Re: Acer laptop improper boot
Thank you for responding. Since my original post, I have made progress, and reached a tentative solution. Using a different (functional) computer, I have found that the right-click menu I mentioned is a standard feature of Mint- I just never had reason to encounter it previously. Using the Fn and F6...

Acer laptop improper boot
Not sure if this is the right category... but here goes. Acer Aspire E1-731-4699 Laptop, dual booting Windows 7 and Mint Mate 19.2. All working fine until recently. End of last January, the display died, so I replaced it, all working well until a couple of days ago, when there was no on-screen displ...

Re: Installing appimage(solved)
I make menu shortcuts to all my AppImages including right-click context menu. This is very easy to do. Some AppImages will do it for you when you first run them, but I choose to do it manually. Again, thanks. Just edited my previous post because I forgot to include <install> in the command line.

Re: Installing appimage
Thanks for posting. My intent was to run this app from the gui as well as to have access to it via a right-click context menu from my dozens of files written using an older version of this program. Just got the answer- after doing the properties>permission>make executable steps (which I had already ...

Installing appimage(solved)
Running Mint Mate 19.2. Just introduced to the appimage format, which allows running a program without installing it. The app I need is MuseScore 3.4.2. I've downloaded it and done the properties>permissions>make executable steps, but this does not provide full functionality or allow easy integratio...

Re: Flatpak
"I have no use for Flatpak, I have removed it from my main Mint system." If it's good enough for you, it works for me. Thanks.

Re: Flatpak
Thanks for the responses. @BenTrabetere- I was blindsided by Flatpak. I assumed that the Musescore3 file downloaded by Flatpak was from the developer. I absolutely plan to get the applmage file directly from Musescore once I get this mess cleaned up. @pbear- Your expertise is familiar to me, and I r...

Re: Flatpak
It's a long story. I've been using an app Musescore2 which is a musical notation app, for years, originally in Win7 and now in Mint. Starting in January (in Mint), I was seeing a pop-up whenever I opened the program, offering the newest version of that app. Eventually, I clicked the link, assuming i...

Re: Flatpak
Thank you. While I was pondering, it hit me that the app in question was running from the Docs folder and was never actually installed. Just went back and deleted the unwanted folders (phew) this has been to date a real can of worms. As for Flatpak, is there a good reason to keep it? Update- The unw...

Re: Flatpak
Thanks for posting. What I'm looking for is to remove the specific problematic program first, and, if this performance was any indication, I can do without help from Flatpak in the future.

Flatpak (solved)
Running Mint Mate 19.2. Recently realized that a program that I downloaded was sourced through Flatpak- but the program is incomplete and shows some odd behavior. I have been running an older version of this app and was repeatedly shown a pop-up offering a newer version. After several times seeing t...

Re: Adobe Flash update
Thank you, Karl. As long as it works, that's good enough for me. As mentioned, it's likely that if the update hadn't completed, there would still be that dire-looking warning on the NWS site.

Re: Adobe Flash update
Started over- ran sudo apt-get update as the usual first step. Then, as advised by karlchen, sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer . Then restarted Firefox, after which the warning on the NWS site re out-of-date Flash no longer appears, evidence that the update is in fact installed. But- a sear...

Re: Adobe Flash update
OK, so my name should be changed to dumkopf :? I thought I followed every step- am I reading the Terminal output correctly, that the new version was installed? And, if so, did the use of the FF page, "download", then replace the new with the old? What would be the outcome if I had quit aft...

Re: Adobe Flash update (solved)
OK. Second try at summing up the essence of this thread: How to get Flash 32.0.0.314 for Firefox as soon as possible: Open a terminal window. Execute the command: sudo apt-get update to make sure we have got the most recent list of available software (updates). Execute the command: sudo apt-get ins...
