Re: HP printer problems

I'm using Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon and I bought an HP Deskjet 2652 printer. The Deskjet 2652 is not supported in Linux. The HPLIP page at https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index has no listing for it. The HP site at https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Des...

Re: [SOLVED] Monitor Resolution Limited to One Sucky Option

It appears this was a problem for lots of folks on release of the 4.4.0-116 kernel. Lots of discussion and a fix at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1750937 and https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php ... st13742281

Re: Monitor Resolution Limited to One Sucky Option

The 384.111 version driver looks good for the GeForce GT 640 card. How did you install the driver? From the standard repositories using Driver Manager? Were there error messages during installation? Re: LM18.3 | NVIDIA G96GLM/Quadro FX 770M | can't get nvidia-340 driver to take

In my experience, the 4.13 kernels are incompatible with 340 series nvidia drivers. Site http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/130042/en-us states Quadro FX 770M latest driver is Version 340.106. My system has an old nvidia card that requires a 340 series driver, and I have to use a 4.4 ...

Does your router use MAC filtering to allow connections from only listed devices? If so, is the TP-Link dongle listed?

Re: Need help with wifi after installing new kernel

I have a wifi USB adapter that needs a compiled driver. Mine happens to be from https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8192du.git. Like you, I made an unsuccessful attempt at using dkms. For now, I manually install the driver for each new kernel. I start with the downloaded zip file, delete the extracted su...

Re: HP Laserjet pro M12W printer not working

The HPLIP list of supported printers at https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index does not include the M12W. It may be too new to work with Linux. The diagnosis states Current contents of '/etc/hp/hplip.conf' file: # hplip.conf. Generated from hplip.conf.in by c...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I installed Kubuntu on one of my test machines, a ThinkPad X41 (32-bit). Installation was smooth. Con: Kubuntu's software management program "Discover" was unusable in the initial installation. I posted about the issue on the Kubuntu forum, and got responses I would recommend not using Discover, ins...

Re: problem to install Hp Laserjet cp1025 Color

How is your printer connected? USB or network? First do sudo apt-get purge hplip Then remove any configured CP1025 printers through System Settings. Use Software Manager to install HPLIP and HPLIP-gui from the Mint repository. Run HPLIP toolbox. It should report there are no printers installed. Run ...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

Has any of you tried openSuse? I used it for years and really like it. I switched to Mint when openSUSE stopped providing a standard 32-bit version. I wanted one distribution with KDE to run on all my old ThinkPads. OpenSUSE provides a 32-bit rolling release, Tumbleweed. I tried it and it worked, b...

What version of nvidia-settings is installed? On this Mint 18.2 KDE 64-bit, it is 361.42-0ubuntu1, and shows X and GPU data.

Re: Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 (driver issue)

The latest 4.13 kernels seem to have trouble with nvidia drivers prior to the 387 series. Have you tried the 387 or 390 series drivers that are listed? The nvidia site indicates 390 is the right one to use.

Re: Mint 18 Sarah XFCE- did I pick the wrong Distro?

Mint Xfce should be fine on your hardware. We'll know for sure after seeing the response to catweazel's request. You are probably missing some samba components. See altair4's tutorial at https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=224391 and his advice on printer sharing at https://forums.linu...

We need more information. Post results of inxi -S What version of HPLIP is installed, and how did you install it? According to https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index, M102a requires HPLIP 3.16.11 or newer, which is newer than the version in Mint repositories....

I won't have any issues with physically replacing the board Check the new MB power requirement against the installed power supply. I recently replaced the MB in my HP a730n. The existing power supply was just below the recommended minimum capacity, and eight years old, but I tried it. The system so...

Re: Firefox won't run after update to 18.3 Xfce 32-bit

If you have upgraded from a version of Firefox earlier than 53 chances are you are using an older AMD Athlon without SSE2. If you don't know, check the "flags" in /proc/cpuinfo to see whether or not "sse2" is listed. [EDIT] Noted the ThinkPad T23 specification seconds after posting; that's a Pentiu...

[Solved]Firefox won't run after update to 18.3 Xfce 32-bit

I did the automated update of my ThinkPad T23 from Mint 18.2 Xfce 32-bit to 18.3. It went without error. That brought in Firefox version 57.0.4+linuxmint1+sylvia, but it will not run. I removed the ~/.cache/mozilla and the ~/.mozilla directories. Clicking the Firefox launcher does recreate those dir...

Just before this problem occurred, did Windows 10 do the update to version 1709? On 2 of 2 of my dual-boot laptops, this update changed to fast startup enabled, which makes Linux boots fail. The fix for me was to boot Windows and do the following from https://in.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a...
