Seymour Cray - a genius , a wizard , a true star !

Not nearly enough credit is given to this quiet genius . Almost every project he was involved with became the most powerful computer of it's time , starting in the sixties , from the CDC 6600 to the Cray-1 , Cray Y-MP and finally the Cray-4 . He more or less invented and built the practical super-co...

Re: Happy 25th to Debian!

The most rock-solid stability of any OS I ever came across .

Still using it and still loving it , although mostly in the form of Raspbian these days .

RIP Ian Murdock .
Taken from us too soon , but what a wonderful legacy to leave !

Re: BSDCan 2018: The Tragedy of systemd

..... Is it possible BSD is seeing a need to have something similar to systemd in their OSs? The speaker in that presentation appears to be suggesting exactly that , but I think it's safe bet that they won't be naming it anything like the "s" word  I did a search just now but can't find any sp...

..... So, Systemd may be a good direction for Linux but bad for independent-minded Linux developers who have a propensity to go off-the-beaten-path to create new Linux-forks at the drop of a hat. Some Linux developers dream to be the next Linus Torvald or Andy Rubin or Larry Page/Sergey Brin. .... ...

I've known for a long while that it's a kind of generic menu icon, and there's one right here in Waterfox , but it's only recently that I heard a friend's kids saying " Click on the Hamburger " . I thought they were ordering take-away .... ...... I guess the devs could argue correctly that a s...

Re: Time for a little bit of reading!

Ethylene is produced naturally by fruits , in relatively small amounts , as a natural part of the ripening process . Cherries and blueberries produce very little , compared to apples and pears . Ethanol ( ethyl alcohol ) , by comparison , is produced in large amounts as fruits decompose and ferment ...

When a "trivial" bug becomes lethal .

I saw this on Hacker News today .

Radiotherapy machine runs out of control with disastrous consequences

Bad coding , poor testing and inadequate training of end-users of the system .
A very sorry tale indeed , and a salutary lesson !
