Re: Be gentle with me

I want to chime in too that I have received nothing but kindness in my exchanges here. Re "the new york stock exchange", I believe the London Stock Exchange did a lot of evaluation a few years ago and they chose Windows. Alan Unless anyone can find something newer than 2011, they tried Windows and d...

Re: WPA2 is no longer safe ? [issue is already fixed on all Mint versions]

So far I haven't be able to find info on if video game system are getting patched. There is this where someone asks Nintendo if there systems will be patched. But I can't find anything else. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/social/questions/detail/qid/70607/~/nintendo-devices-and-the-kra...

Re: WPA2 is no longer safe ? [issue is already fixed on all Mint versions]

What about game systems? There are other things that might never get a patch. Refrigerators for example. Too bad my laptop is outdated and might not get a patch. I don't think my router is affected, at least Netgear says it's not, if I'm reading the site right. WNR2000v5. https://kb.netgear.com/0000...

Re: My First Kernel Update

I wouldn't recommend 4.5 as it would be manually installed and have to be manually updated and I think 4.5 is unsupported already. If everything works in 4.4.0-?, it is best to stick with 4.4.0-? as it is LTS from Ubuntu. I wouldn't even bother with the 4.8.0-? kernels as they are unsupported and t...

Re: My First Kernel Update

If you stay within the same kernel series (in this case, series 4.4) you will generally be safe. By the way, I'm assuming since your update manager is showing an update for kernel 4.4.0-97 that you are using an older 4.4 version. Is that right? System Info says: 4.4.0-21-generic I think we are tryi...

My First Kernel Update {SOLVED}

I have never done this before and I'm worried after looking at the various warnings and cautions on kernels, but I guess it must be done. I am running 18.2 Cinnamon 64-bit and I have three level four updates: Linux kernel 4.4.0-97.120, Linux libc-dev 4.4.0-97.120, and xorg-server 2:1.18.4-0ubuntu0.6...

Re: Does Chromium = Chrome?

What is confusing me is that it says codecs, but it says it's a security update and talks about address bar spoofing. If it's just codecs for a browser I don't have I won't download it. If it's a security update for Chrome I'll download it. So it's a security update for Chromium?

I have a level 2 update for Chromium Which update precisely does Update Manager offer for installation? Re: Update Manager Updates Browsers.... Right?

Correct, but Chrome is an exception: that particular .deb file not only installs the browser Google Chrome, but also adds the software source for Google Chrome to your sources list. So that you'll also get future updates for Chrome by means of Update Manager. :) That's what thought, thanks. @Jat: j...

Update Manager Updates Browsers.... Right? {Solved}

About>Firefox says I'm running 48.0, but Mozilla says the latest is 48.0.2, so why isn't it showing up in my updates? Chrome is behind too and I thought downloading added stuff to Linux that lets it update.

Mint 18 Doesn't Shutdown.... Sometimes

It doesn't happen too often, but a few days ago, tried to shutdown the system and it only made it as far as a black screen with an underline cursor. I could type, but nothing else. A day, or two, later the system made it to a black screen with an arrow cursor. Can someone of low skill (me) fix this?
