Re: Can't find why laptop HP 6720s is terribly slow?

No explanation to this dichotomy. There is an explanation. The linux distro sitting on the live system is not the distro that gets installed. The two are similar but not the same. The live media is tuned to work on the widest possible range of hardware so it stands to reason that, while in most cas...

2) ...did i mentioned that you are hijacking a different person's thread?
The flippant answer to the OP is that laptop is "too old".
Yet, it boots from the latest live USB.

No explanation to this dichotomy.

It appears from Googling I have done this slow boot is a problem with 19.
The problem isn't Mint 19 per se. It's this:

Re: Can't find why laptop HP 6720s is terribly slow?

No promises - but it deserves a try. Well, it's preferable to my suggestion :) Perhaps you can explain to me why the live USB works well with video=SVIDEO-1:d but yet the permanent install does not. Which kernel is on the live USB of 19 xfce? Noone seems to be able to answer why the live USB actual...

Re: difference between live USB and installed Linux Mint

Well, the kernel option is in place, so that's not it. You didn't give us the systemd-analyze output (you included only the blame part) so it's not clear how long the kernel actually hangs, but your inxi output shows that you didn't install any updates, so maybe try that first, that might just fix ...

installing to USB flash drive

I am able to boot using live USB of Linux Mint 19 xfce 32-bit using boot parameter video=SVIDEO-1:d I proceeded to install to a 128 GB SanDIsk USB flash drive. (hard drive is broken and I do not want to spend the money on a ZIF hard drive which is rare) I edited /etc/default/grub per https://askubun...

Re: modesetting driver

I found the solution by searching on the errors that were showing during the boot. Lots of drm_kms_helper errors. The search lead me to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1685442 add video=SVIDEO-1:d to the boot options was what was needed ! This laptop itself doesn't even have a S...

[Solved] only 1024x768

I bought a used HP Compaq 2710p laptop. It has 2 GB RAM. https://www.cnet.com/products/hp-compaq-2710p/specs/ I damaged it somehow so it no longer boots from the hard drive. It has an odd hard drive interface with ZIF ribbon cable so I don't have another one to try. Anyway, I created a bootable USB ...

Re: M18 / FireFox 48 - Crazy URL Right-Click - Workaround

Thank you.

Your solution worked for me.

The problem only happens after updating everything using Update Manager.

I don't remember which version of Firefox is included with the ISO.

I now need figure how what happened to all the search engines.
