Re: Finally [SOLVED] no reboot or shutdown (a 6 month tale of woe with kernel 5)

@catweazel have you upgraded to the latest firmware and booted with kernel 4.15.0-58? you'd be mighty surprised if it worked. link to linux-firmware-20190815.tar.gz https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/ extract the folder open a terminal in it and sudo make ins...

Re: Finally [SOLVED] no reboot or shutdown (a 6 month tale of woe with kernel 5)

Note that with an AMD Ryzen CPU you might benefit from using the 5.2.x kernel, which is already available in the (item 8 ) for any new ryzen users seeing this there are two ways to go. the ubuntu way or the mainline way. if you want the proprietary drivers amdgpu-pro which is now called radeon soft...

Re: {SOLVED} Timeshift restore

i'm going to delete my mint 19.2 cinnamon root partition and install endeavour os in place of it using the same $HOME partition to create a new user while retaining my current mint user to come back after i'm done testing. basically i'm going to destroy my mint 19.2 in order to try the new endeavour...

Re: Random freezes running Linux Mint 19.1 on Thinkpad A485 (AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U)

Newer kernel was definitely needed on this Ideapad with Ryzen 5. Kernel 4.18 was minimum, the 5.0.0 that came with 19.2 is great, and now I just installed 5.2.8 to see if it works. For the moment it does. if you get no errors when you run this then you have found a good compromise between system an...

you're safe there, my friend. i trust you to make a better judgement on symbolic icons than the whole GNOME/GTK developer team  what i meant is if you take away the user ability to change icons, they better be darn good looking and practical. seems gnome wants to do away with all icons and hav...

Re: no audio captured with USB HDMI capture device.

if you get no audio from hdmi the first thing to try is unplug your hdmi wait a few seconds and plug it back in. in Terminal run pulseaudio -k and wait about 6 seconds for the new sound cookies to be regenerated and last it seems that opening the sound settings kickstarts audio. click your volume ic...

Please try the latest kernel 5.2.x series. Though not supported by Mint, it's worth a try. INFO: to have amdgpu-pro-19.20-812932 work on my system mint 19.2 cinnamon ryzen3/vega8 i had to do the following: if you start fresh and want the amdgpu-pro drivers 1: apt install linux-generic 2: download h...

hey gm10
i'm trying to test out amdgpu-pro but it needs kernel 4.15. when i click install in the update manager linux kernel section nothing happens. do you think this is a ppa issue or ubuntu? are the kernels in your script coming from mainline only?

i'm a sarcastic user, and joke a lot  with everyone don't take it personal. xdm like most software developed by one man team has quirks and flaws. if you disable browser monitoring, clear items in the extension dropdown menu and you kill the download video you won't get the window again. ju...

works fine here mint 19.2 cinnamon, ryzen3 with 18.3+git20190621.1610-final-0bionic once you have your nvidia working properly and higher resolution monitor maybe it'll work for you too. i'm actually impressed that kodi buffers very well now, and no need to mess with advanced_settings.xml huh!

Re: Kodi 18.3 crashes at startup in Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" Cinnamon Edition

I already use the latest kodi version 18.3 to my laptop...an old Dell 1537, with a new ssd drive, and it works flawlessly!!! That's why I insist about the newest version...I know it works!!! If I change the gpu driver kodi works just fine but I don't have the correct resolution (1280x1024) for my m...
