Re: Linux Mint Debian Edition 3

Is there a procedure to switch distros from LMDE2 Cinnamon to Debian [Stretch] Cinnamon? Hello. This may be difficult, because of break risks with removing specific mint repos and packages. I had tried to convert a LMDE 2 Mate to a pure Debian with no success. You should do a clean Debian Stretch i...

Re: After 2nd shutdown will not load desktop

You may try via the terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment-extras
Then you will have to select Mate at the mdm login screen.

But 512 MB RAM is very few. You should upgrade your ram.

Re: [SOLVED] Opera web browser

Hello, Opera 12.16 is an old version. It should not be used because of potential security threats. The Debian Jessie (LMDE2 base) libdbus package looks too old now for latest Opera versions. Unless LMDE3 comes quickly, it means you'll be stuck to Opera 50 for a while. Did you try Vivaldi ? It would ...

Re: Is it the end for LMDE?

LMDE is not dead. LMDE2 is supported until 2020. And from what I read, LMDE3 is almost finished.

Re: Installing MATE on LMDE2 Cinnamon

Thanks! I didn't know that two DE's can't exist well on the same system.
Well, you can give it a try (for the worst and the better). But you must be conscious that, sometimes, there may be conflicts between software, notifications daemons and configuration files. Well, this can be fixed, though.

Re: Installing MATE on LMDE2 Cinnamon

For a full mate experience, you can install: "mate-desktop-environment-extras"

But catweazel is right. Installing two different desktops side-to-side is never a good idea. You'd better test LMDE2 Mate with a live iso.

Re: Linux Mint Debian Edition 3

I'm sorry if my words were a little bit "agressive". I understand what you feel. I was really hoping to see LMDE3 release a few times after Stretch release. And I still check potential news regularly. But now we know that we should not have to wait very long. I switched from LMDE2 to Debian a year a...

Re: Linux Mint Debian Edition 3

I would still have liked to have seen LMDE 3 released in what I consider a time appropriate implementation, but that ship has sailed. Yeah, patience is required. We've been more and more focused on LMDE3 since Stretch was released more than 6 months ago. But LMDE2 is still supported. I ended up mov...

Re: What's the correct Flash plugin for Firefox?

Well, with LMDE2, I'm used to remove mintflashplugin.

I prefer using flashplayer-chromium (from dmo), coupled with browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash (from backports).

This way, flash is working both with Chromium (and chromium-based browsers) and Firefox.

Re: Skype not supported on LMDE 2 ?

Well, I don't know what's going wrong.

I'm using 8.11.0.4 with Debian Stretch without problems.

Maybe you could give a try with Ghetto Skype then:

LMDE2 is based on Debian Jessie. Nevermind, Skype should work.

What Skype version did you install ?

Re: Is it the end for LMDE?

Hello,

To my mind, one of the main interests of LMDE2 is the possibility or receiving the last desktop (Mate or Cinnamon) releases (like Neon with Plasma) . For instance LMDE2 runs with Mate 1.18 whereas Debian Stretch is stuck with Mate 1.16.

Re: Linux Mint Debian Edition 3

Don't be too sad. LMDE2 still allows you to get last Mate/Cinnamon desktops updates. For me, this would be quite enough. With my Debian Stretch, I'll stay stuck to Mate 1.16. I'm a little bit jealous, guys... ;) Seriously, I admit that it's a quite long time to wait between Stretch release and LMDE3...

Re: When is Linux Mint Stretch/Betsy out?

To my mind, LMDE2 is a good mix between Debian stability/security and last Mate/Cinnamon updates. Good choice if you really need/want last desktop updates (like Neon does with Plasma for example). There may be better distros if you really always want last released apps, kernels etc. Some rolling dis...
