Same problem here, I have videos that I can't play anymore because of this error..I was about to reinstall the OS when I saw this thread.

Hi I was facing the same problem in Linux Mint 18, and I solved it by installing this custom version of the driver:https://github.com/paroj/xpad. I hope it'll help.
