they were in Mint 18?

I wish I could be on Linux exclusively, but I can't. There is some stuff that will only run on Windows, or that might run on Wine, but breaks often enough for me to not have time to tinker with it manually, so I do a dual boot and run both instead. If you don't mind my asking, do you have formal edu...

Re: How to bring terminal colors back to the way they were in Mint 18?

Thank you rene! But does anything change if I'm using Mate instead of Cinnamon? The installation of Mint that you fixed was Mint 19 Mate 64-bit. I believe I saw slight differences between your lines and mine, so I copied and pasted the Mint 18.3 block to be safe, and it worked. By the way, how do yo...

Re: HOW TO change graphics drivers on installed LM19 from within a live usb?

I don't know if there's a simple guide, but I pieced this together from a lot of Googling and testing. If anyone has any corrections to this unprofessional and informal mini-guide, please don't hesitate to correct me, because I'm likely missing something important. :D For most systems, the basic pro...

Re: HOW TO change graphics drivers on installed LM19 from within a live usb?

As for ppas, you could save that specific directory and then copy back after the install. If you have a separate /home, then most of your program setting are saved in the .<configname> files in your /home/<username> directory. these "invisible" files are an important part of your system configurati...

Re: Grub boot menu always shows

That grub-common update doesn't sound like a big deal, but what if I do something similar to what JeremyB suggested, but not exactly the same? After reading his first post, I did some research and found this article: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Setup In particular, this section stood out...

Re: Grub boot menu always shows

Looks like this basically changes quick_boot=1 to quick_boot=0 in /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober.

If I upgrade the kernel or do some other operating system update, do I have to do anything special after this change?
