PSA: For those still with expired signature in Google Earth repo, here's a fix

Yesterday the signing key for Google's various repositories expired. It was fixed for Chrome, but seemingly not for Google Earth. You can fix this, with the following steps. Note: A regular "sudo apt update" will not fix this. You need to open Software Sources GUI > Maintenance and click 'Fix merge ...

Re: Linux Mint Appreciation Thread. Because it is the best OS on the planet!

I felt so sorry for Clem when I read his latest blog that I went and became a patron, not a lot but a regular contribution each month - better than the erratic contributions that I've done in the past (when I remember). The mint devs work for us and they need to earn a living. That would certainly ...

Re: Roll back from alpha to stable build

I did file a bug report, but then I fixed it by apt-pinning the PPA so I closed the issue, so I don't waste the developers' time. https://github.com/linuxmint/alpha-testing/issues/1 Oh I didn't mean for that, I know that's broken (actually fixed in mintsystem but that one doesn't build on the PPA b...

Re: Roll back from alpha to stable build

(since downgrading mintsources doesn't seem to fix it) : A bug report regarding mintsources on github with the details of what went wrong would be useful then. After all you did install the alpha build to help with the testing. I did file a bug report, but then I fixed it by apt-pinning the PPA so ...

How to fix VirtualBox 6.0 theme

VirtualBox 6.0 doesn't like dark themes, so text is light grey on white, making it unreadable. To fix this without butchering our other Qt5 applications theme, create a file in /usr/local/bin/ call it "VirtualBox" without quotations, and put this inside: QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=fusion /usr/bin/VirtualBox ...

That's part of the Window borders, that's the topmost option in your screenshot that you need to change if you want to modify that.
There are no colour options in the topmost screenshot.

The solution is to wait a bit or restart cinnamon.

I run Mint 18.3 cinnamon on a Thinkpad T510i. Works well 99% of the time! Even gaming on it is pretty ok, well, except for games made after 2006... :P (was just playing Rayman 1 in Dosbox)

Re: Mint-Y-Dark theme for ULauncher

I updated the theme. It now looks more like Mint-Y-Dark instead of using weird colours from "Minty" cinnamon theme. https://i.imgur.com/ugz83cQ.gif I made a backup of the older version in the repo. If you have installed it previously (why would you lol), do a "git pull" in the theme's directory to u...

Mint-Y-Dark theme for ULauncher

I made a theme for ULauncher based on Mint-Y-Dark. It's not perfect. I edited some random Arc-Dark theme for ULauncher that I found. It looks good except for the "selected text". If you want it: https://github.com/pizzadude/ulauncher-mint-y-dark-theme Installation instructions for the theme are in t...

Re: fixing Linux Mint 18.3 for Meltdown and Spectre

Browser patches only fix the problem on the browser, so a "bad guy" can't exploit the weakness through your browser. But you'd still be vulnerable through other apps. At least that's the way I understand it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. You're correct, but it depends on how the application was ...

I'm sick of FUD and misinformation regarding Linux Mint

Every time I go on /r/linux and there's a thread about Linux Mint it will get dismissed by many users because of "security problems" or "frankendebian" or all these other inaccurate or outdated information. I've been using Linux since 2011 and I keep going back to Mint. I'm tired of correcting peopl...
