Re: VPN autoconnect not working

I have the same problem. It appears to be a known, still unresolved issue:

Re: wired does not connect on boot if vpn option enabled

This bug still exists. On my Mint 17.3 Cinnamon with Kernel 4.13.0-32, the password-flags=0 workaround does not fix it. I use auto-login (the system is a HTPC on which entering a login password would be impractical.) edit: strangely, after another reboot (and no additional changes made), it's now wo...

Re: improvement to System-config-samba and Caja samba share browsing

I knew that System-config-samba was borderline abandoned. Could the Mint project not adopt it and make it a part of its system configuration? One way or another, I think that the lack of out-of-the-box filesharing is a major problem for any desktop OS, especially an OS that is designed to be beginne...

improvement to System-config-samba and Caja samba share browsing

System-config-samba is a great little GUI tool to help Linux beginners set up samba shares. It works mostly fine (except for that little touch /etc/libuser.conf issue, but that's not what this post is about.) Sometimes, new or inexperienced samba users use this tool to set up or add shares and run i...

Allow Update Manager to remove several old kernels

It would be very convenient if several old kernels could be removed at the same time in Update Manager. Currently, Update Manager can only remove one at a time, and each time requires one to re-enter the root password. I'm aware that there are already ways to do this: https://forums.linuxmint.com/vi...

LAN connection will not automatically start when set to connect to VPN automatically

I want my HTCP (which runs Mint 18.3) to automatically use my VPN. The wired network connection auto-connects fine without VPN. Now I configured the VPN connection in the Network Manager, also works fine when I manually activate it. The problem: when I set the wired connection to autoconnect to the ...

I'm seeing that today in my update manager too. Why would it want to install any mir components?

wallpaper changer script for MATE

Just wanted to share this. I like to change my desktop wallpaper automatically. I tried Variety for a while, but it made my system unstable (it caused my desktop to freeze regularly.) On top of that, Variety feels like overkill - I just wanted the core functionality of regularly changing the backgro...

thanks that worked perfectly. :D My installation is actually native MATE with cinnamon installed on top, the solution with mate-terminal worked on either.

Creating menu launcher or desktop shortcut for command line

I have a backup task involving two removable drives that I want to run every now and then on demand: rsync -h --progress --stats -r -t --modify-window=1 -l -D --delete-after --update /media/drive1 /media/drive2 In a terminal, this works just fine. As a convenience, I would like to run this command w...

Menu/search selection lost when moving mouse over submenus

This happens quite a bit. I want to launch a program using the menu but don't remember the subfolder. So I click on menu, then start typing the name of the program, and several programs appear on the right. Then I move the mouse over, and as it goes over a submenu, the search is forgotten, and repla...

Re: folder.jpg support in Caja?

My bad.. I checked again and realized that the version of cover thumbnailer I first tested was not the latest. I had installed cover-thumbnailer_0.8_all.deb, not cover-thumbnailer_0.8.3_src.tar.gz. cover-thumbnailer_0.8.3_src.tar.gz works with caja (not sure if that's because I installed naut...

folder.jpg support in Caja?

I use Mint 18.2 MATE and by and large am fairly happy with it. One thing though I'm really missing is support for folder.jpg's. Like many people, I make my file collections easier to manage (and prettier :) ) by putting a folder.jpg into each subfolder. Other file managers will show a preview of tha...

Re: Application-level firewall / Douane

Thanks, I didn't know about firejail. I installed it, and it works (I installed 0.9.46~rc1 from the official website, the mint package version didn't work for me). So I'm happy my problem is solved, but I'd still like to have a dedicated application level firewall. ;) Sandboxing an entire applicatio...

Application-level firewall / Douane

One of the perennial feature requests for Linux distros is that for an application-level firewall, preferentially one with good usability (first time a program connects to the internet, you're asked whether you want to allow it access.) The traditional response to that is that you don't need this fu...

Re: Logitech G19 Keyboard [solved]

sudo aclocal this produces an error for me: aclocal: error: 'configure.ac' is required There is no configure.ac file in my ~/Python-UInput.
