Re: Cashless Society is getting closer

....... Banks generally loan out 10 times as much as they have. That's how majority of money comes into existence. Yes indeed ! They are only obliged to hold around one tenth of all deposits , as liquid cash . And there's a key historical point on how that " fractional reserve" system came into bei...

Good that you got your problem sorted , and thank you for posting back here , it all adds to the " knowledge base " and it aids continuity . ....... Rack Synth ( vcvrack ) - anyone using this in Mint ?

https://vcvrack.com Is anyone using this in Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.3 ( or any other Mint version ) ? The manual says :- " Rack requires at least OpenGL 2.0 with the GL_EXT_framebuffer_object extension. If your graphics card supports this, make sure you've installed the latest graphics drivers, and r...

When I try to assign 8080 the router complains that "Port true is reserved by system and not available." Not sure what this means. Yes , it looks like a port-forwarding issue . I don't have a fix for your problem but I thought of a couple of points :- You can use RealVNC to get remote access to dev...

Re: FBI Tells People To Reboot Routers, Warns Of Major Malware Infection

Yep, read that here on the forum a couple of days ago. My router is one of the ones they list as vulnerable, but I've been using Tomato firmware on it for years, and have it set to reboot itself once a week. I feel like I'm protected from this malware, but would like to know for sure. Any one know?...

Re: Cloud backup recommendations

I favor the 3-2-1 security rule .

3 backups
2 stored locally , ideally on different media
1 stored off-site , always .

IMO cloud storage is for the birds ....
" Cloud " means on someone else's server
" Cloud " means not under my command and control

Re: How much more powerful cpu will be required for LM 19?

As long as your hardware plays nice with the 4.15 kernel you'll be fine. Why not test with a live session of xubuntu 18.04 or something to give yourself early warning of any potential issues? I've just tried that , and it is stunningly good ! OK - higher spec hardware here ( i5 8GB blah blah ) but ...

In 18.3 Cinnamon , I use an applet called " inhibit " to do this ( inhibit@cinnamon.org ) It puts an icon near the clock and network icons , and clicking on it gives the option of toggling " Power management " from "1" to "0" . Just what I want , with no permanent changes to the main screensaver/pow...
