Re: Please HELP me create a Live USB Mint 18 MATE with persistence [SOLVED]

Listing variables for a persistent overlay live-USB Linux solution: 1. Speed of hardware (important but not the only controlling variable) 2. Storage capacity (persistent = storage so make sure there's enough capacity) 3. Cache (Or is r/w thrashing of the USB stick no longer of concern? Patriot used...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core

Here's a major problem associated with that solution: DO NOT INSTALL any proprietary drivers, such as the CPU Microcode or the Graphics Driver, it will render the USB unusable on any other PC that has a different CPU or Graphics Card. EXAMPLE: You install Intel CPU Microcode and nVidia Drivers, you ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core

I've been unable to find a source that explains the value-added of Remix 2.0 I already have Android & MS win10 loaded - it came that way. What does Remix 2.0 add, please? A question better asked on TechTablets, XDA-developers, or Remix forums. I think he just mentioned it as a non-windows option if...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core

I have the wifi driver. I tried to install it using a live-USB boot stick (Linux Mint) with the driver on a microSD card. It failed. I'm not sure why - maybe it's necessary for the driver to reside on the ESSD? I'd like to test a mostly functional (fuller-featured) OS that I can burn to a USB stick,...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core

It appears that y'all are getting closer ... 4. Bring files over on a USB device - this step needs greater clarity. I'm trying to avoid guessing. I can test something that's assembled and tested but don't have time to be exploring "guides" as I'll just create a mess. Can you assemble Step 4 into som...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core

I'd like to try to help. Questions: 1. I understand that you installed to your Hi12 EEMC drive - were you able to do so & have Android & MS win10 remain intact? If so can you share the steps, please? When I attempted to borrow some unused space from the win10 partition, to create a Linux partition (...

Re: [Solved!] Realtek RTL8723BS not working on tablet Cinnamon 18

I found a few minutes to experiment last evening ... I tried to load the wifi driver from a microSD card & that failed. The boot Linux Mint USB stick won't mount so I can't install from there. Does the wifi driver have to be loaded from & remain resident on the Hi12 HDD? I'm having trouble creating ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core

Can you move the mouse to a different USB port and try again? The mouse and the touchscreen may be competing for the same resource. I'm guessing someone can tweak a script somewhere in the system to force the mouse and touchscreen to test for a busy resource and seek a different USB port. I'm so far...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core

Anyone got paint-by-numbers as to how to accomplish this with a Linux Mint 18 Mate 64 USB Live-Boot, please?

Thanks!

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core

OK re. using the non-graphical gparted & recording the starting layout for reference. (The Beta discussion re. Mint 18 implied some concerns re. gparted that may explain my experience. Can't say for sure.) I was hoping someone had an undisturbed Chuwi Hi-12 and could provide that reference - I'll ge...

Re: [Solved!] Realtek RTL8723BS not working on tablet Cinnamon 18

Thanks! I really like the Chuwi Hi12. I had read that you had wiped the HDD on your first tablet and that you later acquired a second tablet. I was hoping you'd tried the USB Linux boot on the second (dual-boot) tablet. I have Linux working via USB but when trying to create 20GB for on-tablet HDD st...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Working on Chuwi Hi12 Tablet PC 64 Bit Cherry Trail Quad Core

20160804_200516.jpg 20160804_200159.jpg When running gparted on a 20GB partition created by shrinking the 42GB Windows partition in Win10 for some reason gparted made a change to Android partition #8 instead of the selected partition #16. I'm now getting a "Libparted Error (as superuser)" error "Pa...

Re: [Solved!] Realtek RTL8723BS not working on tablet Cinnamon 18

OK. I had hoped he'd tried the USB install on his second Hi12. OK re. Macrium - it's loading now - typical MS app, a gargantuan 1/2G+ (574.5MB) just to perform backup & restore. I'm spoiled by Puppy Linux where the emphasis has been on really tight code. Asked my CS-major son to find a way to downlo...

Re: [Solved!] Realtek RTL8723BS not working on tablet Cinnamon 18

I have my Hi12 & I have Linux Mint 18 running. See this link for details ... http://techtablets.com/forum/topic/linux-on-atom-based-devices/page/17/#post-45211 Questions: 1. Where does the wifi driver get loaded - on the USB stick or does it write to some location on the Hi12 tablet? 2. Are you work...
