Supermicro H8DG6/i(-F)

Just bought this 32core system, and it seems to lock up momentarily at random... like an interrupt issue. Have successfully loaded Mint 19.2 and performed update, and upgrades (with one hitch) and have set up VMware 15 to provide multiple instances of webserver. Working fine... however slower than I...

Re: Partitioning SSD & 1TSpin Drive

Well... the purpose of the partitions is that the SSD's speed will help files in areas mostly read only, and the standard hard drive is used in areas where there is a lot more writing going on. I have settled on the following partitions for most of my systems. HD_configuration_Mints.jpg So far so go...

Re: Partitioning SSD & 1TSpin Drive

...post by AndyMH » Thu Mar 14, 2019 6:03 am Agree completely with catweazel, keep it simple. Separate / and /home partitions on the SSD, looks like you've got a legacy install since there is an extended partition in there. I'd stay with legacy, but make both / and /home primary partitions (legacy ...

Partitioning SSD & 1TSpin Drive

I've been attempting to get a useful partitioning scheme for SSD & 1T 7200RPM HD. Ideally it seems that if you want GRUB on the SSD it has to be sda. I've gotten both to work, but of late had to resort to a GRUB boot-repair-disk in order to fix booting issues. sda1 EXT4 /boot 500 MiB 34.4MiB used sd...

Re: Userspace ?

I installed LAMP server using sudo apt-get install lamp-server^ -y after I updated, and upgraded my installation. Then used the command in Storagecraft to load PHPmyAdmin... all works great... nice bit of work. The dissappointment is the lengthy 25 - 30 second delay followed by a 5 second boot... Th...

Partitions & Sizes

I am playing with setup of SSD & Spinning disk for my desktops. Using 120G SSD and 1T hard drive. I've set up the various partitions a few times, and have yet to determine the space needs. The drives are larger than needed so it probably doesn't matter except to learn what is required. sda is SSD Sc...

Userspace ?

I'm trying to set up an 120G SSD & Spinning drive for Mint 19 desktop. I finished this and it booted quickly, however at some point after "sudo apt update" and "sudo apt upgrade" followed by installation of my normal desktop software which includes a LAMP server.. my boot now takes over 30 seconds. ...

Re: Mint 19 doesn't show other computers on the network

I don't feel any resolution to the problem has been presented. Many users likely have only one machine. Thus never experienced the joy of seeing your other machines, file sharing etc on the same subnet. If you feel that this has been resolved... please direct me to where to look. Personally I feel t...

Re: Mint 19 and Samba File Sharing Changes

The last time I tried your FIX I spent the next 3 hours rebuilding my system as it ate it... I booted from DVD and mounted my hard disk, and fixed the comment I added, but to no avail... Cinnamon Desktop was purged, and I was quite upset at the outcome. Let me say... I'm not brand new to this Unix/L...

Mint 19 doesn't show other computers on the network

I thought perhaps it was something I did outside of Mint. But since putting a fresh load of Mint 19 on two systems they no longer see other systems on the default file browser. Before I could see each of my Mint machines and of course if I had login & passwd coule get access to files etc. Very nice....

Re: mysql does not seem to function and has no socket

In order to have a socket, MySQL needs to be started. The dameon for it has not been started. The command: service mysql start must be given. You can verify that it is running my typing: top then press i. You should see mysqld.

Now you won't have the missing socket issue.

Re: WordPress - Error establishing a database connection

I did most things right... but forgot to make sure I had more than just login password for the database. I killed it and reloaded and it's working fine. After turning over every stone... this was the one.
