Re: Mac related questions

Sorry, typed El Capitan but I'm on Sierra, and the terminal link is under the Utilities drop down. Look around, it's gotta be there somewhere. Odd about sudo apt-add-repository ppa:rodsmith/refind as it works on mine. It's rated to take 16GB: https://support.apple.com/kb/SP576?viewlocale=en_US&local...

Re: Mac related questions

Have OS10 El Capitan, Mint 18.1 Cinnamon, Lubuntu 16.1 and Manjaro installed in partitions on my 2009 iMac with original hardware but RAM bumped up to 16GB. Everything works fine. I installed Refind and it works well for booting into any/all of these, plus Recovery. To install Refind in Mint, type t...

Re: Mac related questions

Not under the Apple menu, under the Utilities menu.

Looks like the link you posted didn't copy when I quoted it. I installed the Ubuntu version of Firefox (as directed in that link) and now the search function works as it should. Thanks for posting the link.

Re: Firefox has lost the search function in latest upgrade

Known issue - if you use Mint 18 (you missed to give the least system specs). Known solution.
Worked like a charm. Thanks!

Re: Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon not so good as it should be?

I think that the developers of Linux Mint 18 should have waited with developing Linux Mint 18 before Ubuntu would have been updated to 16.04.1. In that case Linux Mint 18 has been released to early due to the faulty 16.04 codebase of Ubuntu. It is not for nothing that the 16.04.1 update of Ubuntu h...

The right click still works in El Cap, at least on my 'vintage' iMac. Just tried it again this morning to make sure after the last update to 10.11.6.

Re: [solved?]Dual-boot OSX/LM 18 on MacPro 5,1-rEFInd,GRUB or both?

You mean the way downloaded programs are restricted? For anything downloaded outside the Apple Store I just 'right' click it, click Open, it then gives you the warning message but allows you to open it. Just remember to right click the first time. After that you just select it normally and it opens ...

Disabled SIP in recovery mode, rebooted, then tried various options to no avail. Decided rEFInd works fine so went back to my original configuration and reenabled SIP. Thanks for the input. If I run across anything groundbreaking I'll let you know. ;-)

Re: [solved?]Dual-boot OSX/LM 18 on MacPro 5,1-rEFInd,GRUB or both?

Refind works just fine when installed from Linux so I don't need any changes there. I was hoping that disabling SIP might allow grub to see OS X. If it does then I could simply uninstall refind. Might disable it and see if I can get this to work: sudo gedit /etc/grub.d/40_custom #!/bin/sh exec tail ...

Thanks for the info. I'll disable SIP and see what happens. ;-)

Re: [solved?]Dual-boot OSX/LM 18 on MacPro 5,1-rEFInd,GRUB or both?

Haven't tried to disable SIP yet, is there a risk in that? Noticed lately (for no apparent reason) the grub menu comes up when booting/rebooting, but (of course) only has Linux selections. Have to exit to get the Refind menu, guess I need to reinstall it. If I could get OS10 on the grub menu I'd uni...

Re: [solved?]Dual-boot OSX/LM 18 on MacPro 5,1-rEFInd,GRUB or both?

Been running several distros of Linux on my 2009 iMac core 2 duo for about 8 months. A clean install of the latest Mint 18 Cinnamon is working great, along with Xubuntu 16.04. Have also tried to get Grub2 to work with El Cap to no avail so for me, Refind works best. It's been no problem to install i...
