FYI kernel 4.20.1 and kernel 4.20.2 were declared Build for amd64 failed at https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ so if you get a listing in ukuu to update to 4.20.1-2 it will disappear the second refresh of ukuu so do not install these kernel . wasn't paying attention even though ukuu wen...

Re: Can I monitor connections to open ports?

I block all ports in my firewall, except those necessary for visiting websites. Thanks for the help. i don't understand why you need open ports for websites. the only ports i allow are for file transfers with nitroshare and dukto which i share files through the wireless router. which websites need ...

Re: Unetbootin Fails To Write Windows iso File To Flash Drive

Must admit being slightly confused, at least initially, but I have now executed the line commands shown and woeusb is actually a command that works via Menu. ( The fact that its icon includes the Windows icon can also be offputting, suggesting the code is actually run BY Windows but I’ll ignore tha...

Re: Install gksu so gksu and gksudo work again in Mint 19. 64bit.

i'll give you a workaround for pkexec that has a policy. when you enter pkexec thunar or whatever pkexec if it has an individual policy you can edit it to allow you and open it with no password. it's useful if you want to limit password entries. but as with all files i compress them so i can easily ...

haven't used vlc since maybe 10 years ago. the same gripes you have about smplayer i have about vlc . mplayer was not meant to be used on it's own. mpv is the superior single file player at the moment

Re: unable to login

delete these files from the user that doesn't log in. you have done nothing to cause this. this is quite routine. now if there's an issue with passwords being wrong i can't say. but you won'r break anything by deleting these. i do quite often just because i can :D sometimes it prevents the very issu...

Re: Google Chrome and Firejail (sandbox)

I would not use --ignore=nodus because, while it silences this warning, it also removes a firejail safeguard and (theoretically) could allow a malicious application to escape the firejail sandbox by using dbus. Cheers! Fred thank you for the explanation. so don't use --ignore=nodbus unless it fails...

Re: Install gksu so gksu and gksudo work again in Mint 19. 64bit.

no need for that my friend, to be honest i was working on gksu with keyring a while back but gave up after i broke quite a few things so i wouldn't advice anyone to go on a quest and get it working. in my arch it just works, i needed no extra help aside installing gksu and libgksu

Re: Problem with Broken Graphic Driver (Nvidia)

start by apt purge nvidia* then reboot. open Software Sources and UNcheck the nvidia ppa if you installed it, then apt update . the ppa works but you didn't start the process correctly. i won't post any more info until i see the Terminal output for dpkg -l nvidia*

I do. That is where I got some of the entries I posted. I have a menu entry in Administration. It also opens in a terminal, but closes when I closed the terminal. :D most things you open from terminal will close when you close the terminal (the terminal is a good place for troubleshooting). from no...

don't be fooled here thinking firefox doesn't phone home. all the browsers phone home even waterfox and irridium or brave.
If we're assuming for a moment that this is true, wouldn't it make a difference to you which 'home' they are calling to? It would to me.

Re: Install gksu so gksu and gksudo work again in Mint 19. 64bit.

the whole point of my using gksu is to save to session or keyring. if i can't do that in mint19 i don't see any real use for gksu :( in mint19 which is odd since in arch you get cutting edge software but gksu works as it always has like in mint17 so to me makes no difference which i use in mint19 an...

Re: detects wifi networks but It does not connect

there a few things to can try. first open /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf as root and change it to

Code: Select all

[connection]
wifi.powersave = 2
restart your network systemctl restart network-manager or reboot. this turns off power management may help or not can't say
