Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

One of the first things I would recommend is uninstalling Abode Flash player. It is a security risk. YouTube and alot of other websites are now using HTML5. Read about Linux and their philosophy, including books. Universities usually have good books on Linux and GNU/Linux. If you are not a student o...

Re: What Windows software can you not do without?

For those who liked Winamp, there is Sayonara available thru removed.

P.S. It has some bugs.
You would be better to use a Music Player from the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager.

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

Hi Steve,

There are good people and tips here on Linux Mint Forums.
Be extra careful when using random internet sites.

Keep it simple... and think about what tip or solution you use to solve
your problem.

Re: How to install with manual partitioning

Thanks xenopeek for the excellent tutorial on partitioning.
I think it is a good idea to have a home partition.
I have read that the recommended size for the Swap partition is twice
the RAM.

Re: Can't set OGG quality in Sound Juicer

Thanks xenopeek for the info on Wine.
EAC uses freedb to search for metadata on audio CD's.
Can you see any security risk with that?

Re: Can't set OGG quality in Sound Juicer

By the way. I like Exaile as a music player. The reason I like it is that it is simple to use. I like it because I like to keep things simple and I only use it for playing music from my Hard drive. It is not perfect, some of the plug-ins don't work in the Software Manager version. But it is a great ...

Re: Can't set OGG quality in Sound Juicer

Thanks for your suggestions phd21 but I think I will it will be hard to find a program in Linux that is as good as Exact Audio Copy (EAC) Some people say that using Wine is a security risk. If it was that bad it would it be in the Software Manager? EAC is the only program I have thru Wine. I thought...

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

I have been using Linux Mint for 2 weeks. Previously I dual booted with Windows 7. My advice from a newbie: 1/ Only get your programs from the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager. 2/ Be careful about what information you use from the internet or forums. Alot of it is just rubbish and someti...

Re: Can't set OGG quality in Sound Juicer

I tried using RubyRipper but I could'nt get it to rip to Flac. I use Exact Audio Player (EAC) thru Wine. Use version 0.99 EAC v 0.99 works well thru Wine EAC has successfully ripped everyone of my CD's to Flac I would rather use a Linux CD ripper, but EAC is the best one I have used. http://www.exac...
