Re: Mint 19 doesn't show other computers on the network

I don't feel any resolution to the problem has been presented. Many users likely have only one machine. Thus never experienced the joy of seeing your other machines, file sharing etc on the same subnet. If you feel that this has been resolved... please direct me to where to look. Personally I feel t...

Re: Mint 19 and Samba File Sharing Changes

The last time I tried your FIX I spent the next 3 hours rebuilding my system as it ate it... I booted from DVD and mounted my hard disk, and fixed the comment I added, but to no avail... Cinnamon Desktop was purged, and I was quite upset at the outcome. Let me say... I'm not brand new to this Unix/L...

Mint 19 doesn't show other computers on the network

I thought perhaps it was something I did outside of Mint. But since putting a fresh load of Mint 19 on two systems they no longer see other systems on the default file browser. Before I could see each of my Mint machines and of course if I had login & passwd coule get access to files etc. Very nice....

phpMyAdmin depreciation notice

depreciation_notice.png I have several servers all running the same complement of software. And in this case perhaps the only difference is that the OS started out as Mint 17. It has since been updated and upgraded through the use of apt update, apt upgrade. However this annoying problem persists. ...

remove openoffice reinstall libreoffice

About 6 months ago I choose to remove Libreoffice and install Open office. This was a process... things needed to be changed. However after using Open office for the past 6 months, I've learned that Libreoffice has a better interface and looks better on screen. So I wanted to return. Removed Open of...

Re: mysql does not seem to function and has no socket

In order to have a socket, MySQL needs to be started. The dameon for it has not been started. The command: service mysql start must be given. You can verify that it is running my typing: top then press i. You should see mysqld.

Now you won't have the missing socket issue.

Re: WordPress - Error establishing a database connection

I did most things right... but forgot to make sure I had more than just login password for the database. I killed it and reloaded and it's working fine. After turning over every stone... this was the one.

Re: Btrfs vs ZFS mirroring / self healing 2 4TB drives

As always... Grateful to those who provide guidance or suggestions with experience on what they speak. I am clearly out of my realm. I'm unlikely to install a VM . Had all that on Solaris, and it's not in the plan. I don't mind messing around with REAL hardware. Because at the end, I'll likely have ...

Re: Btrfs vs ZFS mirroring / self healing 2 4TB drives

Mint Install disk refused to put the boot loader in a FAT32 partition. ??? I just read a bunch of things on boot partitions... will rework the drives later. One of the questions that has risen is with ONLY two drives in the system, how to I create the RAID1 for the filesystem... do I mount the addit...

Re: Btrfs vs ZFS mirroring / self healing 2 4TB drives

I had several unsuccessful attempts to load Mint 18.2 onto a Btrfs partition . Did not provide a swap or boot partition. That may have been the issue. I prepared the 2nd drive with the same partitions, but have not loaded Mint onto them. Perhaps I should remove the FAT32 and make it Btrfs as well. I...

Re: Btrfs vs ZFS mirroring / self healing 2 4TB drives

Thanks for the additional tips... I knew about reboot... problem is I loose access to the system until I go upstairs and initialize x11vnc again. So reboots come once a day unless I get really anxious to see what's happening. There is a lot to learn about Btrfs, and I suppose reading the manual migh...

Added to fstab UUID=78c9e951-b9ef-4d1b-a789-ca9fe4941699 /ark btrfs defaults, ssd, noatime 0 2 I don't reboot very often as it means going up two flights of stairs to restart x11vnc. I should fix that so it loads itself. Would like to copy bootable contents of: UUID=415bfd24-064f-44f4-94c0-733296d35fd...

Installed the drives, and followed directions... got this far... do I have to mount it? Re: Btrfs vs ZFS mirroring / self healing 2 4TB drives

My thanks to all who replied. Unfortunately I think ZFS is out of my league on this project. My machine is an ASUS High End Motherboard with AMD 8350 $ 32GB of RAM. However it is NOT ECC as the motherboard would not support it. I would have to buy a server to get that grade of equipment. And somewhe...

Btrfs vs ZFS mirroring / self healing 2 4TB drives

I'm running Nextcloud, and want DATA INTEGRITY for myself and those who use it. Backups are exceedingly slow when you get 500 GB of storage let alone down the road when others catch on to what they can do. Bought two Toshiba 4TB drives w 64MB of cache... and have spent the last two + days reviewing ...
