Re: Lifespan of HDD
IN answer to the OPs question as he did not ask anything about backing up. Here are a couple factors to check on a drive that will give you better odds of how much life. Granted its not a 100% guarantee as some drives just fail and have no warning. I have found over the decades that their are a coup...

Re: Brain-dead move of the day
ROFLMAO, that sort of stuff happens to the best of us and shows reasons for backups. Glad you were able stop it in time and did not have to take time to get the backups.

Re: How to Clone Mint OS to a New Drive
You can do it with clonezilla. If you do it as a full sector by sector clone youll need do nothing else. If you do it the faster way the only thing youll need modify is fstab file in etc to reconize the UID changes to what partitions are where. Further no clue why anyone saying clonezilla difficult ...

Re: Problem while shutting down
You could check the /var/log kern.log and see if it gives a reason. Or in updater try kernel 5.8 and see if you have the same issue.

Re: strange kernel install issue EFI issue maybe? (solved)
Thanks MrEen, you were correct. I done it several times in past where ive kept the boot on this os. I must of done something incorrectly this last time. Or maybe its the boot order on the EFI goofing it up as their separate drives. I'll have to look into it. I knew it had be something stupid that wo...

Re: strange kernel install issue EFI issue maybe?
OH yeah I do have the beta on another install, but I never installed the boot for that one. I left it on this OS, but maybe it went over their anyways and I manually did not do it right. Good point I am going go check that right now.

If I run sudo update-grup It does show up like its going to work, but i reboot and it does not show up. Has anyone ever ran in...

Re: Destructive updates
I installed the 5.8 kernel, but RealTek adapter was again knocked out. In fact I had previously written a script in "Startup Applications" to load the r8125 driver at startup, but this did not restore function with this or the prior kernel versions, either at system startup or when run ma...

Re: Destructive updates
With that modern of hardware I would try changing to kernel 5.8 instead. I have had issues with 5.4 myself and reverting back as you know is easy if it breaks anything as its all under the software updater. I actually on ryzen gen 3 have had issues with 5.4, but nothing recently with mint updates so...

Re: Is support for floppy drives gone?
Sure the floppy is readable. It is possible with worn out drives to have a drive write a floppy that wont be read by another floppy drive as its a little off, but the offset works for that drive in the old computer. Try a floppy you know in the past has worked on that specific drive to confirm.

Re: I want to run my linux mint on nvidia
How are you trying to install the drivers? Generally you just goto the driver app and select the appropriate one.
Send us your hard specs and software etc with the command in terminal "inxi -Fxxxrz" without the quotes.

Looks to me like you might have a memory leak. Open up task manager and keep eye on memory usage and when mouse starts t o lock up and release check it to see where memory is and sort to see whats using the most memory.

Re: Did your battery life got worse since last kernel update?
Are you by chance using zoom with tons of people in the conference? As that eats up battery like crazy if that has changed due to circumstances.
