Re: WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

Thanks everyone. I use a laptop without a disc drive; hence the memory stick. If I download direct to my hard drive will I lose Win7 and everything associated with it? And do I have to open a separate partition for Mint? And if this is feasible for me, sorry, I will need some instructions. Again... ...

Re: WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

Well as you may have guessed by my silence, I'm not having much luck downloading Mint using Torents. Universal USB Downloader wouldn't work at all. Rufus didn't fair much better. I got download times ranging from of over1000 DAYS... to 45 minutes to download to my memory stick. It's been running now...

Re: WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

Okay. OS Windows systems solved (I hope) and would like to try again with Mint OS. Last time I used something called USB Universal Installer and put Mint onto a memory stick so I could run it along side Windows. Can I do something like that again using Torrents? I'm not exactly sure what Torrents ar...

Re: WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

Still working on my Win7 start up issues. But wanting to proceed with a Mint Torrent Download, can I do this to a memory stick on a different computer and then use it on the problem child: my Lenova ThinkPad?

Might it possibly solve my start up issues?

Thank you...

Re: WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

As always, I am overwhelmed and gratified by the kindness afforded me by the members of the forum. I will get more information posted as soon as possible. Unfortunately my Lenova ThinkPad 11e crashed last night and I am struggling to re-boot it. On top of that the wifi is so weak today, I’m having a...

WIFI Problem Fixed Yet?

Some time ago, maybe a year ago, I tried Mint OS. Could never get the WIFI to work. I tried several other distributors and the results were always the same. I spent months trying to figure out the problem with the help of many kind folks on the forums. Someone finally said it was a problem that the ...

Re: Change my password?

Sorry for being misleading. Yes it was my password to the Forum I needed to change. I don't have Mint OS installed yet.
Thank you guys, I did change my password. Now if only I can get Mint to work for me. I have tried before and could never access WIFI.
Thanks again,
Bry

Re: Where are my favorite programs?

Okay, thank you guys for looking, but nothing in the way of change. So goodbye Mint, hello Bill Gates...
I didn’t ever think I would be happy to see that “flying Windows logo” again, but truthfully, it’s like coming home after a rainy camping trip.
Thanks again...

Re: Where are my favorite programs?

Thanks guys. I’ve had the same issues with LibreOffice in Win7 also. No spell check, etc. Never got it to perform straight out of the box. Where Open Office was so easy. The touchpad issue is really bad. About every three or four clicks, the Menu opens up. It's almost to the point that the computer ...

See someone else on the forum is having problems with Libre Office.

Have disabled Jave in Liber Office. Didn't make a difference.

Thanks, Bry

Re: Spellchecking in LibreOffice 5 doesn't work

Mine doesn't work either. And not the thesaurus. Has anyone had luck with Open Office on Mint. It seems to work right out of the box.

Re: Where are my favorite programs?

When I search for “adobe flash” in Software manager, nothing happens. Nothing for “shockwave flash” either. I don’t know how to add packages: “ythes-en-us” or “libmythes-1.2-0” I tried Chromium… but tried for half-an-hour to come up with an acceptable password for the nerds at Goggle. To hell with t...

Re: Where are my favorite programs?

Okay: I downloaded DXM (Xtreme) Download Manager. I read that you have to turn it on before opening the Opera Browser or add it to the start menu. I tried to add it to the start menu but it opens on the desktop not in a tool bar which I found troublesome so I open it manually before opening the brow...

Where are my favorite programs?

Ok. Having some real issues with Mint Sarah 18 newbie set-up. Libre Office sucks. Spell check doesn’t work and theres no thesaurus. Has anyone had luck downloading and running Open Office? I’m a writer and need not one, but several good thesaurus programs. Ones that work without copying and pasting ...

Re: No WIFI, like others

Hey Jeremy: Been fooling with this for a couple of days and everything works fine. I've upgraded using the Update Manager and started downloading a couple of programs I need. There's a learning curve here, but that's ok. Just want to thank you again for getting me up and running. I know you put time...

Re: No WIFI, like others

Hey Jeremy... Good News... for a change. I'm connected. Got my Mint/Google page and was able to check my email. Seems to be running a bit slow, but hopefully that is a local issue.

Thank you so much for this. Let me play with it for a bit and I'll get back to you.

Regards,
Bry

Re: No WIFI, like others

Tried to post the results for “locate wl.ko” but got this from the forum: Your message contains 350509 characters. The maximum number of allowed characters is 60000. I tried typing in the second command, into a separate terminal, but when I hit “enter” the terminal closed with no results displayed. ...
