Re: audacity menus are missing (play/stop/etc...)

4. yes, i believe that it has to do with the hebrew installation, and now the question becomes whether it will be possible to use Audacity with my system as it is or not (???#$%#??). Could be cumbersome. A thread from the end of last year on the Audacity forum https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtop...

Re: audacity menus are missing (play/stop/etc...)

On my 18.3 KDE system, in Audacity, under View -> Toolbars, everything is selected except Combined Meter Toolbar and Spectral Selection Toolbar. All controls show that you state are missing. Are the same toolbars checked for yours? I see in the screenshot that the menu bar entries are reversed compa...

Re: iwlwifi deleted from kernel 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64?

Always interested in learning something new, while running 14.15.0-15 I did

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-20-generic
rebooted into 14.15.0-20, and voilà, wifi.

I do run the LTS 4.4 kernel quite a bit. It works flawlessly.

Thanks, Jeremy.

[Solved] iwlwifi deleted from kernel 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64?

I tested kernel 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64 and had no wifi. It's OK in kernel 4.15.0-15-generic x86_64. Re: Can no longer resuscitate ThinkPad by removing CMOS battery, laptop batt, AC adapter

Unplug the AC adapter and take out the battery. Push the power button 10 times in a row at one second intervals. Next, push and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Put the battery back in and connect the AC adapter and push the power button. It sounds bizarre, but it has revived many ThinkPads, on...

Re: Old Compaq desktop not booting

I had a boot problem on an old HP desktop. The light around the power button came on, the fans ran, but it sounded like the two hard drives kept trying to spin but did not go. I found that if I turned off the switch on the power supply, then pressed the computer's power button, there was a brief fla...

Re: HP printer problems

I'm using Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon and I bought an HP Deskjet 2652 printer. The Deskjet 2652 is not supported in Linux. The HPLIP page at https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index has no listing for it. The HP site at https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Des...

Re: Monitor Resolution Limited to One Sucky Option

The 384.111 version driver looks good for the GeForce GT 640 card. How did you install the driver? From the standard repositories using Driver Manager? Were there error messages during installation? Re: LM18.3 | NVIDIA G96GLM/Quadro FX 770M | can't get nvidia-340 driver to take

In my experience, the 4.13 kernels are incompatible with 340 series nvidia drivers. Site http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/130042/en-us states Quadro FX 770M latest driver is Version 340.106. My system has an old nvidia card that requires a 340 series driver, and I have to use a 4.4 ...

I have a wifi USB adapter that needs a compiled driver. Mine happens to be from https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8192du.git. Like you, I made an unsuccessful attempt at using dkms. For now, I manually install the driver for each new kernel. I start with the downloaded zip file, delete the extracted su...

The HPLIP list of supported printers at https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index does not include the M12W. It may be too new to work with Linux. The diagnosis states Current contents of '/etc/hp/hplip.conf' file: # hplip.conf. Generated from hplip.conf.in by c...

How is your printer connected? USB or network? First do sudo apt-get purge hplip Then remove any configured CP1025 printers through System Settings. Use Software Manager to install HPLIP and HPLIP-gui from the Mint repository. Run HPLIP toolbox. It should report there are no printers installed. Run ...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

Has any of you tried openSuse? I used it for years and really like it. I switched to Mint when openSUSE stopped providing a standard 32-bit version. I wanted one distribution with KDE to run on all my old ThinkPads. OpenSUSE provides a 32-bit rolling release, Tumbleweed. I tried it and it worked, b...

The latest 4.13 kernels seem to have trouble with nvidia drivers prior to the 387 series. Have you tried the 387 or 390 series drivers that are listed? The nvidia site indicates 390 is the right one to use.

Re: Mint 18 Sarah XFCE- did I pick the wrong Distro?

Mint Xfce should be fine on your hardware. We'll know for sure after seeing the response to catweazel's request. You are probably missing some samba components. See altair4's tutorial at https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=224391 and his advice on printer sharing at https://forums.linu...
